QUOTE(Pokey @ Sep 23 2009, 12:19 am) *

The difference is that we don't even know what we're promoting, I could spread the word to some people and then when something is released not even like it myself. Best we can do is just tell them this band exists and they say they're good. I'm not a fan of martins voice from what I heard so I'll reserve any word spreading until I know what my own opinion is

As a band, you've got to do SOMETHING to start promoting yourself before you have real music. I once booked a band for 3 months based on a really shitty live recording of half a song. It wasn't easy but people still supported them, and when their real record came out the response was much bigger than it would have been otherwise.

Personally, as a fan of Live and Candlebox I am spreading the word about this because barring a major clusterfuck of epic proportions their music is going to be really good to people that have the same taste I do. Not everyone else has to do the same, but don't fault the guys for actually wanting to promote what they are doing so that it is successful. What else are they supposed to do? Not tell anyone and then release a record out of nowhere with no hype?

These guys haven't personally promoted anything they've done in a really long time (or ever in some cases) so its good to see them so excited. Its a personal choice to help them or to not, they aren't wrong for doing it.

Of course they're not wrong for doing it, if I were in their position I'd be doing the same thing ... except I'd probably just give the smallest hint as to how it'll sound .. a 30 second clip or something. i mean i'm sure it'll all happen like that as well, and when it does and if I like it i'll certainly recommend it to people I think will like it too, it's just hard to do without even knowing first.

And you'd say "listen to this guys, its sean connery!" ? Hardly what I'd call something to promote a band with. I just don't know how people can get so behind it want to promote it so heavily without really knowing anything about it. But whatever, maybe i'm just old fashioned in wanting to believe in the product you're promoting rather than getting into hype with no substance yet.

I definitely understand, I just can't take the constant complaining is all. I know that's what's in on message boards (not saying that you were doing that).

The guys are giving a lot more insight into the process (both Ed and TGF) than they ever have and as a musician I am very happy about that. I just don't see why everyone is having to complain about what they don't like about it more than being glad that we are actually aware. Can you imagine what it would be like on here if the band had split and then we knew absolutely NOTHING? This place would be insufferable.

If these guys had something they felt was really good, and if they were allowed to by the label they are working with, then I imagine they would get us a clip. They've been very willing to share what they are doing.

It is tough to "hype" your new band without any friggin' recordings. I love Pat's cowbell but I don't think it will cut it.

I'll give the new band a chance and Jerry Harrison producing really caught my interest based on his track record with these guys. But at the end of the day, regardless of how 'rockin' or good the music is, it still needs a great voice / frontman to take it to the next level. And in my opinion Kevin Martin is simply mediocre and not the right man for the job. I wish them luck on this project-record-2010 tour and hope he and the band prove me wrong, but I'm not opimistic. I expect we'll hear a run of the mill rock band and the masses won't exactly be lining up to buy records and concert tix................sorry to bum y'all out, but that's my gut feel on this.

At some point I agree. I think first, they'll have a hell of a good time and the album will kick ass, and all old/new Live fans will like it. Than they will tour in 2010 and they love that. After that the Chad's and Pat realise that Ed is a much better singer and that the best combination is, was, and always will be their music combined with Ed's vocals. I think Martin won't be involved into this any longer than 2 years anyway. The only thing I wonder if Ed will ever want to get back to Live after he'll get used to his creative freedom (with 'just another backing band'). I hope TGF's album will open his eyes.

Ed was a much better singer in the TC, SS days. I'll take Kevin any day over whiny, falsetto "la da da da" Ed.

I'm a fan of over 95 percent of Live's catalogue. When it comes to Candlebox's work, I can count the songs that I truely enjoy on one hand. For me personally, Kevin can not compare to Ed vocally or lyrically.

That said, I think Kevin Martin's has a decent voice, and found him to be a pretty good performer on stage. Let's see what the guys come up with and than judge.

I'm with you on that and will certainly give this new band a chance. Hell, I hope I love it. Just not convinced. I would've been much more fired up if they went with an unknown / obscure diamond in the rough type of lead singer as opposed to someone from an established band with a 'sound' I'm already familiar with (and don't like). Just my opinion. Look forward to watching and hearing this all unfold in the coming months. And I'm not abandoning Ed either....I'll be checking out his solo work with an open mind and will be hitting the Stroudsburg show in October.

bring it on! In some ways, this break/break-up has been more interesting than waiting for a new live album. We're getting two albums at the same time, both from live members, and both undoubtedly trying very hard to compete with each other. only good can come from this
