i guess the reason i had such a strong reaction is because to me live has always been a kind of voice of reason when it comes to spiritual matters. Growing up as a catholic and all of the rites of passage and all the fire and brimstone imagery that comes with it left me a pretty confused frightened teenager, with massive amounts of guilt and anxiety about life, death and beyond. Mental Jewelry was such an eye opener, TC was the angry repressed ego rebelling violently against the system. All of which led me to read extensively into krishnamurti's teachings which blew my mind and helped me shed all (or most) of that hokey conditioning and i always felt that live understood that.

for ed to be a "christian" now, just baffles me. The reason is being a chiristian means you know that jesus christ is your saviour and only hope of redemption, and anything else means eternal burning in the pits of hell. Literally. There is no other way. There are no metaphorical interpretations. There WAS a guy called jesus who died for us and he WAS resurrected in the flesh and rose to the heavens. Its NOT a matter of interpretation. Gotigrz will tell you that. And to me.....thats just shit. To say i must believe something that comes out of a story book and devote myself to it is absurd. There's no way to prove it.

Live always encouraged a different approach to spirituality and that truth is available to everyone through the power of love. But now it would seem ed believes that jesus and his dad sit up in the clouds and cry when you masterbate. We've been shafted.

I must admit... I much prefer the idea of Ed being all spiritual and more interested in humanity itself and the love etc. If songs become specifically about the holy father or Jesus... like, really about them, I'll find it hard to digest.

An indie band should take any exosure that they can get. Plenty of Live singles throughout the years would have worked on Christian Radio: Lightning Crashes, Selling the Drama, Heaven, to name a few. I definitely think Forever, Purifer, Hold Me Up, or Believe would work on the format as well.

Its worth a shot.

Okay, I see what you mean nick... But I don't think selling the drama would be right as the song is strictly anti-religion (selling the "religion" drama.) I think I remember hearing something about Heaven making it to christian radio. My Ex gf had a guy at her church sing Heaven before she even knew who live was. To me, Heaven is confusing with the "I'll believe it when I see it" next to the "I don't need no proof, when it comes to god and truth" line.

I guess this is kinda like a desperate politician trying to pander to any group.

Not really, I did some digging on Stereotruth.net, and they play The Fray, Mat Kearney and other non-christian artists. If the song is ambiguous enough to fit the christian format, why not go for adds there?

Stereotruth.net has a youtube performance of Lightning Crashes on its homepage. Plus:

The Fray
Addison Road
Francesca Battistelli
MercyMe
Underoath
Relient K
U2
Brandon Heath
KJ52 Devotional
Katy Perry
Britney Spears
The Jonas Brothers
Miley Cyrus
David Cook
Paramore
American Idol
Jessica Simpson
To Write Love on Her Arms

gotigrz: How about you go start your own thread to discuss the 'way to God' instead of derailing a Live-related one. It's amazing how you haven't posted on this board for months and the first mention of Jesus and Christianity and here you are...

tbh I think we can all argue about this til the cows come home but one thing's for sure: God wants another Throwing Copper

Fuckin' A~! rockin.gif

Also, gotigrz, you need to open yourself up to the possibility that God might not exist. In my world, he doesn't, so all your rules are meaningles and you're just playing a game with yourself. In your world, it's different. There's no proof for either side (though the burden lies with you, the believer), so you can take your threats of burning hell and shove them somewhere else, ta.

Also x2, Dangum, you should be able to split this thread into two?

Done.
gotigrz's - Jesus is the only way to heaven thread

Any religious talk should be restricted to the link above. If you want to discuss Ed's or Live's spiritual beliefs then continue posting here.

well, what else is there to be said about ed's beliefs. he said that his "heart and soul has been saved, redeemed, restarted, rebooted by the Lord Jesus Christ forever".

another thing i don't understand, is that i get blasted for telling you my beliefs, but yet that's what ed does in 99% of his songs and you love it. listen to the words of purifier, take me up to zion, forever... those songs are oozing his love for Jesus Christ. and, i love it.

i just wish some of the ones on this board would find the Lord if they haven't yet.

Haven't you got somewhere else to be, wearing a sandwich board? And you do realize the more you try ad ram your evangelism down our throats, the more you put us off?

I don't care what any artist believes in as long as they can produce decent music. Two of my favourite artists (Lucky Jim and Woven Hand) are strongly Christian, but I don't hold it against them. Sadly, they seem to be an oasis in the desert of their peer's smug mediocrity as far as the eye can see, Live's recent efforts included.

I am pretty concerned if this idea of the band being pushed on Christian radio is true. I can see conservative evangelicals making Live their band that "converted from sin to Christianity." That may help them achieve some level of popularity though I guess. Still, you tend to see a lot of bands leaving Christian music, not going towards it.

The Christian music business is not very different from the secular music business though, they are equally corrupt. no.gif

Absolutely, I love that line in Forever that goes

"Forever and Ever
The darker the night
The lighter the Jesus Christ"

Basically I don't see how Forever exactly favours Christianity or Christ over any other religion.
