Hi All- I haven't been here in a few months, and I'm scouring the board to put the peices together regarding Live's undoing... everything from the Ed solo stuff, The Gracious Few, and the dissappearing friendsoflive.com website. Can someone summarize what's going on? I'm interested to hear the comments of the Live members regarding the "hiatus", but it's hard for me to track down all the various facebook and twitter posts.

Based on some of the comments I'm reading from the Chads and Patrick (quoted here on the message boards), it sounds like they did feel constrained and maybe weakened by the direction Ed wanted the band to go. I think this is confirming what we all thought starting around 2001 - that the direction of the band was changing and not everyone was on board. We all knew that something was different about V - and they only went further in that direction for BOP and SFBM.

As a fan, I'm interested to know the dynamics. Though I bet after we hear Ed's new solo album and TGF's album, we'll have an idea (not that we don't already). That should be fun. Here's to new things. I'm looking forward to following both Ed and TGF.

Here is how it happened to the best of my recollection:

Sometime late May of 2009 There seemed to be a distance in the band in the shows. I saw nothing when I saw them on May 9th and everything seemed to be going well. They had a new song, Believe, and it was better than anything off SFBM or Forever. But like I said, at the end of the month Ed announced he was going on a second solo run because he liked the first one so much. This is where we heard Zion for the first time and Ed started his own little site. The band started kinda mocking him on stage when he sang Forever according to sources on this site.

Well, after this second tour was announced and no more shows were being planned the "Last show" quickly came upon us. Live played together and ended with White, Discussion and walked off. All of a sudden Chad started getting all fired up about everything! He revived his twitter and started posting on all the shit he was passionate about and Rumours that he was going to team up with candlebox singer Kevin Martin came out soon. This is all back in Late May I believe... The rumours came from Kevin not keeping quiet about it but chad was super hush about the whole thing.

Ed came out with a new song with Karsh something called "Dirty Water, Lotus Flower" and most people thought it sucked balls but Swami and I liked it. He traveled around and performed with symphonies and went to see the Aussies and sang man in the box at a gig for Layne Staley in Seattle for the anniversary of his death. He also performed with a strange woman who did percussion but we have no audio.

Chad Gracey and the crew actually talked about the breakup that Ed ignored... They (paraphrasing) said, "This isn't permanent, there are no hard feelings between us. We just want to take time to explore. We will always be LIVE." Ed Talked about God ALOT and ignored twits about the breakup. *Note here that I asked him on May 9th 2009 personally, "Will you make Live a Christian band?" He said No but sure does harp on about god alot. Gracey made a big deal about his movie being awesome, POSTED ON OUR SITE ABOUT THE BREAKUP, then released a very short clip of instrumentals and then bragged he had a 5 song demo that sounded awesome.

Everything died down in August...The website went down a couple days ago and we are pissed. Thegraciousfew.com has been reserved by Taylor.

Did I forget anything?? kicking.gif

that was most of it, I think.

Ed also performed with a string quartet on a festival in Holland, and together with the Ducth band Bløf as his backing band on another festival.

Also, Ed is recording at the moment.

And as for the reason for this break: I think Live was in a really alive a good phase early this year (Ed even mentioned "we excercised together for the first time in a long time). Top, Hold me Up (!), Supernatural, they all came back. Nothing seemed wrong. Until they started think about the new Live album. I think that's were it went wrong. I think "Believe" is how CG/CT/PD wanted the new album. But since V, Ed don't want them to participate in the writing. I don't think the new album would going to be different in that, and this time the other guys got pissed. I assume Ed thought whatever: writing alone under the name Live, or doing a solo album, what's the diffece? He had a point there, lol. CG/CT/PD probably thinking: good, time to do musically what we really like.
They probabaly will never record with Ed ever again. Then again, you never now. But my 2 cents are that we at least will see them together on stage again (that's what they all mean by saying "Live's not dead").

Don't forget Taylor was saying "Ed is like a brother" and then "it's all over, save your stubs" and then he deleted "Ed is like a brother" and then "this is my new band all of my energy is here" then he was posting pictures of York saying "this is where Live started, now our new band is here so fuck you Ed".

No quotes in this post are exact!
