QUOTE(SJN1279 @ Dec 2 2009, 10:18 am) *

So the guys own the name Live and Ed doesn't? How is that possible? Why is Ed allowed to play all the songs in concert then? To me the whole thing is a mess.

Finding a lead singer to replace Ed will be extremely difficult. Like him or not, Ed has one of the strongest stage presences and voices around. Also, if Live gets some young buck as their new singer, they will look like 3 Grandpa's rocking out on stage with him.

Ed with a new band isn't a bargain either, and could run into the same problems. The boys may need each other down the line. Bridges can always be rebuilt.

He's allowed to play the songs in concert regardless .. im allowed to play the songs in concert if I want .. it's only the actual recordings and song writing credits which can be tied to specific people.

As for using the name Live in his name ... who knows. It'd be strange if it did go to court, I wonder if Ed could say the name isn't of the band but saying that his website is now "live and online" and such .. whether there is some legal loophole.

I agree that no matter what the other 3 guys do it shouldn't be under the name of Live because that was and always will be just the 4 of them .. everything else should be seen as a new band even if they do live songs in shows.

It's very complex. Again, I cite the Pink Floyd example.

Anyone remember the Roger Waters lawsuits against Mason, Wright and Gilmour?

How long did that stuff drag out? 20 years if I remember correctly. Ugly, Ugly, Ugly!!! sad.gif

QUOTE(ridley @ Dec 1 2009, 6:08 pm) *

What do people make of the "EKLive" thing?

It's almost as if Ed was pre-empting something like this happening and wanting to get in first by forever associating his name with the band (and vice-versa) as a strategic move for his solo career. He even signed "EK Live" on the LPs I got signed earlier this year...

Interesting point. It makes sense now, thinking of that. CT's recent publishings (FOL letter and blog) clearly state that the other 3 make up "Live" and that Ed is no longer apart of it. So perhaps there is a dispute regarding the name Live.

I don't think that's necessary. I don't think Ed needs "Live" at the end of his name, with his talent (minus his ego) he can do very well just as Ed, Eddie K, Ed Kowalczyk, etc. And frankly, even if the other 3 replaced him with a new lead singer and toured as Live, we all know it's not Live and shouldn't be called Live either.

That will just be embarrassing. I personally think they should lay Live to rest unless they can settle their differences and head in the diverging directions they currently are.

Where do I begin? 2009 has turned out to be an insane year for me. I certainly didn’t plan things to be as hectic or dramatic as what they have turned out to be but I am super excited to have the opportunity to collaborate on so many fabulous projects. Most important, we are working with incredible people who share our love and passion for the human spirit. I think I will have to do this by topic.

The begin of a new Blog bij Chad!

It's not really about the break up, more about his other carreer, films!
He talks a little about music tho, at the very end.

Last but not least, MUSIC:
That’s right friends, I’m back in the saddle again. I honestly forgot how much I loved playing rock n’ roll music. The Gracious Few has inspired a return to the passion I had for music as a young kid. The songs are incredibly fun to listen to and I love playing them. I cannot wait to share this experience with you. I’m pretty sure many of you will be very pleasantly surprised. TGF is its own sound and feel. It’s not LIVE or Candlebox. Somehow the new band instantly found its own soul and thankfully, we will be touring throughout 2010 in support of the album. I know our first shows are in early March, I hope we see you there!

The news made the Dutch papers today:

It reads 'Live continues without singer'

Well at least it made this paper. I'm too lazy to take a look at others. Or maybe I'm just too sad or too shocked sad.gif

Hmmm.....Jon P.??

This is from CT's newest blog:

QUOTE
“Barely Breathing,” is inspired by the real life friendship between ROCK STAR Chad Taylor, lead guitar player for the multi platinum band LIVE and INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGIST Doctor John P. Slovak. They met as Chad was trying to slow down his wild rocker life and start a family just as Doc was on his way towards a major mid life crisis, which would eventually involve, drugs, woman, alcohol and the police."

Coincidence?? eh.gif

Don't you understand what it say? Live goes forward without the singer.

Quit whining about how it "will never be live." I'd much prefer if they led live and took the name. They could reinvent the band. It is also terrible logic that just because live has always been the 4 guys it should be that way.

since 2002, to me Live has been fractured from their earlier bonds.

Hiatus / Split / New Band / Old Band / New singer, whatever....

I listened to all the live tunes dear to me and let me tell you, the feelings they produce cannot be changed, they are etched in my soul.

Since 1995, Live has been the soundtrack to my life. I am astonished to learn the end has arisen this way. I love Live and am truly saddened by this news.
