I mean, Ed can go out and sing lightning crashes and the song would continue to impact people just like it always has. Chad, Chad, and Pat can't go out and do that. I think that's the real rub because they lose part of their identity and it's really unfair.

I guess the question is, who really makes the band special then? If the lead singer can hire a very talented back-up band and then perform the same songs and 99% of people don't know the difference, who brought the real "sound" to the band?

Yet, we all know part of the reason the first 4 albums sound the way they do is because those other members of the band were giving REAL input. Lately they've just been showing up and recording whatever Ed told them for the paycheck. So it really has been "Ed's Sound" lately.

Of course, if Ed, for his solo album, essentially records an album that sounds like the fans have been demanding for a decade now ("give us Throwing Copper 2, dammit!") and 99% of the general public doesn't even realize that Chad, Chad, and Pat are gone because this new album by EddieK sure sounds like what they remember Live sounding like, what does that say...?

Yeah that's sorda my point. But I don't think you can assume we would have the great music we did on on the first albums without all of them collaborating together. Not considering any new music, it is very possible for Ed to go out there actually still be LIVE because like most lead singers you associate the sound of the band with the voice and whatever contributions the rest of them made musically can be reproduced by talented musicians because they're just essentially copying what was already done. I just thinks the idea that it could even happen is totally shitty.

When I think about all the lead singers... I mean what is the point of going solo for these guys? Is it really just to have total control? That if you want that verse, that note, the word in a song you're gonna get it and not have to argue or fight for it? Sure there are those that go into a different direction, but how many really do? True, Ed has as evidenced by the last few albums singing about ponies and rivers all day long in falsetto, but should he return to making music in the signature LIVE sound, that would be the ultimate deception and stab in the back to his former friends and fans.
