i agree hey, im still not comfortable slamming ed as the villain in all of this, as i said before im waiting on his detailed response or until all the facts come into light. And i think it was a bit low of CT to post that letter via the fol newsletter, where ed has contact with many of his fans. I dont think the letter was detailed enough to really expose ed as a bad guy. i take no sides

I think that was the whole point of sending it out over FOL. Chad was saying that the guys own the band name Live, so it doesn't appear that Ed will be using FOL to promote his own stuff anymore. I'm not 100 percent sure how this all works, but I'm pretty sure Ed and Chad would NOT be using the same e-mail list. In a way it seemed like Chad was taking back what was rightfully his.

Personally, I was kind of annoyed that I was getting e-mails from FOL about Ed's gigs, since Ed's gigs are not the band Live. If Chad starts using the e-mail system every week to promote TGF that would be annoying too.

I think that's why they are twittering and telling everyone where the web page and facebook, myspace stuff is so there is a clean separation of bands

QUOTE(Gertjan @ Dec 2 2009, 11:47 am) *

Maybe the usual lead singer bonus was $50.000, maybe just nobody offered a bonus before. We just don't know. Without a single fact, this whole discussion is rather ridiculous.

I don't know if this quote thing will work or not, but I agree with this Gertjan person. Throughout the fall we've heard little to nothing from Ed, and plenty from Gracey. Whatever. I just threw in The Distance To Here for old time's sake. Run To the Water just played. I like Live again.

i just came to check the site to see what was new with Live since i pretty much gave up on them after birds of pray. figured see if there is any tour or album. i usually just check here for news every so often still. this is quite a shocker to find this on the front page. im not sure who is still here from when i was still posting but once Live was my favorite band. i mean i grew up in lancaster and Live was huge when i was a teenager, so yeah. SS still ranks as one of my 10 favorite albums of all time. can't say im surprised by ed's douchier just looking at the writing credits from music by Live lyrics by Ed to all the nonsense of Ed wrote all these songs by himself except these....

i always hoped Live would turn things around. maybe ed will realize no one cares about just him and it was the band. and his old school buddies for what?? maybe one day he will realize how awesome it is to still have friends from your school days around.

I totally take sides laugh.gif

I really feel like there was enough arrogance on Ed's part to tear the band apart. If they others had more input, I'm sure we wouldn't have SFBM right now. If the rest of the band liked the album, they would model TGF after that sound. I can recall Ed claiming that SFBM offered some of his most favourite songs.

@Gertjan, I also don't know a band where the drummer or bassist earn more than the singer. Guitarists sometimes, but it is very rare. Ed is a very talented singer... when he wants to be.

People change and grow in different ways. How many close 20 year plus friendships do each of you currently have? I don't have many at all.

Live beat the odds for all these years, but a fracture was bound to occur eventually.

look at the old Live albums they all say "music by live, lyrics by ed" the last few albums seemed to pull away from this idea with breaking down the credits for each song.

That is why we have what we do today, you can count on it.

Chad T even said in the web-blog that his creative juices were neutered and wasn't sure if he could get them back. When you're not allowed to practice your art and skill, you get stale. TGF is a rebirth for those 3, and whatever we get after this in my mind is only good.

Ed didn't let them help write and contribute.......this obviously let to the shit recording that is SFBM....I only half heartedly like 3 songs on there because there is a rock element to the songs. I give all kudos for Ed's singing talent but I loathe him for killing the band's collective strength and spirit. Flame away if you must, I do take sides too.

A lot, if not most, bands do the breakdown of credits for the obvious reason of divvying up royalty payments fairly.

Crock element, you mean.

Songs From Black Mountain should never have happened. For that matter neither should V have happened. BOP was OK, but if the band had still been on the right track there would've been a MUCH, MUCH better version of that album in some way or another.

Also, even though I understand you giving him his due in re: to his singing, the vocals on SFBM SUCKED. The guy is, and has been for a while now, too stuck on pop. He is not Justin Timberlake and he never will be... no matter how hard he might try. It's too bad he doesn't realize this.

Lol, crock element, good one.

I agree with what you say totally. BOP was billed as a rocking album, I think someplace from laying down the tracks and the overproduction by Lord Alge, the record came out more subdued than planned. I heard interviews on radio in Philly with Ed and Chad saying it will be heavy.

Ed, thinking his future is doing pop-rock is way so far away from what got him famous.

Why bite the hand that feeds you. I think Chad G's lounge act comment on twitter is dead on.

He's telling it like it is and in his anger with what became of their sound and direction shouldn't be bashed, it's freaking true. I'd be doing the same thing.

Oh well, it is what it is

Live came together as kids. They became brothers. And who fights more bitterly than family?
