Tough question, I think. I'm not trying to start a major debate here, but I noted there seems to be a lot of strong opinions on who will be the better show, or who is "right" about the hiatus, etc. So, if both were doing a show in your town on the same night, who would you get tickets to see ... shrug.gif

Easy, TGF. Not that I don't like Ed, but I am ready to hear some new rocking material.

Ed will sing the classic Live songs, TGF will most likely not. Easy choice for me.

Right now... at this very minute... it would be Ed. This is simply because he'll play a large selection of songs that I'd really love to hear live. TGF is an unknown quantity at this point, so I couldn't be sure.

How can anyone really decide? We've only heard 5 seconds of TGF.

That said, I'd go see Ed.

Exactly. I think this poll was released too early.

I'd go see TGF for sure, because I'd want to see a real rock show. Ed is just far, far too gay these days. If I want to hear the Live classics, I'll put in the CDs. I don't want to see some flamer prancing around singing them 3 octaves too high and butchering his own work from his "in the closet" days.

Plenty of Live bootlegs in my ipod to keep me happy. Don't need to see Ed performing Live songs solo w/o the band. No offense to Ed at all. I want to see some fucking rock music, not sappy happy, trippy unplugged Live songs.

I voted for Ed, and although I would love to see TGF (and I plan on it), I just think Ed is Live. It's his lyrics and his voice that made me love their music. PD, CT and CG are all way underrated, and I love them too - but Ed's talent is simply amazing.

As for all these comments that Ed doesn't rock, and sings all sappy now - what's your point ? I mean, these guys are all like 40 now. Not that 40 is old, but after awhile, it's no longer time to "rock". Look at the Rolling Stones for crying out loud. Everyday there is a joke about how old they are, still trying to rock out.

I'm a fan of Bob Seger. Like Ed, I always loved his voice and lyrics. He quit touring for a long while, then came back about two years ago and did a tour. I went and saw him, and it was almost ... sad. Here's this guy, still trying to rock like he did in the 70's and 80's, but just couldn't.

Not that Live is anywhere near as old as Seger is, but there comes a point where it's time to 'tune it down'. You know, I've heard "I Alone", for example a dozen times live. It rocked, and it was awesome. But hearing Ed's stripped down, acoustic version this summer was totally different. The song took on a whole new meaning.

I don't know. I guess I'm just "late, but not in the same way, I'm older today" (ha !), and it's okay if I don't "rock out" like I did to Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi guitar.gif

Just my $.02

martin said himself that TGF will be singing live tunes, obscure album tracks but live nontheless. Thats gotta be better than ed singing run away again. Plus TGF seem to be a real rock band, which is enough for me.

I wanted Live to take some new direction after TDTH and they did, not to my liking.
The band wants to explore harder tones, and Ed doesn't. Doesn't make him a bad guy.
Taylor, Dahlheimer and Gracey have a lot of bottled up rocking that they will unleash with Kevin Martin. The snippets from Chad T are confirming that for me so far.

I hoped to hear an album of Like I Do's and White Discussions about 5 years ago.....I didn't.

The music industry led them to the path of Adult Contemporary, which I despise.

Instead, we got Songs from Charred Mountain.....some nice tunes with some toned down rockers.

At my fist Live show, They played Gas Hed Goes West and Iris. The hairs on my arms and body stood on end from the raw powerful sound coming from the stage. I said, this is what I waited so long to hear in person.

I bode Ed and the rest the best in their endeavors. I think Ed is not Live, Live is the 4.

I choose to see TGF.

By the way, the Stones still rock, U2 still rocks....Van Halen still rocks.....they're way over 40.

I am over 40 too.

Its way too early to say since neither have put out an album of just their material yet. I expect to like TGF more but if Ed goes in an interesting direction you never know. Given that he wrote SFBM I really expect to hate it but will give it a fair shake.

I do find it funny that people bitched for years and years about how Live didn't mix up their setlist and just played classic tunes, yet Ed playing the classic tunes is somehow a rationale for seeing his show instead of TGF.

My how times change.

Bands like Tool, Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree (and countless other you could throw in here) would like to differ. How is 40 too old to Rock out? how is any age too old to express any art form?
