I feel like if they released Selling The Drama or I Alone on this album, people would still dub them as "pop." I feel just because Ed doesn't sing as raspy anymore, and there are no songs like LJ or LID people are judging this far worse than it actually is. I'm sorry, but TDTH did not "rock," except in mayyybe two or three songs.

If this album came out right after TDTH, and there was never a BoP or V, people would like this a lot better. I think you all are expecting this to suck, so a lot of you are quick to judge.

Amen to that!

Quick to judge? We all have the whole album by now and have listened to it repeatedly.

It's just not that strong nor outstanding. Its so-so and blah because it presents redundant themes.

Quick to judge in the sense that you've heard BoP and V, and now you have it in your head it's not going to be good. I'm not saying everybody will love it. It's certainly a different sound from SS or even certain songs from TC. But, at the same time, if there was no V or BoP, and this album came right after TDTH, I doubt the amount of negativity would be the same.

Sure...and if they released all their albums in another order everyone would be like: oh look how much they've grown over the years.

SFBM aint no bad album..... maybe it's more poppy than we're used to. I for one like it.

Then again, (dont know who said it, so forgive me) if you look at all their albums, aside from TC none of them got more than 3 rocksongs...

Just my 2 cents...

when i heard the dolphin's cry for the first time I had to stop what I was doing. It was that good. It was the single reason I got into this band. Nothing on this album will stop anyone in their tracks. They are nice songs and i like them, but it doesnt go further than that

Tool is one of the most creative and imaginative bands to ever play. When listening to their music you can find something new with every song that you never noticed before. They are one the most talented bands out there today. What you said about them only proves the point that you have no idea what you are talking about.

Creative =/= good.

I think no one here can really define what "pop" is (and don't you come with "popular"!!).
In that aspect all you can say is, that this album is damn nice and sweet. Everything is sweet, from the lyrics to the polished sounding instruments. With musical complexity they had never killed anyone, but in the past it sounded a bit more raw and perhaps honest at least. And more powerful, listen to "Where Fishes Go"...After that put "All I Need" on....The verses are wiggle.gif (in fact that smiley has more substance) Even "They Stood Up For Love", which chorus I've never really liked, is not that sweet....It's as if it is made completely for his children. And all songs, that have references to bad ass sex after all, are in their poetry so harmless it's like naive sexual education.
So sorry, for me that is more pop than rock...

I like the album though, don't know why... lol.gif

i thin its true that the new CD is not as heavy as Live has been in the past, but I don't know what it is that people are thinking of when they call it "pop". Its still rock, its just not HARD rock. I can live with that.

If you expect Live to be as heavy as Tool or Godsmack, then you're retarded. If you think those are great bands, then it is not a shock that you don't like Live's later material.

For me personally, I was like 17 years old when Throwing Copper came out. My musical tastes have changed over the years, and I think Live's must have changed in the same way, becaue the music still appeals to me.

Finally, if they had not changed at all, and put out 7 albums that sounded exactly the same, people would probably complain about that too. Bottom line is, this is the way Live is now, they have been for a number of years, and you should either accept it or find something else to listen to.

I have never been a fan of those people on message boards who think everything a band does is great, but this board is so full of negative people who dislike the band that I can't figure out how it is that said people consider coming to this board and posting a valuable use of their time.

That's a great post.

See, i started to notice with BOP and on what I've heard of SFBM.... the songs are so polished, like you said. Perfect. Neat. Nice and sweet, again, like you said.

That is not the Live i know and loved for 10 freaking years!

Yeah, yeah. They want to fit into radio. Again. NOT the band I loved. Wasnt it just a few years ago they were 'pissin' in the mainstream?' I'd love to know what happened to that Ed.

This pop stuff... and yes, it's pop. It's just like the mindless unoriginal Nickelback/3 Doors Down stuff that clogs up the airwaves. Anyway, this pop stuff is just what the radio audience wants. And if some of you like it, well yay for you. But I'll go back and take my MJ - TC - SS - TDTH and hell even V - over any song on the last 2 cds thank you.

And back off the person that said they were excited for the Tool and Godsmack Cds. I really dont think they were comparing them to Live, they just said they were just eager for a freakin' rockin album. (as am I, dude!) The original question was 'didn't Live used to be a rock band?' And the answer is yes, they used to be!

I suppose if you consider Nickelback and 3 Doors Down (two bands I don't like) "pop", I suppose the newer Live stuff fits that mold. To me, pop, is Madonna, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, that kind of stuff. Vey different from Live

Anyone "eager for a rockin' album" shouldn't be looking to a Live CD unless they have had their head up their ass for the last 8 years or so.

I've said it at least a dozen times on this board...if you don't like the new material, go listen to something else. But its ridiculous to keep pining away from the "old" Live when they have so obviously changed (as has the musical landscape in general) and you know what to expect now. Like any band, they are doing what they want to do and are hoping that people like it. So like it or get over it.

Anybody who doesn't like the album, please do the following immediately:

1. Pop in TC/SS/TDTH/MJ/BOP, whichever album is your favorite.

2. Chill back.

3. Remember why you love Live.

4. Order tickets to one of their upcoming tour dates.

5. Have a kick ass time watching the guys in concert.

6. Repeat steps 1-5 as many times as you like.

Some of you act like you have to listen to the new music. You don't! And you can still listen to their older stuff! Their the same band. Their older stuff still rocks even if their newer stuff doesn't.

They're not selling out and making radio-friendly music. In order for something to be radio-friendly, radio stations actually have to play it.

No need to hate one of your favorite bands because their latest album wasn't what YOU wanted to hear.

Fine. "Pop Rock" is that better? Whatever, to me Nickelback are so bad I hold them on the same level as the other list you made. IMO, of course.

And as I've said many a times on this board, thats a very hard thing to do when you've loved a band for 12 years of your life. I'm trying to "get over it' as you so nicely said (and touche, I've stung others with those exact words) but you know, sometimes easier said than done. 12 years is a very long time to love anything

I'm glad its easy for people to love this new stuff. Like I said, Yay for you! Just know that there are some of us that have been here since the begining and it's hard for us. This stuff is the complete opposite of what we fell in love with.

I am still a huge huge fan! S.S. has been in my car for the past year. I intend to go to their concerts. I intend to rock out and comepletely get insane happy. I was NOT expecting this new album to be a rocker. I am just disapointed...maybe they will release a bunch a B-sides that will really rock....nevertheless...I feel sad because I feel like this is the end of an era.
