I can provide the first part of the complete concert (Melkweg) this evening.
The format is MP3.
I will upload it to Mediafire (I think).

So I made it --> http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=c7ad258...04e75f6e8ebb871
Available starting at 09.30 AM (US time).

The quality is not that good (because of the audience rumour AND because of the fact that the used equipment may be not the best) but since it is my first taping I am still proud to have taped it.
At this moment I am busy upgrading the quality of the original taping; when I am satisfied with this I will provide the higher audio quality.

Please let me hear your (positive AND less positive) comment about the quality.

hey, don't worry it's a great first tape and you can be proud of it!
It makes me think Ed is still a great singer.

You got a great balance between guitar and voice and the reverb is actually pretty damn good!
I don't think you'll get rid of the distortion. Next time, record at a lower level and do a sound normalisation in "post-production".

You won't prevent crowd chatters and screamers to be recorded unless you pay $$$ for professionnal cardioid mics, stand in a really good taping spot (Front of board, balcony...) or use a mic stand.

You'll find a lot of useful taping tips here : http://www.taperssection.com/

Thank you for taping this.

Thatsme,
Thanks a lot for this more than positive comment.
This gives the energy to go for the second taping (I just heard that Okt, 3th Ed will be in Holland again).
This weekend (but starting already this evening) I will continue with the Milky Way concert.

Thanks !!

Do a search with the following keywords : "stealth recording".

Thank you again for this tape : I listened to it twice yesterday and it was really good to hear these amazing renditions of Mother Earth, Face & Ghost, Forever or even Get Ready.

Do you have any advice for me regarding my future taping.
I am using a MD recorder (Sony MZ-R50 or Sony MZ-R70) in combination with a Sony ECM-D S70-P microfoon.
Good choice ??
What kind of equipment are you using ?
This concert (Milky Way) was taped with the MZ-R50 --> I know that the MZ-R 70 has more possibilities in adjusting the level of recording.
But I recently bought both of them and am still learning the best way of recording.
Many concerts to tape so I will improve.
Greetings,

BERLINONE

I recorded a bunch of shows using a Sony MZ-R500 MD and several mics (Sony ECM-717, Sound Professionals SP-BMC-12).
The Sony mic will do it as long as you record solo/acoustic shows and you're near from the sound source.

When recording a full band electric show, you'll need a better mic and a battery box with bass roll-off option to get rid of the boomy reverb you can get at some venues.

I hope what I'm going to say doesn't discourage you, but that recording was very poor. Almost everything was distorted (vocals, audience) - only the guitar and the orchestra weren't affected.

Looking at your equipment, the MD recorder is fine but the microphone unsuitable for music and perhaps the setting you're using on the MD recorder is incorrect.

1. The microphone. You need to replace this. If you just record acoustic (non-amplified music) then it should be fine, but if you try to record a rock show and it will be a complete mess.

2. As the other poster mentioned, you will probably need external power (battery box) if you want to record rock shows. Using a battery box allows you to use the "line in" port on your recorder which gives a cleaner signal and prevent distortion.

3. I'm assuming you used the 'mic-in' port on your MD recorder. You should be using the line-in, but you'll need a battery box as mentioned above.

4. You might have been able to get a decent sounding recording if your recording levels were lower. Do you have a level-meter on your MD recorder? When recording it should display the dB levels. If it gets too high then the audio will distort. Take a look at the user manual and see how to set the levels manually ( http://www.minidisc.org/r50_manual/index.html )

5. Finally, take the advice of 'thatsme' and head over to www.taperssection.com and read up on 'stealth taping'. There are heaps of knowledgeable people over there who are willing to help out new tapers. You don't have to spend much to get a good sounding recording.

Good luck!

Edit: If you want to practice with different equipment/settings without going to a show, then I'd recommend getting in your car and cranking your CD player up and then start recording. That way you can test the limits of your equipment and get a feel of how your gear will cope in different recording situations.

Dear Dangum,

No, I am not discouraged. On the contrary. Thanks very much for your reply.
It is never fine to get "negative-sounding" comment, but I asked to be honest (and you are).
Your (and the others too) comment gives me the possibility to test and improve my recordings.
At least you did mention that "only the guitar and the orchestra weren't affected" --> just kidding.
I will read it again tomorrow morning and start testing , evaluating and trying again until we all think the quality is good (at least better than this one).

Greetings,

BERLINONE
