You'll all see in four years that it doesn't matter how intelligent the president is, how calmly he can deliver a speech, or how many ideas he's willing to consider if his or her ideas aren't good. I pretty much exclusively converse with my colleagues who are all extremely intelligent young professionals, and I wouldn't trust a word more than 75% of them say. Intelligence is multi-faceted, and you have to vote for the facets that matter, even though those may not be the most apparent. It's amazing how people really key in on ridiculous facts and personality issues with candidates, because ultimately it comes down to their fundamental ideas for how to fix our problems. Obama always calmly and intelligently details a plan that taxes corporations, wealthy small businesses and wealthy individuals more in order to save the middle class a little money each year. As I explained earlier, this is not good policy. I still fail to see how taxing the employers more is going to make it better for employees (eg the middle class). McCain can stumble and bumble all he wants, but his ideas are better for helping the economy.

Let me try to illustrate a point. How many of you know at least three things used by the mass media to make fun of Palin? Hockey mom, joe six pack, you betcha? Not too hard?

How many of you know which of the two candidates promises a balanced budget by the end of his term?

Ron Paul is a pretty smart candidate, without a doubt the most patriotic. He is truly our best option, but unfortunately a pipe dream. I contributed to his campaign and to no others, though.

I'm surprised, but pleased to see that we agree on something.

QUOTE(Merica @ Oct 14 2008, 6:37 pm) *

Another point regarding McCain, he said "I know how to do this, I know how to do that" etc far too much, like we should just trust him because he's old and served in the navy. I dunno, I know I'm bashing him but that was the first proper video I'd seen of him (having only read lots of quotes prior), and he didn't come off well at all. Seriously, seemed pretty senile and not at all like the kind of man who's going to revamp the country for the better. Obama was cool, calm, collected and seemed sure of what his intentions are. McCain rambled far more, often reverting to "we're are Americans, we can do this", he might as well have said like "seriously guys, come on, give me a chance, I know I'm old but I can do this, I can! Pleeeease let me be president."

And I don't care what you say about the advancements in health care, Ex, because if he dies, Palin is president and FUCK ME SIDEWAYS that is a scary prospect. I really think they've hired her just to gain the God Squad and dumb women in the country, and given her cue cards to fumble her way through questioning. She's pathetic, utterly, completely and in all other ways pathetic.

In terms of policies, Obama owns McCain on foreign policy, in my opinion. Yup, shocking because people say that's Obama's weak point, but Obama intends to try and build bridges with our enemies, and look for resolution in a reasonable, diplomatic manner and THEN resort to other means. McCain doesn't seem to even know that kind of option exists. "Speak quietly, tread quietly, carry a big stick" he says, so okay, don't let anyone know what you're thinking or doing and then FUCK UP A COUNTRY RAAAGH RAGGH TAKE THAT YOU NON-AMERICANS WE ARE AMERICANS WE RULE USA USA USA USA!!!!

Obama supports abortion whilst McCain is completely backwards on it, and Palin doesn't even understand the concept of Roe vs Wade. I can't believe Palin, honestly, it MUST be the biggest joke or DOUBLE CROSS ever, like they're either kidding with this and that'd be serious LOLZ, or she's eventually come out as a fucking pro. My thoughts? It's neither, she's just a dumb bitch, and the whole thing is absurd.

Financially, McCain didn't explain how he'd pay for anything, whilst Obama explained how he'd save money by eliminating failing regimes and re evaluate the spending costs, redirecting the money and working from that (this may be a shaky point here, can't remember exactly).

I don't think McCain would actually do anything besides continue the rest of world's notion that Americans are self loving and self important cunts. Obama wants to change that, really change America, change the world's perception of America...he's just got the better, positive idealogies and the cool, assured smarts to get it done. McCain is an old fashioned doddery war monger who's too convservative to give the country the revamp, and image revampe that it needs.

Obama > McCain

EDIT - One thing both candidates actually failed on was answering questions directyl enough and sticking in the time limit. I was also dissapointed with the format of the debate, they answered questions...but only once actually engaged properly and like fought verbally...needed more of that...

And yeah this is a pretty strong and wild post really.....but I don't know.....

I didn't read the whole thread, but I'm pretty confident this is the best post in it. rockin.gif

In defence of myself, that post is maybe not the best post in terms of being reasonable and level head and what have you; but I watched that debate and those are the points I drew and stand by. I'd be happy for anybody to politely go through my points and refute them if they wish, seriously, the entire thing is fascinating, I love to learn more.

Exist is playing a game that many disillusioned young people like us play. After seeing everyone following one thing... be it an idea, religion, or political idea, we veer away from it. It is part of the "defining yourself" that comes from being in college. When Exist sees everyone getting glossy eyed over the Obama fad, he is disgusted and rebels to McCain.

Obama = Fad for young people
McCain = Fad for old people.

I can be fairly certain that as he ages, if he keeps this up, he will settle to more liberal candidates as he seems like a really intelligent person. Studies show that the more intelligent you are the more likely you are to vote liberally or progressively. As soon as he figures out who he is he will settle into place. He will most likely make a length response to this trying to convince you that I don't know what I am talking about but the only one he is trying to convince is himself laugh.gif
