There you go turning your opinion into fact again. People are allowed to like a song, even if you don't. I'd personally much rather listen to any song by written by Eddie Kowalczyk than anything written by Bruce Springsteen. Not saying the guy isn't a talented artist, he's just not my thing.

So let's say you didn't know either, heard something like Born to Run or Philadelphia and Holy Water, Lotus Flower, you'd like the EK song better?

QUOTE(VoodooLady @ Jul 30 2009, 8:15 pm) *

we never heard early versions of Sun and Forever on youtube either-- who knows.. if we had.. we might be saying the same thing.. and we dont know what THIS song will sound like after work in the studio

Those versions weren't released for the public to hear, that is the difference. This was released by Ed, if he weren't proud of it would he have released it?

Claiming the song "might be good when its done" is silly, the song is out there and that just didn't happen by accident.

i didnt claim that the song might be good when its done. go read my post again. i said we are comparing apples to oranges.. you cant compare the two.. a youtube release and one thats polished in the studio..

" Sun (loop remix) and Forever May Not Be Long enough both had similar elements and were much better executed."

all i pointed out is that we dont know what this will sound like once it comes out of the studio.. e.g., the painful beginning (to ME) might be cut down to 5 seconds - for ME that would improve MY liking of the song.. others may be disappointed to see the Slumdog homage shortened.. wink.gif

I quoted your post, but there are a lot of people defending the song based on a similar argument so it wasn't necessarily directed at it. My fault on that! wink.gif What I don't get about the argument is that this is an official release, its not something someone got off a demo disc and leaked to the internet or something. Sure the song may come out in a different form later, but it was clearly done in a studio and released by Ed himself.

Hopefully he'll improve the song and make it great later, but that doesn't make this official release any more quality.

What I still can't figure out is why people who haven't liked anything Live has done since 1998 are here on this board in the year 2009 complaining about Ed's solo work not being what *they* want it to be. I have to imagine you have something else to do with your lives, right? If you hate the band and the lead singer this much, why are you even here? And why does it infuriate you so much that someone else might like the new music? Is it some kind of weird insecurity thing?

would it just be easier if we all unzipped and laid it out on the table? maybe we can then move on?

Pfft why would we ever do that? Internets are for arguing on after all, we can't have resolutions and hell, if everyone did just whip it out and measure we would find something about the measuring techniques to complain about.

I wanted to like the song, but it fucking sucks! no.gif Terrible. Ed needs to retire this song and pack it away immediately!
I love Forever though, its one of those songs that i believe would have been a hit if only more people knew about it.

I agree 100 percent. Its a shame it was released on Vanguard and for a DVD. As a first single on a studio album, I think it could have gotten some good airplay.

Just to respond to what was said about about people bitching about the band. I think many of the members here have been in the Live community since the internet became commonplace. I haven't always posted but I've always read. So, a lot of us follow this band because its what we've always done. I equate it to being a fan of a sports team. Some years they suck, but they are always your team.

I think for some of us we were excited with the band's recent shows (Lift Me Up, a new cover, really mixing up the set list) and were thinking the band was on the upswing and recovering from the last album (or two or three albums for some). Then the split happened, and we also began learning more about all the guys through Twitter (which I personally like).

I personally want to support both the side project band and Ed's solo project, but "Eddie K" is really making it difficult what with the coffee, the constant LOLing, his strong religious bent, and now this absolutely awful song. That is me personally, but I doubt I'm the only one here.

So, hopefully that's a good answer to why some of us are unhappy with the current direction of Ed's solo material.

Eddie K. - Zion Zion Zion, out this Fall!!
