How was the crowd, and how long did Ed play for?

A female by the name Magot Macdonald opened. Young girl kind of folky cross between tori amos and the chick from evernescence. She was great!
Ed played for I thinkk a little over an hour. Did standard set. Forever, TDTH, mirror somng, all over you (I think). Dance with you, Blowing in the wind, overcome, heaven, dolphin cry, and some others.
Crowd was very respectful of the "no talking during the music policy." Very laid back and intimate...about 200 people.
Ed was very gracious of his time and signed autographs and pictures with everyone. Reallyu great venue! It was so hard not to "rock out" duiring some of the up beat numbers. But very cool to see it stripped down like that! He shared some storied kind of like the old "story tellers" series. I have seen them many times. This ranks up there next to 2008 Chameleon club!

Ed also played Nobody Knows for the first time in a while.

The new track was called Take Me Up to Zion I believe and the opening lines were something like "Take me up to Zion where I can lay my burdens down. The road is on fire...." and so forth. The whole track was much darker than anything they have done recently.

Was a great show last night! Take Me Up to Zion is one of the best tunes I've heard in a long time, its sure to become an american classic. The best I can describe it as is it sounded like an old slave chant and it was about getting away from your enemies for some peace of mind. I also thought the song sounded like it could be on the same album as Nick Drakes "Been Smoking Too Long", same kind of style. Before he played it he said he just wrote the some and finished it 2 days ago.

The general theme of the song was more angry but not really angsty. I can't remember the main chorus exactly, but there was something about "taking the fight to my enemies" or something like that. I believe the song also used more metaphor and less simile, I can't recall the use of "like" at all. I also don't remember ever hearing the word "love" at all in the song, which is a notable change from recent material.

I'm not 100% on that, it's the best I can remember. I really should have thought quicker and recorded some of it on my phone...

It would be nice if Ed didn't reference any of the old material in new songs for once.

By the way, when the hell did he go from Ed to Eddie. The new site (which is still not linked at friendsoflive.com) and friendsoflive.com both refer to him as that.

Yeah, the first time I saw him as "eddie" was on the billboard driving into the venue. EDDIE K was listed. My first thought was .....wtf? I guess its his way of distinguishing his solo act from band. If so....that's fair. It is a different show with a different feel.

Ed's been using the Eddie moniker for years. I heard an interview where he said that his 'friends' call him Eddie. Also, he's used it publicly at the Integral Naked site.

Some footage from this show has appeared on YouTube. It's not the new song but at least there's hope that it was filmed...

I was about to pull out the injournals link when I saw you'd done it. He has been Eddie for years. I'm more worried about the fact that he's going to go solo than about what he's called.

We need the BAND man!

All of that aside...he's damn cute. still hot after all these years! Been on the Helter Skelter mission again for days now!
