If anyone has set times for the 3 bands for Thurs and Sat nites please pass it on. I assume Bear Hands is up first. Subpar band name IMO, but I like their sound quite a bit after listening to a couple of tunes they have up on their myspace page, so getting in early probably is worthwhile. Looking forward to Thurs...

I'm going with my wife and another couple. Its going to be an awesome show!

Hey,

Im going with my girlfriend, vip box 107 which is to the right. I got them the day they went on sale. Im thinking the center balcony would have been better, - but thats all I could get.
Do you know if there is a band playing before +Live+ goes on? It says the doors open at 7:00

Anyone looking for one or two tickets to the AC show on Saturday? I'm not feeling so well, so I don't think I'll be able to make the drive. :-( It's been so long since I've seen the guys, too - over 2 years. Oh well, maybe next time.
Anyone interested in the tickets? Please email me at edsiris@aol.com
Thanks,
Christine

3/26/09 Starland Ballroom Review:

Setlist

Purifer (Nice opener)
Gas Hed Goes West
Forever
Top
Selling the Drama
The Distance
Hold Me Up (It was difficult to hear Ed during the first two chorus', but the last chorus was great)The Dolphin's Cry
Lakini's Juice
Turn My Head
I Alone (Ed played guitar for the first half, and sang the whole song. Very Awesome!)
Heaven
Lightning Crashes

Encore
Blowing in the Wind(dylan) Ed solo
All Over You
Run to the Water
White, Discussion

Quick Notes

-Chad and Pat have now switched sides

-The crowd was pretty quiet during the first half(obscure songs), but came to life big time for the second half of the show. Ed's shirt stayed on.

- The place was beyond packed again. If that place wasn't sold out, God Help Us All!

-Starland sells glass beer bottles, an accident waiting to happen.

-No mention of DVD, but Ed was happy that one of his songs got into a porno movie.

-Great show, and with practice the new songs should fit in nicely. Bring on AC!

Live came on at 9:30 and played to 11. I arrived at the venue at 9:10 and missed the opening acts.

I was at this show too and loved it. Extremely surprised to hear them alter the set with songs like Gas Hed and Top.............christ, Gas Hed is one of my all-time favorite Live tunes. Purifier was a cool opener. And of course WD was a great close. I'm fired up and can't wait to get to AC. I wouldn't mind if they played the exact same set in fact.....one or two additional surprises would be nice, but the same set wouldn't bother me at all (not every day I say that).

Ed took the time to give a girl in the front props on this being her 400th Live show! That is hard to comprehend. I thought I was devoted - last nite was number 52- but I seem like a freaking amateur compared to this chic. Anyone know who she is and if she posts on this board? I'd love to hear about her experiences and how she went about getting to such a staggering number.

FYI ON SET TIMES / OPENERS: IMO, Bear Hands is damn good and worth checking out. Not comparable to Live at all, buy I dug their sound. Have a bit of a Modest Mouse thing going on. I missed the band that opened the show, and Bear Hands came on second and started around 8:30ish I think (a little fuzzy on the time). It wasn't a long set, but really solid. Live started about 9:25-9:30, and played til a few minutes after 11.

Live" finally lives up to name with new release
By ROBERT DiGIACOMO For At The Shore, 609-272-7017

Published: Thursday, March 26, 2009

For a band called Live, it sure took a long time - some 15 years since their major label debut - to release a concert album.
Lead singer Ed Kowalczyk is at a loss to explain why the new "LIVE at the Paradiso - Amsterdam," CD and DVD (Vanguard Records), was so many years in the making.

"That's the million-dollar question," says Kowalczyk, who performs with the band at 9 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at the House of Blues at Showboat Casino-Hotel in Atlantic City. "The inside joke for years was when are we going to do this and what are we going to call it? We had plans to do it over the years, and for whatever reason, it got pushed aside for the sake of doing a studio album at the time."

The alternative rock band, which got its start when Kowalczyk and three friends met some 20 years ago in a York, Pa., middle school, certainly has a stockpile of material: Live has recorded seven studio albums and sold more than 20 million CDs.

