QUOTE(ridley @ Nov 19 2008, 5:20 pm) *

Well, the frustration has finally got to me re: still no freakin Aussie release. aggressive.gif

After reading all the comments here I finally caved in and checked out a couple of the youtube vids which I had sworn I wasn't gonna do...

And my inital verdict based on these small pixellated glimpses? Surprisingly tres pleased! I've only watched I Alone and AOY so far but I actually didn't mind the quick-cut style editting in I Alone - really added to the drama of the song rockin.gif

As far all the criticism Ed's vocals have been copping - IMO they're much improved on the strained falsetto of the BOP/SFBM era shows (cough*Runaway*cough) - but seriously, what did people expect?!?! The TC-SS-TDTH days are long over, but I think he still manages to channel the intensity of some of those performances at times (Selling The Drama sounds partic-erly good).

On the other hand, I could do without the embarrassing "GOT! to have a two" crap no.gif

The most embarrassing moment though has to be at 2:32 of I Alone when he reaches out to grab a girl's hand and she doesn't grab back - "no-means-no style". I laughed my ass off laugh.gif

Just listened to the CD, thanks to amazon. Believe me, the songs sound different when listen to them on youtube or amazon samples, compared to listening to them loud on a hi-fi stereo. My reaction to this? Oh my God! This is fantastic, perhaps one of the best live releases ever. I do not agree with the criticism on Ed’s voice. Ed’s voice is great and much better than his voice in almost all songs off V, most songs off SFBM, and some songs off BOP. Thanks Live for this gold.

QUOTE(Badman @ Nov 19 2008, 4:22 pm) *

D: I just heard this... You couldn't be more correct. Pat was the only good thing in this song. He ruined his own lyrics by infusing them with christian feculence.

"Heard alot of talk about this jesus
a man of love a man of strength
but what a man was 2000 years ago
means a hell of a lot more to me today.

I know he was telling me about my higher self
and now he lives inside my prayer.
What he was was so damn beautiful
Baby I got to have me some more."

Dear God! This song is truly atrocious on this release.... I had been skipping it because I hated the too-fast pace they played it at, but I just listened to it completely for the first time.... wow!

While we're taking potshots at this song, here's another awful moment: when Ed prolongs "together" at the end of the second chorus... yikes!

Think I'll go rinse that out with the version from MTV Unplugged, my personal favorite.

well... ruined it?

I don't think there's anything wrong with the fact that Ed isn't afraid to admit that he thinks different about some things he wrote 18 years ago. Man that's so long ago. And after all: if there's anyone who is allowed to change the lyrics, it's ED, right? He wrote the song.

Live's DVD charted at #34 on the Billboard music DVD chart.

However, the CD looks like the album didn't chart on the Billboard top 200 album or Billboard top 50 independent albums charts this week. Not sure how limited in release the CD was, but it is kind of disappointing.

I just read this article and thought I'd share. Apologies if this isn't the correct place to be posting reviews. Here goes:

I was checking over the Billboard 200 again and found only 2 live concert albums on the entire chart. I'm guessing concert albums have passed their time in the US. Live perhaps would have been better off not wasting new material and perhaps just including unreleased tracks with the package. Not many bands release singles off of Live DVD/CD albums.

Maybe Live should include Forever and Purifer on album #8, so they could gain greater exposure. Goo Goo Dolls released their single on their live album, and again later on their next studio album.

That surprises me because I've been to the local Meijer, WalMart, Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, Borders, and Barnes and Noble and nobody even carried it at all. I ended up ordering it online.

I've only seen one copy of the DVD at FYE and have yet to find another. I'm thinking Vanguard sent very limited shipments of "Live at the Paradiso" out to retail stores. The majority of which are now sold out. I still have two DVD's to buy for Xmas....

It would be cool if more fans wrote a review for the DVD or CD at Amazon.com. There's only 3 reviews up there so far. If a bunch of new reviews show up, other casual fans might think 'I have to check this out'. The more I watch it, the more I like it.

...Speaking of the dvd, some of those Dutch girls are hotttt! eyebrow.gif Especially the girl who's shown at the very end right before the credits go up. I wonder if she posts here.

Best Buy had a couple copies of the DVD. It's up to the regional buyers at most stores to decide how many they want. My guess would be Vanguard didn't do a sales flyer or anything substantial to support the release. Since there was no marketing, there was no need to think there would be any demand and hence none was ordered.

Live at the Paradiso on the Charts:

Netherlands
CD #9 (down fron #2 in its second week)
DVD #5 (same as last week

Belgium
CD #46 (1st week)
DVD (unlisted because the chart only published the top 10)

United States
DVD #34

Does anyone know the chart position for South Africa? I think this DVD will do well in Australia with a little promotion. Let's hope we hear some info soon.

It is disappointing to know that some reviewers criticize Live for singing about love and living together – this what they call “preaching”. I have been a social scientist for years, particularly in the fields of sociology and anthropology of health, and what I have learned is that “social integration”, which mainly derives from sharing common values and from living together, is one of the most important protective factors for individual and social equilibrium and happiness. As I see it, Live’s lyrics does not preach, it just reflects on social reality. This is one of the reasons why I consider Live the best band ever – not only because Live writes beautiful songs but also because I see in Live’s songs what I see in the people I study every day.
