So?

Apologies for the delay in getting a reputation mod implemented. It was a little more complicated than I expected.

Anyway, I've installed one and had a quick test and everything seems to be working okay.

When you're reading a thread there will be a new tag under the poster's name called "Reputation". Next to that label will be a number (everybody starts with 10 reputation points). To the right is a green "+" button. Click on that button and you can then "add" or "subtract" from a person's reputation. There's a box where you can enter comments about a particular user, but that's only visible to admins (myself and Nick).

If you go into your Control Panel, you can see a list of people who have given you + or - reputation, along with their comments.

Thanks for the update, I love it thumbsup.gif

Well, Non admins can see a comment box so we can comment on why we are changing the rep. I dunno if that is intended but just so you know.

You're welcome.

Re: the comment box. Everybody has access to the box and everybody can add a comment. The comments you give to a particular user can only been seen by that user (when they go to their control panel) and by admins.

I'd like to get everybody's opinions on the rating system.

Currently when somebody approves/disapproves a post the number of reputation points that are added/subtracted are based on the following criteria.

1. The amount of time you've been registered.
2. The number of posts you have made
3. Your current reputation points.

What this means is that a user who has been registered for 5 years, has 1000 posts and has a current reputation of 600 will add/remove more points than somebody who registered last month, has 60 posts and only 20 reputation points.

Are you happy with this distinction or would you rather that everybody's vote be valued the same?

These are the settings that are available in the back-end:

Register Date Factor
For every X number of days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
Value: 365

Post Count Factor
For every X number of posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
Value: 500

Reputation Point Factor
For every X points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
Value: 500

Minimum Post Count
How many posts must a user have before his reputation hits count on others?
Value: 50

So, in the above example... the first 's vote would be worth: 9 points
and the second user's vote would be worth: 1 point

The values for each setting can be changed... Let me know your thoughts.

Great, Dan, thanks! Have not much time to read everything, but hey. The system can be as follows:

It shall start with 0 for everyone.

Every user shall change the reputation to not more than 3 users during 24 hours.
One user can change the reputation of another user once a week (the same user)
The points shall not depend on anything. Only 1 point per + or -

Just my thoughts.

Thanks a heap, bud! Looking great! Thank god my head sometimes has nice ideas lol.gif

This rep system is in use on another forum I frequent and they use thsoe default settings which work perfectly fine. They allow everybody's points to grow steadily instead of balloon straight away. I also don't believe people should see comments as they might be personal, and people shouldn't be able to "dissaprove" as that can (and was, on that other forum) be easily abused.

Having the reputation point factor reduced to 300 or so would be cool with me. 500 is too high. I agree with everything else.

i agree to Ed's Limit on the repeated repping up of someone but I don't think we should have an overall limit because then I will start to regret giving people rep and basically owing people rep in my own head bomb.gif

I also support the idea of a shoutbox. thumbsup.gif

Unfortunately, when I installed the mod it gave everybody 10 points by default.

Daily Reputation Clicks Limit
How many reputation clicks can a user give over each 24 hour period?
Value: 20

QUOTE(+Ed+ @ Nov 19 2008, 5:45 am) *
One user can change the reputation of another user once a week (the same user)
Can't be done. The only setting that relates to this is:
Reputation User Spread
How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again?
Value: 10

QUOTE(+Ed+ @ Nov 19 2008, 5:45 am) *
Oh and everyone shall see the comments of course.
Can't be done. You can only see the comments that other users have left about you.

QUOTE(+Ed+ @ Nov 19 2008, 5:45 am) *

This can be done. Is everybody in agreement?

Re: Shoutbox. I'll have look this weekend to see if I can find a compatible mod for this message board.
