I've been meaning to upload this baby for a while and seeing lovedevine's other thread reminded me so cheers thumbsup.gif

Can't believe it's been over 12 years since I first saw +Live+ back in 1997. This bootleg was recorded at Rod Laver Arena (known back then as simply Melbourne Park) and broadcast by Triple J (can you believe they ever played our dorky lads?).

This is one of the best quality recordings from the Secret Samadhi era and some of these stellar performances were used for as b-sides for future singles.

Enjoy! cool.gif

Ah yes the Melbourne 97 show, my first Live concert, loved that gig, I still say its the best of their gigs I've seen. And this is a good recording for all those that don't have it. haha and you're right, Triple J playing them is crazy, but whats even crazier is that when Mental Jewelrey was released the first station to play them here was Triple R ... it's hard to believe that a band that produced The River could have been on radio stations such as that, even Triple M struggled to play The River.

Here are some pics and reviews from the Melbourne 1997 shows that Ed posted on his site back then:

Well rested from our day off in Surfer's Paradise (none of us surf however, I mean, we're from Pennsylvania) we flew up to Melbourne to play for about 11,000 people. The show was great, the crowds down here continue to blow our minds! We are taping a TV show here tomorrow called "hey, hey it's Saturday". We're going to play "Freaks". I wonder how they're going to censor the "you little **cker" line. Should be interesting. Anyway, off to bed. Peace.

A record breaking night for Live! We played the longest set of our entire career tonight for the 11,000 people who came to see us. A whopping two hours and fifteen minutes! We just didn't feel like stopping. We played Vic Chestnutt's "Supernatural" and the Psychedelic Furs' "Love my Way" along with "Waitress" and "Shit Towne" in the encore. The crowd was very forgiving when I forgot the words to the third of verse of "Supernatural", as well as of our general rustiness on the rest of it. But, hey, it was all in good fun! Thank you, Melbourne. As the accompanying pictures indicate, we had a pretty wild after-show extravaganza. Patrick was spontaneously motivated to wreck the innocent ping-pong table in the dressing room. He suffered no serious injuries but the table, well, it didn't make it. We had a blast all night. Off to Adelaide!

I've only met one person who attended Live's first tour of Australia in 1995. What can you remember about this show? I'd love to hear about it!

Thanks for posting those Dan! I remember reading Ed's tour diary - he was blogging before blogging was even a word!

That marathon 9th May show was my first and still favourite Live show, they were going nuts in the encores especially during White, Discussion - bouncing around the stage trying to pour candle wax on each other lol.gif. As Dan's sig says, it's just a memory now as no recording has ever shown up sad.gif

FYI, the setlist from this and other old school gigs can be found here at the archived version of the now defunct site www.livecc.org. Unfortunately nothing for that 1995 PoW show though...

Would be very interested in seeing that if you could find a way to upload it? bounce.gif

haha that's awesome, never seen those pics Dan, or those Ed blogs .. now thats the kind of Ed talk that is cool, "Eddie K" kinda scares me, Ed makes sense here lol.gif

Also .. wtf, Live were on Hey Hey its Saturday? .. that's pretty far out, and they played Freaks? Daryl Summers and his knitted jumpers must have had a heart attack over that .. god I hated that show with a passion. Is Red Symons dead yet?

I've read a couple reviews of Alternative Nation and apparently it was a mud fest. The crowd was throwing fist fulls of mud on stage and Ed wasn't very happy about that. haha. Thanks for sharing your experience, it would have been awesome to see Live play in such a small venue, especially when they were tearing up the stage back then...

I believe TripleJ radio also recorded Live on their 1995 tour. But unfortunately I've never been able to obtain a copy. Ah well.

Spoke to the people i went with they remember Ed going really crazy on stage during i alone and stage rockin.gif

Dangum how would i go about putting stuff from video up? Would i have to put it on dvd first? I found a clip from 2000,i think when they were to be on this show but Ed lost his voice & chadt&pat were interviewed. Then a clip from Amsterdam of RTTW was shown. If i could put this up i would!

Well, if you can get it onto a DVD then it's easier to transfer it to your PC, but it is possible to connect a VCR to your computer.

I remember that programme. It was called 'House of Hits' and was hosted by Leah McLeod. Live actually did quite a lot of press on the TDTH hour. Ed was interviewed by Jabba on Channel V and Molly Meldrum did an in depth interview with Chad Taylor as well.

I just remembered that I have a tape of this show. I recorded it direct from Triple J in 1997. It's on a TDK SA90 tape so hopefully it hasn't degenerated too much. If anybody is interested in transferring it to FLAC, let me know and I'll send the tape over.
