I can't wait for this album to come out, I still say it's the make it or break it album for me.

Agreed. Right now Zappa and Live are equals for me. I don't listen to live outside of shuffle anymore.

Zappa has 1.8 gigs taken but Live has 2.87. Just audio smile.gif

It is a pretty important album, this one, yeah. But hey, Purifier is where they're headed. Think positive, guys. nod.gif

a lot of people said sfbm was the make it or break it album for them when we got word they were in the studio, and we all speculated or hoped that it would be a massive comeback full of the diverse mindblowing rock we all love from them, and then we got the one minute cut of the river.........

ed said it somewhere on the interview track on awake, that he was all about "tearing it down and building it up", meaning doing a 180 on peoples expectations, and even recently said in an interview that you never know when live will completely change directions. In that sense, Sfbm was successful, because no one, NO ONE expected the river.

so lets hope they have something nasty up their sleeve for us, coz life would be so much more interesting with a great new live album to listen to nod.gif

I dunno .. a lot of people were annoyed with BOP because of it's pop rock style and there were rumblings that they hoped they didn't lean further towards the pop part rather than the rock bit ... then when the river came out it kinda confirmed quite a few people's suspicions ... I guess I was one that was stupidly holding out hope that they wouldn't keep going down that path.
This time I'm having no expectations ... whatever they make, they make. If it's more absolute garbage then I think I'm done. If they surprise the hell out of me with something awesome then that will be awesome.

Nothing really new, but whatever:

QUOTE
"We're hoping to have a new album out within the year," Kowlczyk claims. "I'm always working on music so it's a constant work in progress. The two new songs we've got are called Forever and Purifier. The first one is really uplifting and talks about faith and holding onto the truth no matter what you're up against. And Purifier I just love, it's this wild and crazy blues-rock gospel number. We just don't want to rush an album
because we take our records seriously to make sure fans get us at our best. The melody is important but the lyrics more so I think. Back when we were 20 years old, people would say, 'your songs are so serious for your age', but now at 37 I feel like I can still sing the old songs and relate to them. I have two children now and Lightning Crashes was written way before them, so I think that's how you stay relevant, by being able to grow with your music."

I nearly cried when I first heard SFBM all the way through. I felt shit for days, it was like a really bad hangover. If the new album doesn't have that effect on me, then it'll be a step in the right direction!

QUOTE(Distance to Me @ Mar 6 2009, 11:58 pm) *

CREATIVITY! Where has it gone? Purifier is a step in the right direction creatively, but we need some truly creative songs with good lyrics tacked on.

We need a 7 minute epic, an instrumental, a song without a chorus, a song that is straight up badass rock with something cool thrown in (some badass violin playing? It does exist!).

I think we need more background vocals, more kick ass bridges, some bass, a sexy guitar solo or 2, a drum solo, some more bluesy songs, tricky needs to rap in a song that you wouldn't think he would be in (like some acoustic song that picks up a little towards the end, and violins kick in and the instruments are roaring, and in the background he's rapping or something. If you've heard "Middle Man" by Bright Eyes you'll know what I'm talking about).

Ed needs to get pissed about something, and Live needs to let Patty D loose! Some PLotR bass playing, god we need that!

Read this Live! Read it! ^^That would make one badass record! rockin.gif rockin.gif rockin.gif

I'll second that. Let Pat loose again to write his own lines ala PLOTR, STAGE and TBD. Most of Live's good shit has Pat shining right on through. Even his bass in I Alone is fucking awesome. Enough of the cookie cutter shit and lets here some fucking rock that actually takes some talent create and play.

They also said BOP was heading back in the direction of Throwing copper. What a fucking joke that was.

I disagree. BOP has more harder songs than most of V and all of SFBM: Lighthouse, Rivertown, She, Life Marches On, Like I Do... all pretty good to excellent rock songs in recent Live song history.

I'd say that BOP has been the closest to a rock album we've gotten since TDTH.

Like I do and lighthouse maybe but V is "harder." Transmit, Fumble, simple creed, PLY, and more lead me to believe that V is either greater or equal to BoP in Hardness. TDTH wasn't very hard at all imo. Voodoo lady, DC, and WFG were getting there though. Actually... now that I think about it all the albums seem to have about the same balance of heavy and light songs except SFBM... that album had nothing.

BOP had that horrible clean cut pop rock sound, it didn't have the edge to it that TC had. Also almost any song's lyrics on BOP would have stuck out like a sore thumb on TC even with the harder edged music ... so yeah they're pretty far apart

BOP was mechanical because of the same song structure for almost all the songs. All the songs sound the same way. But Like I do and Lightouse are awesome.

V was at least an attempt of something. I was mad at the time but despite the very bad lyrics some songs are enjoyable (SC, DE, TYL, FMNBLE, Overcome, HOL). But hell that Call me a fool and OK pissed me off back then.

SFBM was their worse record ever, so the new one will be better. Like some said, work together guys and make sure to have 12-13 DIFFERENTsongs. SFBM looks the same from songs to songs except for 2-3. BOP the same.

I don't get the make or break talk. You either like the bands body of work or you don't. If you lose love for them thats fine, but it's not simply over one album. Perhaps your tastes have change or you sinply don't care for the style of the band. You can talk direction all you want but they are what they are.

If I went with make or break for the Detroit Lions I would have broken a long time ago. They're always going to be my team (rain or shine) and Live is always going to be my band.

I love a lot of the Live library and the songs I love never get old. I enjoy the studio tracks and the various concerts I've accumulated over the years. If I get tired of the band I give it a break for a while but I always end up listening again.

If the new album completely sucks I'll still listen to the stuff I love and see them every summer when they come around as long as they do. They're my favorite band and they'll put on a good show.

Side Note - When V came out I was thinking "What the fuck, this blows". Honestly, in my personal opinion, one of the worst albums I have ever purchased. I hung around and bought every following album the day it was released without regard and will continue to do so hoping for the best and to be pleasently suprised.

People here may think otherwise but I actually like the 4 newest releases. I'm also glad SFBM came out because it gave me The River and Love Shines. I don't care what you think, those are some of my favorite Live songs and I listen to them a lot. I'm just greatful that my favorite band has been around this long and continues to tour and make music. With the effect they've had on my life I don't think they owe me anything, I see it the other way around.

the make it or break it for me is the want to hang on to a band that ive loved for so long and put out so much good work, the hope that they have it in them to do that once again .. but to again and again been disappointed with them in many ways ... so I think this is a point for me to see if they can surprise me and restore a bit of faith but another disappointment will pretty much break than and I guess I'll just give up on them.