Ahead of the band's appearance, Kowalczyk spoke to At The Shore about what makes Atlantic City a great rock town, how being a dad has changed his rock star lifestyle and why Live couldn't wait to get out of York.

Q: You play here once a year. How does A.C. compare to other casino towns?

A: The fans are just incredible - we always have great shows. It feels more like an urban rock town. ... Atlantic City is unique in that way.

Q: When you perform, do you lock in versions of your best-known songs, or change them up?

A: We're not the type of band that gets inside songs and makes 10-minute jam versions. The structure of the songs pretty much stays the same. If anything changes, we bring different energies to them in different contexts.

Q: Your lineup also has been a mainstay. What's the secret to your longevity?

A: The older we get, the more mysterious it is that at age 13 we were not only capable of playing together, but of growing together as musicians. You get the hippie on real quick. Was it destiny? The older we get, the more it's like, "What a trip." The four of us, as long as we've been together, we are really passionate about music. Because this music moves us, it becomes the thing we end up serving beyond our own interests.

Q: One thing that's really different from the early days is that you're now a father of two. How is it being a dad in rock?
A: None of us have ever - in the classic rock fashion had rehab or ever needed it - but we did show up three years ago and realized hangovers were a pain in the ass. We looked around, and there's no more vodka in the dressing rooms - there's Ezekial (organic) bread and almond butter ... and health bars and protein drinks. We said, "Wow, this is a little different."

Q: What did it mean to come out of a place like York, Pa.? Were you reacting against something, or was it a nurturing environment?

A: The influence of York on me personally was that there wasn't anything else around. There were no other bands that we could go see. We definitely weren't part of a scene. What it enabled us to do was be whatever we wanted to be, and not feel like we had to copy anything that was popular, because there wasn't anything that was popular. There was kind of a void that allowed us to develop a sound and an attitude. We were unique and we were the only fish in the pond. That was really good for our confidence in those years. We couldn't wait to get the hell out of York. That was a huge influence on us getting a record deal and really wanting to do it.

Live

I just called the House of Blues in Atlantic City. The show is sold out(no word if limited tickets will be released for the door) and Live is scheduled for the stage at 10 pm.

I'm pumped for tonight.

HOB Boston Review from Joe:

The venue was amazing.. acoustics at HoB are always excellent, but this new one was especially good. The crowd sucked, at least where I was. Either college kids who didn't even know the ones everyone knows at the other shows, or way old farts who couldn't hold their liquor dancing around snapping their fingers pretending to have any idea who LIVE was.

Top was great, Blowin' in the wind was a nice replacement for Walk the Line.. That new Takamine sounds amazing. I'm always happy when they play the Distance. Selling the Drama, All over you, Turn my Head, Run to the Water (wife was happy). Hell they were all great once the first three were over (new ones) and Ed took that fucking scarf off and stopped dancing like he'd done WAY too much exctasy. Wife and I were all WTF at first, but then again all of his new dance moves take a while to grow on us (or they take him a while to do well, not sure which). He brought the bullhorn back from Amsterdam, I could do without it for Lakinis but it's perfect for those lines in White, Discussion.. he even threw in a hard southern accent 'I warned you, I prepared you'.. was funny.

Seriously, after the first three songs were over, it became one of my favorite shows. The guitars were just amazing.. not sure if it was them, or the venue, but it sounded SO good. Every song was a 'guitars UP' mix. I think they have been practicing, as the overall production quality on Hold Me Up was just outstanding. Or I've been listening to the crappy demo for so long I was just easily impressed heh. I was surprised they ended on White, Discussion.. but another show ending with 'Dance with you' might have left a weird feeling.. this setlist was so surprising that I know we'll be anxious to drop a grand on plane tickets and hotel to do it again soon (Texas, maybe?). It's nice not knowing what comes next, or what gem they will pull out of the graveyard.

If you get a chance to catch a show soon, you won't be disappointed.. the boys have been practicing and Hold Me Up is absolutely amazing live.
