We're at the end of februari, the spring is coming, and Live's anounced new album is coming closer. With the first Live gigs of 2009 not too far away, we can start a thread about it, I think.

Post your news here!

In the februari edition of the magazine of the Dutch Free Record Shop, called Yource, there's a new recent interview with Ed. The magazine is stating that the new album will still coming out this summer. In the interview Ed didn't want to reveal too much about the sound of the new album, but only promised (like he did before) it will be really Forever-ish and Purifier-ish.
Also he revealed he's writing songs for it at the moment.

The interview can be found here, but it's in Ducth: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/20f33963#/20f33963/20

If the album is in fact coming out this summer(a big if), I wonder if the band will be hitting the studio directly after their shows in March? People need to be asking questions at these shows, so that the rest of us can get answers.

Aye, let's ask ask ask. I hope there are some darker, moodier songs on the new record. If it's all kind of like Forever and Purifier then that'll be an okay album, no doubts, but flicker in something like Ghost... something *like* that... and it could be... dare I say it... pretty damn good!

... you know, I've become more cynical and negative about Live since I signed up here. Fuckin' you lot, with your fuckin' influential mindsets. Fuckin' fuckers.

The verses of Night of Nights were a step in the right direction when talking about recreating the 'Ghost' feeling. too bad it was ruined a lill bit by the verses sad.gif

Well worded... this board has a way of bringing out the worst in the fans. If the band is looking, we actually like the music a whole lot and will take any opportunity to hear something as trite as Sofia - alternate lyrics. I know I'd give that a listen lol... even if I don't like SFBM.

Anyone else with me? Did you hate V and then download the beer down version of transmit a little while back?

why is asking for a bit of creativity "bringing out the worst in fans" ?

I'm saying we all love live enough to voraciously chow through ANY new material but we never actually sound like we like live after we keep starting threads like "worst lyrics ever" and "which member has no sense of fashion?"

Also, it sees the general trend on here is that everyone wants live to go back to something they have done before like the ghost sound mentioned earlier. I would love it if they did something radically different. Creativity would actually make me a bigger fan! Anything... a rap album, reggae, postmodern key jangling, didgeridoo, Ed trying to conduct a 55 piece 18th century orchestra! Surprise me live... do like Radiohead did with Kid A and change everything.

That's true ... I guess I just get frustrated at their current state because of how awesome they have been and I know they can be. Their first 4 (or for purely personal reasons 5) albums are just incredible and I'll love them forever ... can't ever deny that.

See creativity would definitely be a bonus, just trying new things .. like V, ok it failed but they still were thinking outside the box. I think the other side of the coin with people saying "i wish they would write something more akin to TC or SS era stuff" is because a lot of people believe that is just what they're best at. And they are.. I don't see it as living in the past, living in the past is playing the same old songs over and over, making new songs in the style they're best at are still new songs ... they're never going to sound like they did back then .. Ed's voice has changed too much for one thing so it would still sound new.

Either way, if Purifier is the direction they're heading in I'd still be interested .. a real bluesy rock album would be awesome, lots of jamming and hopefully some more writing credits to the rest of the band .. thats what they really miss.

CREATIVITY! Where has it gone? Purifier is a step in the right direction creatively, but we need some truly creative songs with good lyrics tacked on.

We need a 7 minute epic, an instrumental, a song without a chorus, a song that is straight up badass rock with something cool thrown in (some badass violin playing? It does exist!).

I think we need more background vocals, more kick ass bridges, some bass, a sexy guitar solo or 2, a drum solo, some more bluesy songs, tricky needs to rap in a song that you wouldn't think he would be in (like some acoustic song that picks up a little towards the end, and violins kick in and the instruments are roaring, and in the background he's rapping or something. If you've heard "Middle Man" by Bright Eyes you'll know what I'm talking about).

Ed needs to get pissed about something, and Live needs to let Patty D loose! Some PLotR bass playing, god we need that!

Read this Live! Read it! ^^That would make one badass record! rockin.gif rockin.gif rockin.gif

I'd just like to see some more veriety in the songs content .. back to earlier works each album seemed to cover quite a few different topics/views whereas now it seems like the same song done in different ways. A few songs about something other than love would be awesome.

Forever and Purifier were not about love in any general sense.

Forever was about overcoming adversity, while Purifier was about cleansing the soul.

I didn't say either of them were about love.. But they still have the overtones "I'll stay with you till the end of the storm" .. I get the overcoming adversity thing, but the general sense would be in a relationship.

you've gotta admit, in the last few years the majority of their songs compared to earlier work has been a bit single minded when it comes to topics. A bit more variety would just be nice for the new album. Songs like BOG, PLOTR, Selling the drama, Waitress, Freaks, Pillar, Hero.., WFG, hell even Rivertown .. just songs that are about .. hell for lack of a better term "things". With SFBM they really exhausted this avenue for awhile, well you'd hope so anyways.

Like I say though, Purifier is definitely a step in the right direction ... what would be awesome in concert would be if they were able to combine Purifier with God Don't Ever Change and make it one long song with a pure blues jam session in the middle ... stretch it out over 10mins altogether, that'd rock.

I can't wait for this album to come out, I still say it's the make it or break it album for me.
