What's the hiatus for anyway if the rest of them would back up Ed's solo effort lol?

A healthy Live hiatus at this point would be for them to work with different musicians, and there's a hell lot of talent out there.

Words on the new album could be very true anyway. He did not say when the album was going to be released, right?

He did: each time he was telling what direction they would take, he stated they wanted a new album out this summer. That was early 2009 though, so last few months we all knew that would never going to happen.

Yup, that's what I was saying earlier in the thread. Work with other musicians, get out of your comfort zone, see what kind of chemistry and ideas will happen with other musicians.

I wouldn't be against them covering a Live/Candlebox song or two. But it'd have to be an entirely different band.

Live may be the new Creed. tongue.gif

Like Creed:

The other three band members grew tired of the lead singers ego, formed a new band with a new lead singer.

If that's the path Live goes, its all very similar to what happened with Creed. The only difference is that even though Ed gets messed up on stage, he still performs his butt off.

Obviously, we don't know what the case is, but it seems like the majority of people are putting the blame on Ed for this break/hiatus/ending or whatever else you want to call it. Seems unfair. At his shows he talked about EddieKLive.com as being the basement of FriendsOfLive.com, and somewhat recently talked about writing material for both himself and the band. He always talked about his solo stuff like it was secondary to Live. It seems to me that Taylor is the one who was doing a lot of talk about doing non-music related stuff and getting "away from his boyhood dreams" and "putting the past in the past."

I'm just saying that I wouldn't necessarily put this all on Ed's ego.

Also, being a long-time Live fan, I've always thought that Ed would go solo and put out music long after Live wasn't around anymore. The other band members, well at least the two Chad's, always seemed to have interests that stretched far beyond music...whereas music always seemed to be what Ed was about. You don't see many rock bands stay relevant as they get older...or even after they've been together for as long as Live has. It's easier for a singer/songwriter to stay relevant much longer than that. I don't think Live is washed up by any means.

I'm not saying that this is the end of Live...because who really knows. I'm just saying that I've always thought that Ed would end up doing his own thing someday. When you think about a couple of his idols, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash (and I'm clearly not putting Ed on the same level as them), they are guys that wrote, sang and performed as they got much older...I could see him doing that.

Well thought-out post by Shave.....maybe the best on this thread so far. I have nothing new to add, other than to say I hope some time apart recharges their love for the band and each other. It's sad to think they are growing apart (but to what degree?) and perhaps no longer get along. I hope that's not true.

I think a break can be healthy for them, because they have been touring quite a bit the last few years.......but I hope to hell it isn't 2 full years. And, the thought of CG, CT and PD going the route of a new singer makes me sick. The dude from Candlebox? Please.

To add fuel to the Candlebox fire, someone posted this on their facebook:

To Kevin(lead singer of Candlebox) sorry to hear that live would not let you watch from the side of the stage and made you leave

Since I've personally seen Ed Roland rocking out side stage during Live' set, there may be something deeper here. Chad Taylor made it a point to mention that Candlebox rocked it out in NH on his twitter, so there didn't seem to be any tension from his end. Maybe Ed would not want a potential replacement on stage while he was performing? All speculation, but interesting nontheless.

Like Ex said, if Kevin does join up with Live, it will have to be a new band. But in a way, he would be replacing Ed(huge shoes to fill, btw).

Ofcourse I don't know (no one does), but wouldnt it be more likely that it's just gonna be exactly like Taylor tweeted before: the 3 of them: CT, PD, CG ? no singer. Just making rocking music. I guess details will follow soon, as a website for the 'project' (don't know how to call it else at the moment) would soon follow, according to Chad T.

Rocking music without vocals? I'm not sure if I'd be into that.

Maybe as a jingle or a movie soundtrack. Otherwise, there is no money in instrumental tracks.

I ... wow, that is such a terrible statement. I can understand not being excited at maybe the idea of a whole album of instrumentals or something, but there are some absolutely incredible tracks over the course of musical history which have been instrumentals that aren't "jingles" or movie soundtracks.
