Ed covering 'Sex on Fire' Options

I am usually a big fan of Live's covers .. I think for the most part they're better than all the originals. I'm not a fan of Imagine because I just dont like the song to begin with regardless of who is doing it. But this is one of the extreme few I just dont like.

Hhmmm.....whilst I think this cover is a little wierd (like most of his media on his website), I reckon (other than the start which I think he sings too high) it is a pretty good demonstration of Ed's vocal capabilities because the chorus sounds better than I think Kings does....especially taking into account not many singers would sound too flash recording at home infront of a mirror with amateurish equipment..would like to hear a studio version.

I agree with regard to most of live's covers being better than the original. The song I hate most is Ed's free forever version that I downloaded from his website its the worst performance I think he's ever done it sounds like he's trying to sing the song as quiet and high as possible which is a shame because for the most part he's such a talented performer.

I think he has the chorus down fine in this, its the verses he's really struggling with.

I still think if Live wanted to make it back on the scene they should have done a covers album. The song writing turned to shit in the latter years and they wern't ever gonna make an impact based on that. But their covers were still amazing and creative. Taking a song that is already a proven hit and improving it could have been so great for them. What I love about their covers unlike so many other bands is that they made a concious effort for them to sound different. Some bands seem to think that covering a song means you need to make it sound as close to the original as possible .. im glad live never did that.

That was diabolically awful. Is it just me, or has Ed's voice gone to fuck? I know what he's trying to do in this song, but he sounds like he's recovering from a bout of laryngitis and his vocal chords are still a bit too tight.

So we're not allowed to genuinely dislike it we must just be hating on Ed? So if the people who dislike it are blindly hating Ed, then people who like it must be blindly in love with him. I thought it sucked .. too many "ooo!"'s. His voice just didn't sound strong ... the song itself even by KOL I think sucks.

It's fine to hate the song. If you're saying Ed sucks because you dislike something he did in front of a camera to post on youtube you're just hating. You are well aware by now I do not blindly follow Ed. I'm not a customer of shit on a stick.

Oh man, ummm. Comparing it to the Ed of old... oh man, it's just a little bit ridiculous. Vocally, in terms of the new vocal style new Ed, it's fairly decent. The start of the choruses make me laugh though because there's this tiny little bobbing, colourful head doing a big O face which is just, again, ridiculous. And overall, compared to old Ed's voice... Secret Samadhi Ed.... there's no comparison.

I don't like that he does stuff like this. I'm sure it's more fun for him, being in constant contact with fans and doing covers and stuff, but it seems like he's embracing his own fall from grace. He knows he's not as big or good as he was, so he's increasing communication to make up for it or something. A slight whiff of desperation or something.

Like, even though TGF came from the band band, the fact that we've not had much from them makes them seem all the more professional adn they've maintained that aura about them. It's The Gracious Few, it's gonna be a real album. With Ed... I almost feel like it'll be getting a mates self-made album or something.

It's just. I dunno. Sad. But on its own merits, not a bad cover. But I still don't like how it always feels like he's going to say "oh Lord" any minute. And that's not a God Squad bashing thing or whatever; it's the weight of his voice sometimes and the tone, just really feels like he's gonna say stuff about Lord and Child etc. Just... I don't know. Where did Secret Samadhi Ed go? I really don't think it's the same man any more. He's gone. Really feels like two seperate people. In my mind, mentally, watching an old video, I don't think that Ed exists in this modern world. Repeating myself, but it feels and seems, really, LITERALLY, they're actually two seperate people.
