Alright I just went through the whole album song by song today, thanks to PheonixDecay.

The River- Like everyone else the ooooh baby is a little corny to me, but the song is enjoyable though light. A good single.

Mystery- I really like what they did with this song, I didn't think it could be a rock song, with the falsetto and the feel of it, and though I first was not sure what to think about the violins, I have really been impressed by it each time I have heard it in full (which is three or four times now).

Get Ready- Good song, nice change of pace, a much better Run Away kind of song. Frankly I hope it is not a single, because, it would not be a good single. It is good to know Live can still slow a song down, make it even keel, and make is sound strong.

Show- A rocker, but it really does not do alot for me. The lyrics sound pretty generic, the music is good, but just because it is the hardest song on the album doesn't make it better than the others, at least to me.

Wings- Much better song than I thought from the clip, has a kind of country feel to it especially toward the end. It shows a good range. It just feels comfortable.

Sofia- Weird back effect, that I thought would be a guitar but has become Railo, I still enjoy the funkiness of the song, Live has not done a song of this kind, ever. Maybe that's a good thing for some people. I just like the relaxed feel of the lyrics in this song, especially the last two lines of the chorus "I wanna feel ya, Sofia, Pouring down on me like rain"

Love Shines- My least favorite song on the album. This song may grow on me, but I don't like the lyrics or Ed's voice, which sounds as though he is actually serenading his sleeping children.

Where Do We Go From Here- Another shockingly good song. As the title is unoriginal and the chorus did not move me originally, the complete song is one of their most developed on the album, the verses have different feels to them and the chorus complements them well, as its relative softness accentuates the thought-process of the character here (Ed).

Home- Another song that I think flows amazingly well, and I think could shockingly be a decent single. I don't like the pretentiousness of singing a song about soldiers, that actually says that "you could never know what I feel", yet continues to perpetuate that exact understanding. Yet despite all this, I think the music media would gobble it up. I want to stress the fact that I really enjoy listening to the song though, especially when Ed stays out of the soldier psyche and focuses on the motherly aspect of wanting her child home.

All I Need- A great change, much lighter after Home and Where Do We Go From Here. Definitely poppy but nice, and I really think the lyrics are good here. They really seem to describe a real changing relationship, and does it in a way that isn't trite. The music is not groundbreaking, but it does remind of DOAD (as someone said here before).

You Are Not Alone- The guitar here really reminds me of the Edge from U2. I like the song because the chorus is not the same (like Bring the People Together) and seems to allow Chad Taylor to really drive the song with solos and not just a continuous chord or two.

Night of Nights- I don't understand the ripping of this song for the change of pace, I think it flows uniquely well and at least gives some hope to those who think Live are uncreative. It is catchy without being too light, and closes the album out real well. One of my favorites.

Overall this album flows better than any album since Throwing Copper, and may flow better than TC even. Yes this album is more pop, but it has much better guitar work than BOP, which was considered more rock I suppose. I think this album is head and shoulders above BOP, and is on the whole better than V, but this is the first day I have heard it. I do think it will stand my test of time, (which BOP has really not). Just because it is not as loud doesn't make it less good. The Distance to Here was not considerably loud in comparison to the previous two albums either, but it was anthemic and flowed well. I think in a certain way this album is comparable (with Railo back as wel). I do wish I heard a bit more out of Patrick, he seems to get lost in the album, but Ed and Taylor sound very sharp. I feel very good about the future of Live if they continue to put together albums crafted so well, even if they don't particularly "rock" like they used to.

i got shitloads of spyware from one of the sites, but i dont ereally care.

I actually like home!! It was built up to be the worst song of lives carreer, so when i heard it my expectations were low. I think the versus suck ass, but the chorus is actually quite nice, but yer, i dont like the subject matter. I am refraining to listen to other songs i have not heard yet (i.e live concerts) so i still have something to look forward to....

Welcome to MY world.

Hehe, the non-existence of the bass doesn't necessarily mean, there is no person, who WANTS to play it. Maybe he lost his instrument, or Ed took it away nervous.gif

Gonna see them tonight in Amsterdam, i know they will kick ass on stage, but i'm afraid i will be disappointed by the new album, when i buy it next week. I hope you're all wrong and the record kicks ass, now excuse me while i stick my head in the sand. shrug.gif

After numerous listens, I think Mystery is one of the greatest songs the band has ever created. Its a catchy rock song and makes you want to listen to it over and over. It'd make an awesome second single.

I think that SFBM is some of LIVE's best material in a long time. The songs are better than the ones on BOP and they still have the trademark LIVE sound. I love the cd and I am very impressed with it.

I followed the link in my email alert to the website and immediately received a virus warning, so be careful...

Yep, I got the same warning and I got a trojan from the site. I haven't listened to the album yet so I haven't decided if it was worth getting the trojan to get it. I guess that depends on how long it takes me to get rid of the trojan. LOL!

I am right with you on this one. The album is complete and flows very well together. And it sounds like the boys really believe in the songs (I didn't think BOP sounded inspiring).

Just bought the album today and after a few listens I can only say I mostly agree on your review Dan. You quite hit the nail on a few points.. for example the part that you start wondering if this is Live at the point of Wings.

Only difference is that I quite like You are not alone (nice bridge and good overall flow) and Night of Nights (a bit of a darker feeling and a bit more creative).. and that my favorite track isn't sofia but show... sofia has too much of it's cheesy lyrics and the solo is a bit muffled away.

overall the album is ok, but like someone said before... when I was 16 years old they were my favorite band and perhaps the best band in the world.. now they're just ok, but I'll remain loyal to these guys..

Tried to get the leak myself, but the stupid site attempted to install a bunch of crap on my machine. My SFBM copy is "winging" it's way here as we speak, thanks to Amazon.de, so at this point I'm not interested in being cyber-assaulted just to have it a week earlier. Fuggit! I'll wait.

I think Wings is a great fucking song with one exception. It would be 10 times better with one more verse added after the interlude at about the 2:39 mark. Song stands out huge to me along with Night of Nights. Still like Love Shines in spite of what many people seem to think.

And the preorder seems to be back up on the sony site so.....al this worrying and moaning for nothing....

The songs that I actually like after 2nd listening:

Get Ready, Show, Wings, Where do we go from here.
The rest just don't seem like I'm listening to Live Live
On the upside I'm going to their concert in SF and I know they won't disappoint me there.
