I can see how you can view the cam as adding energy, I mean having it constantly moving and not stopping in one spot keeps the momentum going but I don't think that was a problem that needed to be addressed, at least given the nature of the performance, sure Ed's voice isn't at it's best and the setlist is stale, but you could get there is energy, just the audio alone proves that .... which brings me to another point I didn't think much of before but it was something Ex said in a different thread about singing the songs at a faster pace .... they rip through Dance with you faster than I have ever heard ... I don't dislike it or anything, but it's sure as hell different.

Yeah, I think I said before that I get the whole 'crazy cam' thing - I haven't seen the dvd in full yet but from the clips we've got I don't think its too bad - although one would hope for single camera views for reasonable periods in some songs - all the chopping for 90 minutes might not be so good.

On the faster songs - some bands do this but no idea why, I think it helps with AOY or other uptempo songs but I am dubious about it on Dance with you....

The energy is great though from what I've heard and seen.

from the clips available on youtube and the audio cd alone, you dont really get to experience this dvd. if you have to be brutal about it, it isnt the best 'vocal' performance from Ed for the most part. however, the other guys were amazing on the guitars and drums and together (including ed), i think once you watch this dvd on your TV, pc or HD LCD screens in 5.1 surround, you will at the end of the +- 85 mins feel reasonably satisfied with it.

i have many concert live performance DVDs and along with Pearl Jam and Queen, LIVE are just about the best concert DVD i own. this is just my opinion on it. but i'm sure every LIVE fan will have his/her own likes and dislikes about it - but that goes with every release. i think it's a great DVD - you can see that it meant a lot to the band and the people associated in putting it together.

again, I am disappointed by certain songs being cut off the final production - there's probably reasons - whatever those are we don't know and will have to respect. The majority of us on these boards have all the cds and have seen LIVE perform on stage - we know them as a band - we know them by their music and lyrics - we know them by their energy. We've followed them down whatever emotional road they've taken us by bonding so close with their music over the years. I think this DVD is a tribute, if you will, to the people they are and to their music - and if you watch it a few times, you will feel that transcend through to the people who were at that event at Paradiso that night. For me, apart from the setlist, I'm pleased with the DVD as is. Maybe released it as a 2 disc DVD/CD set woulda been more convenient, but no complaints all the same.

One thing I absolutely dig is Pat's bass on Operation Spirit, that is Pat purely channeling Pat circa 1992 right there!

Pat needs to give the others a break and just carry on Live on his own for awhile ... play all the instruments and sing and go on tour by himself using one of those one man band things

I'm thinking something like "Live: The Pat Dahlheimer Experience"

I just saw the DVD...

I've been more negative than positive since V, but must admit that the DVD is great. Sound is perfectly balanced despite a lack of guitars sometimes. Pat's bass is the key to the music of this band. He has always covered in concert for Chad T.'s lack on guitars and that's ok like that. All concert long we hear some nice licks between verse and chorus, between chorus and bridge, etc.

Ed's voice has been discussed over and over since the DVD came out. Well I was surprised with the quality of it. No, he can't sing like in mental jewelry's days, like Vedder doesn't sing like Ten's days. He doesn't try to reach the stupid high notes and that's why a song like Dance with you, not a favorite of mine, is great on this show. Well, we see Ed a bit too often and Chad G. not long enough, but it is really minor. I was smiling all show long.

It almost forgives the omission of not taping the encores. Of course after watching Dance with you I wanted more, knowing they played WD, Waitress, Iris and Shit Towne after that (or before I don't know the setlist by heart of the show).

I don't know since when they put playbacks (the strings) on Lakini's Juice. I know they are using some on Sofia and maybe a few others. I was totally against that before, but now most of the bands are using it. It doesn't alter the band's performance. So nice DVD and glad to add it to my Live collection.

I think Badman was putting the guys in order of most talented to least talented.

Yeah, I was at work so little time to explain.

On a completely different topic, I was a fool to order from Lives site. Not only did it cost me like 32 bucks but I STILL haven't gotten my package yet. angry.gif

There's something wrong there. Somebody from New Zealand received theirs on Nov 17 and it was postmarked Nov 6. Be sure to let us know the postmarked date when it finally does arrive.

I ordered a CD/DVD combo from BOL.com (Dutch store) on the 12th of November and it arrived at my door on the 17th.

Yeah, I guess it's me, but I actually never noticed Live using playback on the background except for Overcome. Ofcourse until 2002 they used the keyboards for it, but that was different.
The first time I noticed something on the background aside from Overcome was with Mystery(iieeehiieeeyyy). But now on this DVD I also noticed it on Lakini's Juice (as alexou mentioned) and Turn my Head. Maybe there are even more?
