I agree that some of it sounds like old Ed, I miss the intelligent sounding Ed.

I agree, although my recollection was that around SS it was not too different from today, only with Indian references (like Chad's) instead of Christianity. IIRC the earliest stuff put out by the band had Christians overtones or undertones (e.g. Pain Lies on the Riverside).
But maybe Chad has become Ed circa 97 - without Adi-da (which is a good thing) and but more savvy about the pitfalls of spiritual leaders.

Ed started to become truly incomprehensible by about 99 after reading Ken Wilbur. I miss the comprehensible Ed.

... then you might reach the conclusion as I have that Chad Taylor may very well be the spiritual and creative backbone of Live. Perhaps he is the Christmas tree and Ed is just an ornament, if I may use a timely metaphor.

This is to take nothing away from Gracey and Patrick either - I think those guys come together to make some rock'in music with Taylor and Ed as a foursome. I'm just saying, is all...

Where does this analogy go now? Are Gracey & Pat "just ornaments" too? Are they the branches? The roots? The little pot of water than the tree sits in to keep it from drying out?

There is no doubt that Live's sound was the result of four (4) people working together, and that Chad T's contribution was formidable, but this sounds like another way to negate the contribution of a member you don't like anymore in favour of someone you obviously admire.

The Believe guitar riff was found in a collection of demos on Chad Taylor's FTP server. Does it really SOUND like something Ed would write?

Maybe. Or perhaps Live's entire career was the most convoluted and drawn out publicity stunt in the history of man for Adam Kowalczyk's forthcoming album.

If you look at many of the blog and tour diary entries that Chad has made over the last few years, it is very eye opening that perhaps Ed should not be credited with all of the enlightened, awakened, deep, spiritual reflections and expressions in Live's work.

I have maintained for years, after reading some of Chad's spiritual musings in these writings, that Chad should be recognized for a contribution to all of that. If I could dig up some of those older writings and post them here, I will. Chad runs deep, but Ed runs around with his head shaved and the mala beeds around his neck.

AND, if you factor into that equation, the fact that many of the best riffs, hooks, and rocking producing on some of Live's brightest spots in their catalogue are certifyably directly attributed to Chad Taylor, then you might reach the conclusion as I have that Chad Taylor may very well be the spiritual and creative backbone of Live. Perhaps he is the Christmas tree and Ed is just an ornament, if I may use a timely metaphor.

The arrangement and production of Walk The Line was heralded as one of Live's fine accomplishments, especially when Walk The Line became a phenomenon with Daughtry performing it on American Idol and everyone taking notice of its greatness and ultimately attributing it to Live. Chad Taylor came up with that arrangement and produced it. Like I Do? That was Chad's. Believe? Chad Taylor, Gracey and Patrick. Lakini's Juice? Need I go on?

This is to take nothing away from Gracey and Patrick either - I think those guys come together to make some rock'in music with Taylor and Ed as a foursome. I'm just saying, is all...

I have not heard a single demo you are talking about. But my first thought hen the band went on hiatus was that Believe would really be TGF's tune.

And adding on the sound of it... you never know really.

This is so likely that we might as well call it fact, tbh imho.

Live never actually exsisted.
They were just a figment of your imagination....that was the twist all along that has taken 18 years to discover.
Pain Lies on the riverside...it's all in your head

seriously tho, isnt it funny how with throwing copper you cant wait to show your live-ignorant friends all the tracks so they can be enlightened on what true rockn roll is, but come full circle and you're struggling to think of a track on SFBM that won't embarrass you?? i think only where do we go from here would suffice there. and it isnt even my fav from the album. why did i flush the effexor down the toilet for fuck sake

I think anything from V onwards is exactly like that. There are so many clunking incongruities chucked in the middle of songs that it's hard to sort the wheat from the chaff in the embarrassing yourself by playing them in company stakes. Luckily, I've never met anybody else in my day to day life who knows who the fuck Live are so I don't have chance to contemplate humiliating myself. lol.gif

I can take or leave Mental Jewellery. I love/loved TC, SS and TDTH with a deep burning passion. But the rest of Live's career has been a downhill rollercoaster ride of a few uphill bumps of elation, but mostly freefalls into guilty pleasure, buttock clenching shame and way too much of the benefit of the doubt doled out.
