I'm thinking about entering. I have an idea of an alternative version of a song and a difficult choice to make if I'm to enter with another one aswell. There are alot of songs that are fun to play but not all of them are easy to record smile.gif *my voice sounds different in my head than it does when it's recorded*

And I've heard the cover/one of the covers that you'll be entering with ... the way your voice sounded reminded me of that part of one of your covers from last year where you said something like "I went mad today" in russian ... I like it! rockin.gif

I'm definitely entering... I just have to figure out what'll work with only drums and a singer/guitarist. We've got 3 song ideas, so we'll probably record all 3 and submit the best 2 or something. Maybe I'll post the b-side or outtakes on my personal website and share. smile.gif

For you people that are entering, what're you using to record your music? Mic's and setups would be nice. I'm just curious as to what everyone's got. If you want to wait and answer that until after you've submitted, that'd be cool too... I'm just curious. smile.gif

Did you hear my quickly done cover of "Get Ready" I used this black computer microphone I bought 2 bucks a few years back and the "recorder.exe" program in the Start Menu > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder ...

Pretty nice huh?? wink.gif What could I do to make a better recording? Would a better computer microphone help at all?

Absolutely! That's a great general mic for what you're doing with recordings. Anything more than that and you're gonna need to step it up a bit.

For sound recording, you'll need a multitrack audio program like Cool Edit Pro, which is now called Adobe Audition. I have used that program for many years and it serves pretty much every purpose I could ask for when it comes to music recording. Matter of fact, it's the program I'm going to use to record our Live songs.

... it was also the program my last band used to record TBD for the Live cover contest 2 years ago. smile.gif

If you have any other questions, let me know! I'm happy to help.

~Bob

I've gone through several stages as my interest in recording music at home grew larger.
I'm preatty satisfied with what I have right now, and being a student sort of limits any possibility of buying better stuff smile.gif

Soundcard: M-Audio Delta 1010LT. I guess it's a little bit too much as it has 10 inputs and 10 outputs smile.gif But it was a christmas present so I can't complain ... If anyone is looking for a solid card for a homerecording studio, M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 is preatty much the same card - only less connections. It's often recommended in magazines as a great card for low-budget homerecording studios.

Microphone: ADK A51e. I used to have a Shure microphone (can't remember the name though) and it worked great (my Dolphin's Cry cover from last years competition was recorded using that). The ADK however did wonders to the acoustic guitars aswell as the vocals. The only problem is that it's a compleatly different thing to sing into a condensor microphone than into a "regular" one if your used to that smile.gif

Mixer: Behringer Eurorack UB802 mixer. Nothing fancy, and I guess you could use a mic-preamp insted if you're only going to record with a microphone - and you'd probably get a better result aswell. But I also record bass and sometimes use my line-in on my other acoustic guitar and I don't want to have to switch connections all the time smile.gif

Compressor: Behringer MDX 1600 compressor, only used to controll the in-signal so peaks doesn't occur as often (or rather: they shouldn't occur at all!). I'm guessing that knowing how to set up my mixer better would have been a smarter idea. But then again the compressor gives me more confidence that the signal won't peak. And having less to worry about when I begin to sing often results in better performance.

Software: Cubase VST (came with the soundcard). Easy enough program to use.

I guess that some peoples disappointment over the new record might have reduced their ambition to record anything, but I hope that's not the case. Then again ... last competition didn't really take-off until the last days and there were quite alot of contributions in the end - and most of them had really high standard.

I really like that cover. It's exactly the vision I have on how a cover should sound : different from the source! happy.gif

The guys just re-record the song in their own style and it really bring something new to it!
Even if I'm not into jazz, I think this jazz version of 'Turn My Head' just turns out sooooooooo good!
That's what I'd call 'experimental'.

Congratulations!
