Might as well let everyone here check out the old PTTSS issues from back in the day. For those of you who don't know, Pilgrimage to the Southern Stars was a weekly column I published on my website Good Pain Lies on the Riverside from May of 2000 until June of 2002. It was weekly for awhile, and I eventually lost focus (I believe marijuana is to blame) and dropped off completely. The idea of the column was to present a fake Live story just for laughs and entertainment. The name for the column was chosen after a rumour circulated in April or so of 1999 that the title for the next album (TDTH) was going to be Pilgrimage to the Southern Stars. So...sit back...there's a lot of reading ahead. Hopefully it's as entertaining to read as it was to write.

Omfg, this site is awesome!

Swami's Predictions of the Future of Live

It's funny how many things were predicted right though... The overly happy album is obviously SFBM but Pat didn't get Cancer. Were you high when you made this lol?

2000? I probably was not high. I was high during the entirety of 2002 - 2007 though. Hence, no PTTSS issues wink.gif

where did this rumour came from, if I may ask? was there really a moment Live considered to name TDTH as PTTSS ?

My memory of that rumour was a bit foggy, so I had to look back. I believe it was simply started by a fan on a message board or a chat system somewhere. The only info I could dig up about it was the following two news articles on my site:

Jan. 5th 1999 12:20pm - RUMOURS OF NEXT RELEASE

Okay, it is rumoured that Live's upcoming fourth album will be called 'Pilgrimage To The Southern Stars' and will be released on Tuesday the 8th of June, or Tuesday the 15th of June. Like I said, this is just a rumour, but if that is correct, then this'll be one Helluva summer holiday! Also, Stijn (webmaster of The Subculture Of Dreams website, and owner of the SOD mailing list) says that he has heard of it being released in April or May this year. I'll try my best to find information on this. I got this bit of information from Live-Web.

Jan. 6th 1999 12:16pm - RUMOURS ARE BULLSHIT

Okay, sorry to get you all hyped up for nothing. It's been confirmed by Jimmy Lang (owner of the official Live site) that these rumours of the forthcoming Live album being called 'Pilgrimage From The Sounthern Stars' and the release date and everything is FALSE. This is somewhat good, because the release date COULD be sooner than what had been rumoured. Live is still adding the finishing touches to the record. Mixing, dubbing, and what have you. So, don't be fooled if you hear of these rumours. It is NOT called 'Pilgrimage To The Southern Stars', and it is NOT scheduled for release on the 8th or 15th of June. I got this info from Live-Web.

So, all the stuff in those columns, like transcripts of phone calls...are all for laughs, yes? Not to be taken seriously?

With very few exceptions, yes. For example, the story of my Summer vacation in 2000 was true. Every word of it. The rest of PTTSS is for laughs, or it's dark satire regarding the then-declining state of Live's music.

so i take it this was a fake...its the back of the PTTSS cover art that was floating around at the time (cant find the front.) But its interesting that they got some of the design elements accurate; logo, bird...and the names of the the songs with a few that were later changed

This was a bootleg created (I believe by Michael Van den Bergh) after the release of TDTH and the singles from that record. The tracks on this bootleg are from an early demo of the album. This was not something Radioactive Records issued.
