in that case how could a guy NOT like this song happy.gif

Ed needs to start writing about things that most people can actually understand or relate to. Why doesn't Live get better press and airplay? Because Ed writes multiple songs that include Zion . Most people don't relate to Zion or even know what Zionism is.

I don't understand why Ed can't write about things that real people can relate to like telling a story of someone who just lost their job and how it affects them. Instead we repeatedly get "plastic little places" and "water" this and that. What happened to the songs like Shit Towne and Waitress that talked about people and experience?

It's about time Ed grew as an artist and a lyricist.

Look at what's going on in the world around you and write about it and reflect on it. Those are the songs that relate to people and leave a lasting impression. That's what brilliant lyricists like Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and Bruce Springsteen (to just name three) did and that's why their music lasts!

music lasts!

Forever is a song that many people can relate to. The darker the night, the brighter the dawn is a really strong lyric in my opinion. Everyone goes through hard times, and Forever is the type of uplifting song that many people can aspire to.

I don't expect Live to get particuarly strong airplay with their new album, especially if they are with Vanguard. There are other ways to promote your music, and Vanguard has done a great job with Live so far.

As long as the music is good, I'll be happy.

Okay Hoodie, No. You are a fool and I am sure someone will follow me up on this. Why should Ed, a man who makes music as an art form AND because he likes to, conform to what he thinks the people want? A real artist says, "fuck you people!" if they don't like his music. A pop artist says, "Please like my music, I'll write whatever tripe you want, just buy Buy BUY!!"

Ed writes his songs very broadly so they can apply to everybody. He writes about a Shit town because we all know a place that just sucks like York. He writes mirror song because we can all look inside ourselves to find change and he fucking writes I alone because we see leaders everyday in every country leading people where they don't want to go!!

I applaud Ed for not giving in and becoming a pop pussy even if that's what SFBM looks like. He obviously isn't rushing to get another label so he can't care too much about getting on the radio with Lady Gaga and T-Pain and whatever other trash the kids listen to. Until you can come up with a less laughable argument, go listen to Kiss.FM and the Autotuned crap they feed you.

May your shit come to life and kiss you.

If he isn't being sarcastic, this is a new low even for Hoodie. I think all of V, BOP and SFBM is geared toward being something people can relate to, and the lyrics on all three are horrible. Ed hit his pinnacle of lyric writing on Secret Samadhi. The lyrics on most of the album, especially on Century, are phenomenal. Why would anyone want someone with that kind of writing potential to write about some guy losing his job?

maybe ed should write a song exploring the depths of hoodies ownage on this forum.

I do see where u are comming from tho bro. Eds approach has always been a little more inward than most of what you hear on the radio. "I always wanted to affect the inner space of people" says ed in the interview on the awake dvd, as opposed to other bands who speak about the outward world, political bands etc. You quoted waitress and shit town as examples, yet on the very same album you have songs like lightning crashes and selling the drama, which still have youtubers in a flaming war of words over their meaning to this day. (not that thats saying much for youtube).

Which is what really counts, after all is said and done. To hell with mass popularity and the charts (unless of course if that's what the band is after first and foremost).

There's a York 12 miles from where I sit right now; it's a decent place to shop, actually.

Absolutely .. I think the average person will relate stronger to a song like Mystery or Run Away .. not to songs like Gas Hed or Insomnia .. but it's clear that the SS songs are the better lyrics ... some people write better about the every day life but I don't think that is Ed's strong point. You gotta play to your strengths and I don't think Ed's simplistic "boy meets girl" type lyrics are his strong point.

Ed, go to Zion by yourself and come back with songs that will reflect the current landscape of the world and some lyrics that normal people can relate to.

That's what this band is lacking right now!

Edit:

Ownage my ass. You guys are so lost in Liveland you're crazy. Just because I'm outnumbred by people who don't get it doesn't make me wrong. Look at any respected artist who's music has stood the test of time. The lyrics relate to things going on in the real world at the time the songs are written. They paint an image or are a window into the time. I enjoy Live's music but they need to evolve.

Ed has been writing about the same things for years and it's getting stale. All he needs to do is look at what's going on for material that will last. If you disagree with the previous two lines than I can't save you.

Are you serious? Yes, let's get more songs like Home, BTPT, and WAWFF. Do you want him to write a song about the swine flu, I guess it could be catchy. "Baby you'll always be mine, even if you get the sickness of the swine."

How many songs on TC weren't about what was going on in the world? What in the hell was SS about? Who knows, but it was awesomeness. TDTH was about a spiritual journey, kind of along the lines of Take Me Up to Zion, and is considerd by many their best work.

Forcing a song about a specific topic is bad news. Anti war and political songs if not done exactly the right way are garbage plus nowadays the've been beaten to death.

It's not Ed's job to relate the song to people. It's his job to put out there whatever he wants and the people's job to interpret it. If they don't see eye to eye with him that's their loss, not Ed's.

Dude, in all seriousness, I can't tell if you're being retarded here or not. Or if you're just plain retarded.

Being an artist isn't about writing about what people can relate to. Who the fuck wants anybody to conform to that bullshit line of thinking?

BOP and SFBM are proof that getting away from what made him successful is a bad idea. Writing about love and "la da da da" bullshit. Mainstream crap that everybody is writing about so that retarded ass teenagers and retarded shit pant adults like you can relate to. Fucking idiot ass douche sponges. God I'm so sick of you morons and honestly, can't believe in a god that would allow people like you to breed.

Being an artist is being true to yourself, not about what is relevant. All great artists of the past were poor ass beggars in their day because nobody realized what great art they made. People couldn't relate nor understand, so it was under appreciated and even looked down on. These artists that are looked upon as geniuses today, were thought to be fucking losers in their time. Did they conform? No, it's what made their art the fucking genius it is today. They refused to sell out and paint SIMPLE, PRETTY pictures of the sky and of birds, that only simpletons could relate to and understand. Their visions of beauty were so much deeper than what almost the entire population could understand.

Fuck writing about anything relevant. Write about what's deep in his soul and the beauty will be reflected automatically. Attempting to write in such a manner so that others may understand detracts substantially from the lyrics themselves.

You are an utter fucking dolt if you think this guy should write one single fucking word geared towards any god damned moron not intelligent enough to recognize the beauty in what's trying to be conveyed by any artists true intention. Conform to nobody and be true to ones soul.

Fuck you and the horse you rode in on. Idiot.
