...ye imagine that! as if it were all a ploy to get record sales up - realising their race was run - releasing a Throwing Copper 15th Anniversary 2 disc edition + DVD with missing remastered and remixed tracks and throwing in outtakes for good measure and on the DVD, the missing Paradiso tracks: Shit Towne, Waitress, DAOC and White, Discussion! Followed by a TDTH 10th Anniversary and LIVE Reunion Tour! ...-dies-

whoops! forgot Iris in that list of Paradiso no shows!

QUOTE(zmanpga @ Oct 6 2009, 11:45 pm) *

until they actually tell us what happend...really whos cares??...like a soap opera on tv...there was arguments about this and that, different views, dreams, like a marriage, things hardly ever last...when it does come out...we will hear..OMG!!...I told ya so!!...WOW!!...are you kidding me???
....but really...in the end...most of us hold this band VERY HIGH on our list of favorites or we wouldnt be here posting..I respect ALL of them and look forward to hearing all they have to offer...but whatever happened..happened...its over...and like I said...I know we wont see them in 2 years or maybe ever again together...I doubt it..

It's probably because we hold the band very high on our list of favorites that we care. For a lot of bands if they imploded like this I'd go "heh that sucks", but there are very few bands, probably could count them on one hand where breaking up is one thing, sometimes its for the best, but shit slinging taints the past. This is one of them. Nick Cave has lost some of his Bad Seeds over the past few years, each of them sighting not enough creative input, similar to Live I guess, but Nick Cave still openly dedicates the songs they had a part in writing in concert to those band members and they still speak highly of him and even though they've gone their own way now, it's still ... nice, or something. It's true whatever happend has happend, but now come the pot shots after it's happend in public.

As for why the other 3 didn't stand up for themselves over the past few years ... good question ... maybe it was a physical dominance.

Ed: Ok guys, this song is gonna be about water, CG I need a nice steady safe drum beat

CG: Ed .. um, can I make one suggestion I uh

Ed: YOU MAY NOT MAKE A SUGGESTION, LEST YOU GO BACK INTO THE BASEMENT LIKE THE DOG YOU ARE! .... ok now from the top, Think of gentle Jesus ..

Perhaps the guys did stand up for themselves before but Ed threatened to leave, and they were not ready or sure if they could go on their own. And you gotta pay them bills. Like many have already said, Ed is the lead face of Live and the ticket/album seller, like it or not.
So now they finally chose to go separate ways and everything is changing. Much stress, excitement, resentment and so on will cause some to start speaking/venting out as is the case with both Chads.
And here we are just speculating, where an official explanation from all of them would have saved a lot of this drama. But I guess any publicity is good, got us all talking.

I wish...

Like I said above, never discount the nastiness of any kind of band split. I've been a part of (much smaller) bands that were only together for 4 years and man it gets ugly even then, I can't imagine 21 years!

I wonder again if Ed's acoustic shows were a big part of this split and the proverbial straw on the camel's back. You've gotta think that at those shows Ed was pocketing the money as a solo artist while the other guys do... what exactly? If that was a deliberate decision on Ed's part then it would very much explain what happened.

If we're going to have such ungraciousness, NOW is the time for The Gracious Few to take up my anagram of their name and be the Whore Fag Cuties. I won't even sue them for intellectual theft.

So you reckon it's a publicity stunt cum in joke and is actually the guys... drum roll please... 'selling the drama' for a laugh? What do you reckon Ed's reply will be if this is the case "Fuck off back into your plexiglass cage, little drummer boy!"? So far Ed has been the gracious one and not got dragged into a Twitter pissing up the wall contest.

Ed gracious!!!!!!!!! There isn't a gracious bone in his body, well, atleast regarding his three former bandmates. All things come in good time. The truth will eventually come out. He has so many people fooled. Sorry to burst the bubble but the man is and has been wearing a "mask".

I do think a lot of Chad T.'s blog post way back when was true. I think they decided to only call it a "break" because then there always exists the possibility that the band could get back together.

I think whether we'll see the band together again is based on how well each of these respective albums do.

Pretty much. I'm sure Ed's album will sell a lot more and he ultimately is the one that will decide if/when Live gets back together.

Hypothetically: What if The Gracious Few took off and their album was a lot more successful and Ed's flopped? Would Ed come running back to reform Live?

I've thought about this .. it's a possibility. But then again the initial solo shows were done in Live's down time where they were playing shows sparsely and it wasnt until later when the tour dates started stepping up. CT was more involved with his film stuff then too so the other way of looking at it is that perhaps he wasn't in a position where he wanted to be on the road as much at that time. If Ed did the shows solo then I don't see what the problem is with him being the one that gets paid ... however maybe CG or someone offered to come along and have it as a 2 man show or something and Ed refused ... so many possibilities that we just don't know, hence why one of the guys coming out of the blue making childish comments without any kind of back story just paints a bad picture on them.

I was thinking the straw the broke the camel's back could have been Believe. The fact that one of CT's demos is clearly the riff from Believe leads me to believe he had a big part in writing most, if not all the music to that song. Something tells me with this TGF attitude that CT really didn't envision the song to be called something like "Believe" ... I just got the feeling that CT was ready to rock with this thing and that Ed took it an (for lack of a better term of phrase) pussied it up.

I'm not so sure Ed's album will sell more, it all depends essentially on how each album is promoted. Ed's album thus far doesn't seem much more different than SFBM which was a flop. If TGF gets backed by a good label and gets a lot of promotion then it could really take off if the music is strong enough. There is a market right now for fans that want a return to the rock sounds of the 90's. It is a smaller market than the pop market that Ed is trying to wade into, but that may bode well for the guys.

Maybe you're right. After all the Candlebox guys are automatically bringing in their fans along, so right there the potential fan numbers are doubled.

I wouldn't say doubled, but it is a significant audience at least in America.

yeah, but still Ed agreed with the music at that point. He performed it with them, when they didnt need to do a new song. And he also agreed with the music in 'Purifier', written by Taylor, calling it a great rock song. The 'Helter Skelter' cover was also a sign of old rocking Ed. I even remembered Ed saying late 2008 the new album would be more rocking. And don't forget all the rocking songs, like Lift me Up, they brought back in the setlist.

So I really think the different view on their fiuture music isn't the whole story, as they seemed much more on one line lately than in - say - 2006.

Yeah that wasn't really my point, I got no doubt Ed was ok with it. I'm saying that CT might not have been so happy to see the music he wrote get pop lyrics/vocals thrown over them by Ed .. he may have been thinking this was the start of something new and instead ended up going "ah fuck here we go again".
