QUOTE(Badman @ May 6 2009, 12:07 am) *

I listened to it all. Really nice version of Heaven but the older stuff was kinda bland. Lightning Crashes was really good, comical and he has to restart the song once. thumbsup.gif

I'm the opposite in opinion.

Heaven was meh, maybe im just tired of the song.

Pain Lies on the Riverside was really good and so was Sofia.

I've never heard a Beauty of Grey Solo performance either. Ed's pushing the solo thing and I think he's proactively tried to take a big chunk of the falsesetto out of his singing. He;s lower tones and does the raspy-growl kind of thing more often instead. I like the direction his singing has turned.

Absolutely, Ed really only has a pretty limited range as a singer, when he stays within that range his voice is incredible, one of the best I've ever heard .. however he pushes it way too hard sometimes to places it just isnt supposed to go so I think (hope) he's realising that.

we all love where his voice is going but the content is still not quite there... I still think it sounds good when he sings out of range but it isn't his best. Makes me appreciate it though.

Someone mentioned the sophia being good here? I say that the March 27 house of blues version is the best version we have. Ever since I heard that I compared it to every version and it ocmes out on top.

Now that I have listened to the bootleg that is on sale a zounds times now, I can say what really gets at me. The one and only thing.

Ed sounds very well. He talks to the audience and really sometimes makes me smile. But ... the word CHILD in every second line?? Fuck no. This is the first thing i absolutely detest. I never minded his falsettoes. But this... Shoosh, get rid of it, for god sake.

Ed posted a new video where he talks about the awesome robe he got and sings some Zion lyrics:

Well I'm glad there was a reason for the robe cos looking at him I half expected him to stand up, de-robe and shoot a porno or something. Liking all this new interaction though smile.gif

The drug I would say he is mostly on during this video is...and I'll give 3:

01. Marijuana. The laughter, the strange sense of awe over an average robe, the inhibition, the need to hide his bloodshot eyes with dark shades.

02. Ecstacy. Despite the lack of heavy breathing, sweat, and overall excitement that characteristically accompanies this psychoactive, Ed is generally happy (though not QUITE euphoric), and he is very much aware of the tactile reception derived from the contact with his new robe. The freestyle Zion singing is also quite typical of the free feeling this drug produces.

03. Psilocybin. He is very laid back and wholesome. The momentary laughter might represent one of the many "coming up" peaks that are typically seen during the first hour of consuming this drug.

Ed seems to have totally changed recently, I'd say the biggest change since the SS > TDTH period, it's like he's becoming more interactive and showing more of himself or something. I know that comes with putting up a website and such, but just even his interactions at recent shows seem to be more than the old "How you guys feelin now?". Really cool to see I gotta say.

In contrast, I'm not sure I like it... I mean, it's cool that he's more in touch than ever before but it seems like the guy we're seeing really is miles apart from the cool mysterious bloke that wrote Throwing Copper etc. It's not bad per se, but just... I don't know.
