yep im in agreement. some people's ed-hating is a little unnecessarily violent to the point of being weird. so the guy likes coffee and the good book. no one gave a shit when he was meddling in eastern religions. I also think it would suck if his kids did come across such posts. That just aint cool no.gif

Very true people don't realise how loud a voice the internet is....his 2 girls could easily see this sort of garbage on the net.

He may be a bit over the top too happy and friendly these days but gee we're being a bit too harsh if we crusify him for that aren't we?

And yes he may have had his drug problems in the past like most grunge type 90's bands did but i've seen ed speak in public and play his acoustic gig recently and if someone can do what he does and be a druggy i'd be quite surprised.

Oh and u got to love the people who still bag him out for the albums he wrote since THDH (he wrote almost all of TDTH by the way) I don't think an artist writing what they feel and believe in is called deserting their fans. Just because these albums have not been as widely accepted doesn't make it Ed's fault. Not many bands can produce the success of throwing copper more than once or twice. Just because live couldn't make every album a hit doesn't make Ed evil like it would appear from this forum. No one can stay 20 and angry forever and I'm telling you now that if a band does not evolve and every album they produced has the same theme as throwing copper I would not have kepy buying. Lets just respect musicians/artists for who they are and not place expectations of one of the most successful albums ever on every other album they release. If you don't like it move on.

ps. what was this reference to 'lack of fresh material' by chad? Is he blaming the Ed for live's reducing popularity the last 10 yrs? Is he admitting he and the others did nothing the last 10 yrs and relied solely on Ed's creativity? If they are going to take credit for live's success they can't then say that all bad is Ed's or am I missing something here??!

I've been a fan since 1990 when a buddy of mine in college let me listen to a bootleg cassette tape of this new band called LIVE. I don't even think Mental Jewelry was released yet, but I was an instant fan. When I first heard some of the leaks of Deep Enough, I was excited about V coming out, only to realize the hard driving version I had heard was replace by an entire Pro-tooled album that was so over produced I could barely recognize my favorite band. It just went downhill with few bright spots.

Was there an early, demo-version of Deep Enough that sounded different?

Yes there was. It was very guitar heavy. The V album has 2 versions and those are both different from each other, plus the original version

I don't think tha bashing is to the point violent. I think its the fans and, me included, totally frustrated and angry that they went down the path of becoming non relevant with the music selections. It's a normal emotional response after finding out what occured.

Being the band, they stood by Ed with his decisions even though they may have been not 100% ok with the direction. What he did was the final straw...., all the other things are probably none of our business.

My 2 cents

oh I would love to hear it! (if anyone here has it). How came it this 'rare' thing was not included in J.Sax's complete upload of everything a while back?

I just want Ed to say something substantial about all of this. I'm not hating the guy (yet) and still see LIVE (all 4 members) as one of my favorite bands. I do think that as much as we have given them over the years, he can give something useful for us to chew on. Him saying "it's not true" isn't going to cut it. If it is not true (and I hope it isn't), then tell us why the band is breaking up.

I think lots of us are frustrated with Ed and have been for quite some time. It's been pretty obvious that the last 5-10 years ( happy , la-la phase) has been mostly his influence. And now with this latest news that he pretty such sold them all out ( I mean, he hasn't come out and said he hasn't, right?) and the lead singer bonus BS.

As far as the drug thing goes, I don't think that's true. From what I have seen of him over the years, he likes to drink. Maybe puff a bit. That's it. The boy is just odd tongue.gif

I have to agree with you Kymra.
I don't HATE Ed. Hate is such an ugly word. I am just upset that the man behind the beautiful lyrics he writes might be ugly inside. I believe what Chad says and that is a f*cked up thing to do to long time friends.
He won't give the fans his side of the story because I believe he can't. Probably for legal reasons. I don't believe the drug thing either. That is one of the things I liked about Live, no one had to go to rehab for drugs or alcohol and they seemed like they got along with each other very well.
Yeah....I think he is just odd. When I met him at the meet and greet he really didn't say anything.... like he was just going through the motions....just signed my ticket and posed for a photo. Art from Everclear was totally opposite ... asked us our names, shook our hands. When I met Chad Taylor he was great, down to earth, joking around with my friend and I, talked about a documentary he saw on the tour bus on the way there. He was just more personable. Seems to care more about the fans. That is why I think TGF will be successful.

Ed used to be way more personable back in the day. Chad has always been great with the fans. Patrick too.
