Very nice to see CT take the time to write a detailed response to this hiatus situation on his blog.......made me happy as a Live fan to read those words. It is without a doubt required reading, so go check it out.

Just thinking about something. Maybe a ridiculous comparison, but think about it. Last week I heard the band Chickenfoot, a so called 'supergroup' will perform in Holland. Their drummer is Chad Smith. It's the drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Yes, that one! He's in a 'new band'. But no one goes wild screaming: "ahh the RHCP are breaking up, they will never be together again!!". RHCP had toured since their Californication album. They needed a pauze. Actually Live is in the same situation. Both bands announced an hiatus, and their members seem to do some side-projects. Only difference is that in Live's case it's decided really fast and follows after a short period in which their seemed to be a new album etc.
RHCP will be RHCP again. Live will be Live again.

The difference is the entire Live band is forming a new group with a different singer, and their lead singer is releasing a solo. Its a totally different scenario, and mostly resembles Creed. The Chili Peppers is a band that doesn't tour all that much, and the drummer probably figured it was time to pick up extra work.

Both bands should be back, but the Peppers are much more likely to reform.

This was long in the making. Look, I know some of you are still die-hard fan and defend this band until no end. I was one of you once and that ended around 2004-2005. The 2000s have been a major disappoint for this band. They've been bland and stale and uninspiring. Record sales have shown this as well as fan support. The 90s were very good to them and they closed out 1999 with a fabulous album that still is my favorite to date. But, it's over, at least for a few years and that's a good thing. If they come back, perhaps there will be a different approach and direction and flavor.

Enjoy the past, but let's move on. I'm ready to and have. Live will always remain in my memories and IPod.

I'm looking forward to Pearl Jam's Backspacer!!!

The last decade hasn't been particuarly kind to Pearl Jam either, when it comes to quality of music and album sales.

They have one of the strongest followings and sell-out arenas with no problem. They've ended this decade very, very well.

They accomplish selling out arena's by living off their 90's fame. They were arguably the biggest act of that decade, and in turn they still have a very large, albeit shrinking fanbase. Pearl Jam hasn't released any transcendant music during this decade. In fact, the last I saw Pearl Jam, they were bombing during the debut of the new Tonight Show. It was probably the worst televised performance I have ever seen by a big-name act.

You're incredibly nuts. "Albeit shrinking fanbase?"

While Pearl Jam is playing for Conan on the Tonight Show, Live settled for Ellen during daytime television with housewives and the unemployed.

Pearl Jam is a thousand times what Live is, was or will ever be and that's a fact and you know it, but would never admit it.

Pearl Jam was always a way bigger band than Live ever could dream of. That still holds true today. However the fact is, after three tries, Pearl Jam has yet to have a platinum album this decade. Also for a band who railed against commercialsm, they quickly signed a deal with Target in order to try and stay relevant in today's marketplace.

They are a huge band who lives off of their 90's success. They are much larger than Live, but they aren't on the level of Coldplay, U2, the Chili Peppers, or even Nickelback this decade. Daughtry's last album sold twice as much as Pearl Jam's entire post 1990's catalogue.

Just the facts.
