QUOTE(ridley @ Nov 30 2009, 5:48 pm) *

I guess this finally confirms what most of us felt from SFBM (or perhaps V) onwards: that Ed was hijacking the band. It was the "band" and their shared creative juices flowing together that connected with me in the 90's and I guess that is why I didn't connect with much of Live's later material.

Good on CT for putting the record straight, but I almost wish I hadn't heard this. I will however be making a conscious decision to divorce "early" Live from "later-day" Live in my head, as I don't believe early Live is or should be tainted by this revelation.

As far as I'm concerned, those first four albums I love so much were written by a different guy (but then again, I already thought that before hearing this news).
I was initially a bit confused by this - I read it as Ed doesn't control the catalog but does control the band publishing company eh.gif (especially given its name rolleyes.gif )

Think of publishing just like a book. A company has to print the book...or make the cd etc. then distribute it to all the vendors. Ed's company owned that part of it. However the band owns all the rights to the music and catalog.
This being said, I do believe that the band can cancel the publishing agreement and sign with another company or make their own just as Ed did.

I also agree. the first 4 albums were collectively written.
I think all the rest was Ed doing it and the guys just biting their tongue and keeping the peace.
How long does a person let themselves be abused?

This is so fucked up.What a way for a band to go.Its a shame after all the years of friendship and musicianship that it had to end the way that it has. I don't think I would be able to get into another singer fronting Live. Live is Ed, Chad, Chad and Patrick period. I like Kevin Martin's voice but he's no Ed. I could probably deal with The Gracious Few since the remaining guys are great musicians. If Ed is truly the way he has been portrayed by Chad then I am very disappointed in these turn of events. I knew in the end there would be a break up and not a hiatus. Egos ruin good things no wonder why they say that there is such a thing as Lead Singer Syndrome.20 years plus plunged down the toilet for what money.A Sad day indeed.

It took 17 posts before anyone mentioned there being two sides to every story. Geesh ! Let Ed respond before all the douche bag comments and what not. He'll have to say something, I'm sure ...

How freakin depressing! I'm sad that I'll never get to see LIVE (the way we all know them) in concert again. A LIVE concert was one of the best damn things in this world.

Kevin is not replacing ED. The GRACIOUS FEW is an entirely different band with a totally different sound than LIVE or CANDLEBOX. It really doesnt sound like either. a few people on here heard the sample earlier today...they all can attest that it was AWESOME>......

Don't need to hear the other side... It's become more and more evident over the last 5+ years that Ed is a douche and thought he was above rest of the band.

The actions of what happened with the band since 2002 are readily appeherent to me.

Secretly doing one of those power of attorney things on a music publishing thing is a shrewd cold thing to do to your lifelong friends.

Sorry, I say Gas Hed Go to Hell !!!

As a true fan of Live for 16 years, I admit that I am deeply hurt by all this. Sure, no band makes you invest in them with your heart and soul. But Live was part of my very being in a way, always has been. The lyrics/music spoke to me like no other band, and its so sad to know that some of it was just banal bullshit. Its also disheartening to think about how much potentially amazing music Live could have continued to create after TDTH if they had worked together as they had since their formation. Can you imagine that?

I was never ok with this whole "hiatus," but I swallowed it and tried to be excited by Ed's new stuff and TGF's new endeavor. But, I'm going to find it very hard to listen to Ed's positivity and laughs knowing this news, albeit he hasn't made a formal statement himself and there really are two sides to every story.

But, I have this eerie feeling that we won't get much of an answer about all of this from Ed. I guess in some way, he will have to say something. But, I've noticed that he does a great job of ignoring these types of things.

It truly is sad day in my life.

I think you'll find TDTH was almost solely written by Ed. Moreover their most famous song lighting crashes was solely written by him both the lyrics and the music.
And i'm not sure that you would say the other 3 are being abused simply because Ed is doing everything. If anything you could say the others have been having a free ride.

Having said all that though if this is all true about the 100 grand and the 'contract' then it is very disappointing to say the least. Whilst I hope there is another side to this story, for the band's sake I don't want this to turn into a slinging match either.
