if you truly don't believe in God, Heaven, or Hell.... then why do you get offended when someone says that if you don't believe in God then you're going to Hell?

i don't believe in aliens... so, if someone told me that unless i start to believe in aliens.. they'll come get my dead body and take me to their dungeon forever... i'd say... "ok, whatever"... and, leave it at that.

My question is, why do you care? If you feel the need to tell someone they'll be punished for not believing in what you believe in, you are insecure about your beliefs. I wouldn't be offended if someone told me I'm going to hell, not just because I don't believe in it but also because I feel sorry for someone who has to say that to cling to their beliefs.

If you would read my damn posts you would see that I am making no definite statements about god whatsoever. You are the one claiming to have all the knowledge and we are all trying to make you realize that you sound like a fool by doing that.

I only took offense to your outright arrogance of defining Christianity in your own narrow terms. There are a lot of Christians who would disagree with your definition of Christianity but who believe in Heaven I thought it would be good to represent them in the discussion since Atheism is well represented here. I've outlined my personal beliefs elsewhere and they are not necessarily the perspective I have come from in this discussion.

Come to think of it, it is not really offensive. It is just sad that you are so quick to damn everyone else to the Hell you believe in, and it certainly carries over to how you treat those around you.

I wouldn't say I get offended, like I explained in an earlier post, because of the way I was brought up I guess I have a now natural opposition to Christianity where as most other religions (whilst I still dont believe in them) don't annoy me, Christianity for some reason just does. I wouldn't say it offends me, I know bible bashers can tell me I'm going to hell all they want and I just smile inside knowing there is no such thing.

To your point before of God knowing things before they happen, why would God have given Adam and Eve the temptation of eating from the forbidden tree knowing ahead of time that they would? If God couldn't forsee that then how is he all knowing and all powerful? He should be able to see the thousands of years of war, anger and death that this free will would have caused on his newly created planet ... the free will in Christian eyes is why people strayed from God, either believing in false Gods or no God at all.
People don't have an answer for this, Christians will just generally hide behind blanket statements like "oh it's God's will!".


In the end I guess I just can't comprihend how people can continue to believe so strongly in something given the amount of holes that can be poked into their arguments of belief, sometimes I think it's quite abmirible(sp?) and other times I think it boarders on a mental illness.

But back to your question about offending, yeah to me it's not offence, but when people like you go on about how it's your "duty" to point people towards Christ, it just makes me think "fuck off!" people who don't want to believe don't need saving. The fact other people are "worried for my soul" just sounds bullshit, because when push comes to shove, there is no way these people would give their life for me, a person they do not no, and there is no way in hell I would give me life for them. To me the whole being worried for someones soul comes off as fake bullshit, something that you say to make yourself believe you're being a better Christian.
Ok maybe laying down your life for someone is a bit extreme, but you see what I'm getting at.

I'm not offended, just exasperated by your and your ilk never shutting up about it and having nothing to say for yourself unless you can frame it in the perspective of mentioning Jesus or God. I'm an atheist, but I don't constantly work out how I can work that point into a conversation. If we ignore you, you keep on and on until you get what you wanted, which seems to be an argument.

You'd lose your rag too if that person who tried to make you believe in aliens constantly went on and on and on and on and on and on and on like a 3 year old when they have their "Mom, mom, mommy... mom, mom, moooooommm, mom, mother, mom, momeeeeeee!" head on. Well we're gonna have to wrap this up with an agree to disagree, I don't think he laid down his life for me cos .. well, i just don't believe there's enough proof of that. I don't believe he loves me (or that he's there at all) because what first lead me down the path away from Christianity was a lack of feeling love. So you're not gonna change my (our) mind and I (we) are not gonna change yours.

The funny thing is though since denouncing religion I feel so much happier, I feel more free, I feel more love in my life .. it just *feels* right ... if I were straying away from the one true path, it just shouldn't feel like this I imagine.
