Try using dBpoweramp. It's 1 program that will covert the FLAC to MP3. Very easy to use.
Instructions (inc. screen shots) can be found here.
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm
Download link can be found here.
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/download.htm
Choose "Download: dBpoweramp Music Converter R13.2 5.3 MB"

Seriously, try it. It's not time consuming. If you can't figure it out by reading the 1 page of instructions, you probably should return your computer to BestBuy or wherever you got it from.

Another way to convert FLACs to MP3 is to just "right click" on a FLAC file and then choose ("Convert to") (Note: you need to have installed the dBpoweramp program to do this)

Thanks for this Dan! I was using a winamp to convert flac to wav and then another program to convert wav to mp3. This is just so much easier! smile.gif

You need to download a bitTorrent program. I recommend downloading, uTorrent.
http://www.utorrent.com

Once you've installed that program, go to the Dimeadozen site, find a torrent (in this case: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=242915 ), then click on the link at the top of the page ( Torrent file : live2009-03-27.torrent )

uTorrent will automatically open up and ask you for a location to save the contents of the torrent (the FLAC files). Just tell uTorrent to save them to your desktop.

That should get you started:)

so i downloaded utorrent...clicked on the link...and it popped up in utorrent, but it is just listed as an inactive download...is that normal??

and then how do i go from being just a leecher to being a seeder on dimeadozen??

i know these are probably stupid questions that i should be able to figure out on my own, but thanks for the help

It should automatically start downloading. If it doesn't, right click on the torrent (in uTorrent) and select "Force Start")

A leecher is a person who is in the process of downloading the torrent files. Once you've finished downloading, you automatically become a seeder. With Dimeadozen (and other private torrent sites) they keep track of your upload/download ratio. You should aim to keep the amount you download to equal the amount you upload (a ratio of 1). That's why people say 'keep your windows open after you finish downloading'. Of course this is sometimes not possible to do on every torrent (you may have come in late and there's nobody left to upload to), but it should even out as you download other torrents.

You should also try to ensure uTorrent is set up correctly. Do do know what sort of internet connection you have? (ADSL, Cable). And what's your internet connection download and upload speed? Report back after you've checked your speed here: http://www.speedtest.net/

Cool. In uTorrent, click on "Options" --> "Speed Guide" and under "Connection Type" select "xx/256k"

That's weird. Could you post a screen shot of the main uTorrent screen (General tab)?

There are currently 16 seeders and just the 1 leecher so you should be getting much better speeds that what you've reported.

Thanks Dan!

btw, I figured out the root of my Dime issue, I had uTorrent running as a service AND as a process. I eliminated the service and everything seems to be running much smoother now.

Dan, thanks for all your help...and i definitely appreciate you uploading it to mediafile.

I think it must be something with my router settings, since i logged on briefly at school and got much quicker speeds...so hopefully i can get it up and running at home for future torrent usage.

thank again!!
