I dont think you could expect Kevin to change that much more either, his voice is his voice. Mu gripe isnt so much that he's not doing enough to sound different, but whether I can enjoy his sound at all. I think my answer is yes, in smaller doses.

I can certainly understand that. My comment was mainly aimed at those who say it "sounds too much like Candlebox." I just wanted to point out that he is really trying a lot of new things vocally in order to make this a new band. As a producer I've got to give props to that because it is hard to do, especially for someone who has been singing for that long.

I do hope that if the music is kickass enough that his vocals will grow on you (and others). I can name several bands I love who don't have vocalists that I really get into. I think people miss a lot of good music just because the vocalist doesn't immediately strike their fancy.

Damn, guys, all I hear is pretty decent rock-n-roll, much of old school in it for sure, but really, what I do hate the most is "I hear acdc in it", "I hear led zep in there", "where is Live in it?"

It is fucking AWFUL that all we do is compare. As stated previously, comparison IS inevitable, but why the hell make music, that can sound like a heap of other bands, no matter how great and relevant they are?

Take a look aside. With all the bullshit being poured on Ed, what music is HIS current style compared to? Live. Only. Ain't it better?

Anyway. Yea, I am nodding me head each time I hear the new samples... But you know... Once again, Martin's voice does not do it for me at all. I bet with a darker, harder voice with more angst I would definitely say these tunes are crawling up there to be my faves... For now.. Very good quality rock. Nothing more. I need to get into the texts soon.

On the merch side... I have not ordered anything, but I did make myself a good quali TGF badge a couple of months ago and I am already wearing it on my bag along with a TDTH Live badge on my jacket... Live is higher for sure

hmm... I guess Im on the minority here. I do like the guitar riffa but just not crazy about the voice. It does remind me something like Zepplin but I guess I need to here more and adjust to it. Man, just thinking of some of those guitar parts with Ed's voice would just sound so much more alike what we have wanted for so long Classic Live! Oh well, time to move on I guess. Im still anxious to hear the final product though!

Beacon, you've got it 100% correct. I too am on the fence as far as Kevin's voice goes, but like you, I'm also VERY excited to hear and see what the boys can deliver. Chad, Pat and CAG are literally etched into my soul, so I'm on board with whatever they're doing, for the rest of my life.....end of story.

In Kevin's defense, most of the people here (including me) are the 1%ers so to speak, the die hard, life long Live fans, so it's going to be extremely difficult to accept the music without the accompanying voice.

The thing here is this.

1. If da Ek's music is compared to Live it's inevitable obviously because it is after all Ed singing. It's his voice and his voice was the voice of Live.

2. If the actual music sounds like Live (and even the old rocking Live) why the hell did he break the band (yes maybe speculation, but I'm sure it was mostly Ed doing that lead to it)

I may be sidetracking here but no I guess I don't think it's better. He leaves Live to go and make music that sounds like Live. Pfff. But I'm talking only of the stuff that will sound like Live. Props to him for the original stuff.

The Gracious Few's sound would not have picked up in 2001. It definitely has a early 80's hair band vibe. The early 2000's were Linkin Park, Limp Biscuit heavy.

You keep saying this but it doesn't make it so. Everyone else hears Zeppelin and ACDC and you hear 80's hair metal. Nothing about those samples sounds like Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, Poison. None whatsoever. Its pretty much the only style of rock in the last 40 years that I can't hear in the samples.

The vocals get extremely angsty in some of these clips, but no its not a low voice. That is not everyone's preference, and it is certainly not Ed's vocal style at all. It is also one of the reasons Candlebox didn't catch on as much, which is a damn shame.

I agree that comparing it to other things is a little obnoxious, but its the only frame of reference most people have when listening to music.

I think I'm most impressed with how the band is handling rhythm, there are a lot of interesting twists and turns throughout, for example the verse of Believe 2.0. Interesting rhythms are generally a sign of a band that is inspired to make some awesome and different music because its difficult to pull off and largely unappreciated by most listeners. If I can be so bold, its a pretty good sign that Gracey was heavily involved in writing many of the songs.

His drumming really punches in well with Martin's lyrical rhythm especially in Believe 2.0's chorus. I only wish the bass was kicked up a notch or two, I'm having a bit of trouble picking it out on a few tracks but I'm not playing the sound file through good equipment so the problem could be on my end. Of course these samples aren't the true finished and polished products and that minor complaint will probably be addressed then (or with me having the CD and playing it through a better medium then computer speakers).

You got that right! Loving the 'twists and turns' myself...good words to describe it. I've listened to the clips all morning, and like I had hoped, this stuff is getting addicting!

His beat on the Raimus track is insanely cool, it is probably the most impressive drum riff I've heard him play.

The bass is going to be a little low in rough mixes in general, once its mastered I imagine we'll hear a ton of Pat. I like what I am hearing though. You can even tell they are all in different places in the mixing process.

Listening again I really don't get where people aren't hearing that this is grunge with a mild classic rock twist. This stuff is grunge to the core. The only tracks in this sampler that aren't significantly grunge influenced are Appetite and the Raimus track we had heard previously. The other tracks have far more to do with grunge than classic rock.

Ok, so I took a few more listens to the samples and am starting to warm up a bit more. I really like the new Believe song so I am excited to hear that final product. Maybe the first single? Still getting used to the new voice but I think overall its going to be a good rock album just as they said it would be. It still sucks though that Ed wouldnt let them play like this behind him. Damn what an incredicle album that could have been. Anyway, still anxious to hear more! I guess its about time we hear some more news from Ed too since Chad dropped these samples. They seem to be going back and forth lately so I cant wait to hear even more new music!

btw.....pat, if you are reading this(LOL) We are still waitng for the ultimate bombshell: NEW CITY!!!!!
