QUOTE(Senghe @ Dec 22 2009, 6:25 pm) *

Having read The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, I'm pretty sure a lot of Christian fundamentalists would call C S Lewis a Satan worshipping heathen trying to poison children's minds rather than a great religious thinker.

Most of the conservative Christians I know love CS Lewis. His later writings became increasingly conservative, so they interpret his earlier writings as conservative as well. Fascinating, really.

someone who believes in a talking snake in a big garden and that the earth is 5000 years old is not a great thinker. Theologians impress the impressionable because they are clearly very intelligent and articulate but it still boils down to believeing in fairies and goblins. its so fucking stupid. look youve gotten me all upset, im in the mood for a crusade angry.gif

There are definitely Christians who don't believe either of those things. Not all Christians are conservative fundies (which is a very common portrayal).

Yep. Almost as stupid as believing that nothing, one day billions and billions of years ago, all of the sudden turned into something. And something else. And something else. And something else.

Who believes in that? Most Atheists and agnostics make no claim to know how the universe started. We find it pretty damn arrogant to claim that you own that knowledge.

We? Are you a spokesman for the Most Atheists and Agnostics corporation, or MAAG Inc.?

Love John Safran ... he's pretty fair with the amount of flak he throws around at every religion, but these are on topic about athisim

Which in turn is almost as stupid as believing some omnipotent being who just popped into existence from nowhere created everything in 6 days. But I'm not starting an argument on what or who is the stupidest as I've got better things to do than get into a circular argument.

Merry Christmas, even though this and most other Christian holidays were stolen wholesale from the Pagans who had the choice of either converting or dying by the sword.

I gather you believe in talking snakes, then?

I have decided to follow the philosophy of a (fictitious) Indian guru who said:
"The universe stands on an elephant, which stands on a turtle, which stands on another elephant standing on a turtle". When a skeptic asked him what was under the second turtle, he replied "After that, it's elephants all the way down".

Now this is some art and commerce that I can get behind from the singer and band that kind of took over where Ed left off for me. Brandon Boyd and Hurley target pollution.
