I've been listening to the new album for the last couple of days and I have to say I'm quite disappointed. Didn't Live used to be a rock band? All of their songs have now become Pop songs. What happened to songs like the Stage, White Discussions, Lakinis Juice, Feel The Quiet River Rage, Where Fishes Go, actual rock songs? Live seems to have lost all of it's edge.

I will always love Live but this album seems to be a big step back to me.

Just my opinion.

Jeesh.....people like you are posuers to me...these guy's have put out great misic for the better part of almost 20 years. You are indeed entitiled to your opinion but i think your opinion sucks. They have grown, evolved....times and things change, perhaps they are at different places in thier lives, I just go with the flow....i am not dissapointed at all with this new stuff....i have never been dissapointed by a live cd, EVEN 5. I am just glad they are STILL out there making music and doing what they love. This is all that matters to me. I think they are just doing great and i love the new cd. Sure, maybe you don't and that's ok. I saw them do some of the new stuff and it was great....they are the same ROCK band....they have just grown and evolved with the times. I don't see poppy in there anywhere , sorry.

I am a Live fan just as much as you. But if you think this is a ROCK record you haven't heard very much rock music. This is a straight ahead POP record.

Maybe it will grow on me but right now I'm hoping I have some good ROCK to listen to when the new Godsmack and Tool records come out.

OK, so I've listened to the album 5 or 6 times straight through and I do not hate it nor necessarily like it.

It is WAY TOO pop for my overall liking. I HATE "Show." Period. From the opening chord, I quickly skip it. I think "Sofia" is the best song on the album. I dig the bluesiness of it. It's quality. "Where Do We Go From Here?" is solid. Good guitar. "You Are Not Alone" possesses with a cool U2-like guitar verse. Not bad. "Wings" was a surprise. I like it. "Night of Nights" is different. The change in tempo catches your attention even if it's hard to take or get used to at first.

It's basically Bird of Pray...continued. This and BOP could have been a dual-disc. Nothing really rocks on this album. Nothing where I'd brag about or tell my friends to check out.

I can't really say I'm disappointed because I expected this album to be what it is. They're clearly not the band I loved not long ago.

Oh well. I know Pearl Jam, the Chili Peppers and Tool won't let me down next month.

Don't kid yourself. They are NOT the SAME rock band and this is not "rock."

PS - "Love Shines" sucks too. uhoh.gif

Actually, 'pop' is short for popular.

Live isn't exactly popular anywhere anymore. They're not pop.

LMAO.

Tool and Godsmack both suck loads of ass.

"Pop" has multiple meanings. Metallica, for instance, is popular and they're music is not "pop."

And, for the record, Tool is excellent.

What other bands do you listen to, cuz? Just curious.

Just curious.

U2 is my favorite band of all time.

I also like a Japanese band called Dir en grey, who is a band that's changed with each album. Their first effort had a pop feel. The second, prog rock. Third, hardcore punk. Fourth and fifth albums have been death metal.

Also, I like They Might Be Giants and Devo.

I respect Jeeshīs opinion. Itīs more like a relief to me. And I understand it exactly because when you listen to your favorite band for 12 years and see what they have became, it kinda desappointing. Yes, the SFBM is pop, very pop to me. Itīs not an evolution, never, but I wonīt say itīs a step back. But when you listen it for the first time itīs a deception. I do hoped it would have a little more rock songs, maybe thatīs why the deception.

But Iīll live through it. The album has good songs. Love Wings and Love Shines. Edīs voice is great, he is better then ever.. He has evolved, no doubt. And I loved the guitars.

I guess maybe we all will get used to Liveīs new sound...

Tool is one of the most creative and imaginative bands to ever play. When listening to their music you can find something new with every song that you never noticed before. They are one the most talented bands out there today. What you said about them only proves the point that you have no idea what you are talking about.

Jim - I understand your opinion and even agree with it for the most part. This is not the band I fell in love with back in the TC, SS, TDTH days. It hasn't been since the release of "V". I've found very few songs released since TDTH that have moved me in any way. Really, the only "real" rock song they've put out since TDTH has been Like I Do, IMO. After listening to the tracks from SFBM, I don't hear a single true rock track on it. I too am a bit disappointed, but then again, I really wasn't expecting much in terms of the something that resembled the old-school Live that a lot of us fell in (and now out of) love with.

I respect the band for putting out what they want to, irregardless of public opinion. Its rare to find bands like that these days. Unfortunately, what they've been putting out for the past few years isn't really my cup of tea. I'll always be a fan of Live! I'm just finding it harder and harder to follow along with the direction they're taking.

This album is Live's (read: Ed's) attempt to convey what He's been feeling since V came out. we saw a bit of it in BOP, but now he has 2 daughters, and I think the Dad effect has changed his outlook on many things... This album totally sounds like something that is trying to please his children, as opposed to his old school fans. Have you noticed that there is not a single use of profanity? It's a family record. I truly believe that this album is awesome. That's right, I love it. But their next album is going to not only be a return to form, it's going to absolutely blow us all away. Ed will start listening to the band again, and they are going to rock out like nothing we've ever seen before. possibly even conquer the world...

You know, outside of maybe 12-15 songs (most being on TC and SS), Live has not been a huge ROCK band. As Ed used to sing with alot more edge, many songs that could have been thought of as pop became rock to many people. Now that Ed has gone to a softer vocal, Live doesn't get away with being called rock. It's funny, you can almost call a song rock or pop by turning the guitars up or down, which explains why so many here are confident that in concert Live will still rock out (as the guitars will be turned up much higher). It's just funny to see people like/dislike the album because of something like this, but maybe I'm wrong.

I feel like if they released Selling The Drama or I Alone on this album, people would still dub them as "pop." I feel just because Ed doesn't sing as raspy anymore, and there are no songs like LJ or LID people are judging this far worse than it actually is. I'm sorry, but TDTH did not "rock," except in mayyybe two or three songs.

If this album came out right after TDTH, and there was never a BoP or V, people would like this a lot better. I think you all are expecting this to suck, so a lot of you are quick to judge.
