Holy! This break up thing may not be that bad... Patrick just sent out an email to FOL member with a link to the Homespun store with 2 MP3s from the SS recording sessions, Mall Rat and Photograph!!!!

It was the winter of 1996 when Chad Gracey, Chad Taylor, Ed Kowalczyk, and I gathered in snow covered Pennsylvania to record demos for the record that would become Secret Samadhi. We set up shop in Columbia, PA, a small river town directly between York and Lancaster. The Churchbox Studio was a fantastic “renovated” Lutheran church that used the pulpit section as the drum riser and the old pew sections were now home to amplifiers and mics. Jay Sorentino was the co-owner and engineer at the studio. He also made sure that the original pipe organ still worked and we were amazed how it sounded on the version of “Ghost” from that session. We cranked out about 15 songs in three days without a stumble. Our magical music machine was still running smooth. “Mall Rat” and “Photograph” are both taken from these demos recorded in PA. When I listen to them again for the first time in 14 years I can remember the smell of the old wood in the recording room and the shape and feel of the neck on the Fender bass that I played.

As our 2009 Holiday Gift we have allowed all FOL Homespun Members access to these two never before released demo recordings. To downlaod these tracks just login to your Friends Of Live Homespun account and download the songs. You can access your account by going to the Live Official Online Store and click on the "Manage Your Account" link at the bottom of the store page. If you do not have your Homespun password you can have a one time login e-mailed to you. Once logged in you can update your password to whatever you like. You can change you password by clicking on the "Edit" link in your account.

I am liking Mall Rat, it is definitely heavier than Photograph, which sounds more like a TC outtake than a SS outtake.

I'm a little miffed. I let my membership expire because the band broke up. I seriously didn't expect any gift this year, especially unreleased music when they were in their prime. I wish that information would have been shared right when the "haitus" stuff was being thrown around.

Strange how it takes the band to break up before probably the most significant holiday gift is released ... anyone have any idea as to why that would be? Before were they wanting to release things like this but were unable to until this point? Or is it pure coincidence?
