I spoke to a Friend of mine earlier today whos top brass (no names) at Activision the makers of Guitar Hero and I asked him if they would ever consider putting in LIVE songs on any upcoming versions of Guitar Hero. He replied " the lightning Crash guy with placentas on the floor?" and I said yes those guys. He said they didn't think that was a good Idea. I replied with well not "Lightning Crashes" but songs Like "White Discussion or Lakini's Juice" he replied "White Discussion would be pretty cool!"

i think a parody on a Weird al Yankovic album would be even better than guitar hero. it brings up so many possibilities

Playing any solo on a real guitar is a good deal harder than on Rock Band or Guitar Hero.

I am sorry, but this is simply not true. I have played guitar hero at a friend's house, and songs like Sweet Child of Mine (especially everything pre-solo, but even the solo isn't particularly difficult) and Free Bird are so much easier on guitar it's not even funny. And Through the Fire and the Flames is quite difficult on guitar, but not that difficult, they basically want you to play both guitars in that game.

Guitar Hero takes songs from well known guitarists and blows them out of proportion.

How long have you played guitar?

Granted, I have been playing guitar for a while. But the point is, the opening riff to Sweet Child of Mine is much easier on real guitar (seriously, look up a youtube video on how to play it, it's not very hard), and the solos to Free Bird and Through the Fire and the Flames are played by two different guitarists, and the game expects you to play both of them at the same time.

I think you a relating to the games taking a solo and adding superficial strums or something to that effect.

You playing guitar and not sounding like a person that plays these games often, could indeed believe that the game may indeed be more difficult.

My take, as a person that has spent a deal of time at both these games and an actual guitar, I find the real guitar to be significantly more difficult.

If you were to take a person, with absolutely no experience on either, that person will be playing sweet child of mine on Guitar Hero Expert much sooner than they will be playing it on an actual guitar.

I agree on those accounts, I play guitar too. The game does overcomplicate certain things, but by and large it is like playing a solo on one string without having to move your fingers up the frets at all or know scales.

I think if playing guitar were easier everyone would just get a guitar and learn to play the songs, but, that won't ever happen.

One interesting thing I've noticed is that the beats on Guitar Hero and Rock Band aren't perfectly on beat, as a drummer I've learned to play to a click track but I always fail at Rock Band drums. The guitar notes don't work the same either.

Thus, I can say that Guitar Hero is probably hardest for someone who can play a normal guitar.

Agreed. Sorry distance to me but you are wrong. You can't use yourself or any real guitar player to judge what's easier. It would have to be someone that doesn't play either. And from all the people I've seen try both, they easily got really good a lot faster at these games than any real guitar. Some to this day play guitar but are nowhere near as good as they are at those games.

Obviously there are exceptions (like with anything) but overall it's much more likely for the average person to learn to play a guitar hero game better than a real guitar.

I agree that learning the guitar is much harder and takes MUCH longer than it does to get good at these games.

But, my buddy at work, who has been playing guitar for over 20 years and plays gigs in Toronto til this day, swears that actually playing songs on expert level on these games is way harder than it is on guitar. He says it's mostly due to the fact that the charting on these games isn't very realistic. He can pick up a real guitar and play most all of the music on this game quite easily, yet fails out on expert level on all the same songs.

As a guitarist, some of it is definitely unrealistic. It also plays nothing like a real guitar.

But, to say it is harder than actually playing a guitar is a little ridiculous.

The way some of the songs are charted on expert level, it is. I've seen and listened to proof of it.

Heard a few people say that there's no way a song should be harder to play on a video game than it is for them to play it on a real guitar. Watched them play it quite well on guitar and fail miserably at it on rock band.

More people should spend $100 on a start up guitar and amp and learn to play then.

I've never played Guitar Hero or Rock Band.

I feel like if a gaming company is going to go all out and sign contracts with major artists, develop special controllers, etc. to make their game as realistic and fun as possible, why not just make it REALLY realistic and develop a game/controller that ACTUALLY teaches you how to play a real guitar?

If there was a video game that allowed me to play the game AND learn to play a real instrument at the same time, I'd be all over it. I'm actually quite surprised this hasn't happened yet.
