Wow, I don't want to give them too much praise for the song because it isn't that outstanding, but it's pretty awesome that Live still sorta has it. This is a pretty money track I think, without question their most radio friendly song since TDC, and for the first time in 7 years I think Live has a legit single out there with what should be a good DVD to go with it. This is 17 years after their MTV debut, and a really fucking long run. It's been interesting and hopefully it doesn't stop anytime soon, but I have to admit I am pretty excited that they actually have a good new song. If Purifier is good also and could be a legit second single, this could be a big deal for Live with a major tour and album next year.

I think it has radio potential. It's still their "new" lovey gay sound, but it sounds like they've discovered how to incorporate a little bit of the angst and passion of old into this sound for once. All in all, I have to say that I'm pretty impressed. It's not their best song or any indication of a return to their former genius, but it certainly isn't an embarrassment either. Very nice!

huh... shrug.gif confusing. Ex said something quite nice about Live, and it was about 2008-stuff. No this is not possible... I gonna read that again... huh.gif

hehe no but serieus,. I agree with most of you that this is a nice song.
- First time playing it I was really impressed. It isn't a rock-song as I wished, and the music itself isn't really Live...but on the other hand I think this is maybe better than anything since BoP and maybe better than some songs of that album. Negative is that it's still poppy, but it has something, dunno, that is very good. And Ed voice was really good! This good be the best single since Heaven? smile.gif

I think it's definitely the best single since TDC.

I too gotta admit it isn't terrible, certainly better than anything on SFBM and a great deal of BOP and V, Ed has a bit of growl in his voice, doesn't try to do anything too wanky... I agree with someone else saying that it really could be session players though, there is something that just isn't quite Live about it. But that being said it's still a step in the right direction.

Session players = a Christian praise band.

lol.gif

Seriously though, the drums just really don't sound like Live, not that I'm saying Gracey DIDN'T play it. Just that his style was even still prevalent on SFBM but here it could just be any old drummer. The same could be said for the guitars too, and the bass, well, who has been able to hear the bass since BOP anyway...

Definitely nowhere near as bad as the river though. I think my biggest complaint is that when the chorus kicks in it is the exact same feel as Mystery, ESPECIALLY in the drums and guitar. The song has seem really great melody stuff happening but the music just comes off as kinda bland.

Funny. When I started paying attention to all the instruments one by one, I noticed that it is 100% Gracey drumming lol.gif

The chorus doesn't quite feel powerful enough, would have been nice if they really kicked it up a gear because I think that would have still fit the song well, im thinking something like "Show" .. but, done right..

You know what? I posted the news and then had a house full of people. When I got back to look here, you can imagine my reaction. I was called a whore, no one believed me etc, fine.
I should know better than to let people hurt me anyway.

I was just honestly trying to share good news.

And you know what? You know I'm telling the truth coz I posted the lyrics to the first chorus before Live put the song on their streaming thingy on MySpace and JSax got it. I'm not a trouble maker, I'm not a bad person, and I didn't deserve what I got.

I was just trying to share something good. That was all.

I have uploaded the shitty version I got yesterday.

Forever cel recording

If any one had bothered to ask, I was in my car and heard them advertise the song....you know...coming up in three minutes is the new single fro the Band live....blah blah, so I recorded it on my cel phone.

Even I thought I had heard wrong, and then there it was, they were on the radio with a new single and Ed was in my frigging car! I was so excited.

The I shared the news, did what I had to and then, to come back onto this board and find that sort of bashing...well yeah, it hurt like hell.

Then I get told to stop acting like a crybaby??? As for ex and his "Thank god Shadow will never get credit for this" crap. I don't want credit. Never did. I have never caused shit on this board.

Please remember that I live in SA and our time difference is huge. I have children to fetch from school, a dying father and a huge amount of responsibility in between. Never mind work. I also need to sleep.

Secret Insomnia, none of this was directed at you or Rob, or anybody who asked legit questions about the song. You and I have never had a disagreement and please, I am not a people hater etc, I can't even remember what else you said.

This is only my third post in this thread. The rest of it was NOT me. It was about me and the fact that I'm withholding the single.

That wasn't fair.

None of this was fair.

It's done and over. I just can't understand why people are so ugly. I truly don't.

I think I just realised why this song instantly endeared itself to me rather than repulsed me like the last umpteen Live songs have ... the lyrics are actually kinda cool, none of this "You're a (something), just like a (something)" .... I was getting really tired of Ed's lyrics just being similes, it reeked of lazy uncreative writing and this song is completely void of that which is awesome.

On the drums, there are a number of reasons why it's just not usual Gracey:

1. The first verse drums are extremely standard Larry Mullins Jr. of U2 type drumming. Gracey is heavily influenced by Mullins, but usually not this much. Other than a few fills there's just not much happening drum wise in the song.
2. The drum sounds lack a lot of the usual punch found in usual Live drum sounds, even in SFBM. It just doesn't feel right, I realize it's a different studio session but I'm just used to Gracey having bigger tom sounds. The snare sounds good though.
3. While there are fills where you can tell it's Gracey's style, there is not the usual Live guitar riffs following the syncopation of the drumming. Even songs from SFBM had this (Home, Night of Nights, etc. etc.). That sound of Taylor following Gracey's fills is a big part of much of Live's music, but here there's just not much to follow.

I don't think that they had studio musicians play this, that would be an idiotic thing to say. However there is not much of what makes the Chads unique in this song, making it sound less like Live and more like a generic pop/rock band.

The production though is much more solid than SFBM, which I like. Do we know if Chad Taylor recorded and produced this?

Jeez you'd think by her age she'd have learned how to deal with unfair situations better than that! But seriously, I feel bad. She obviously is emotionally fragile and I wouldn't be surprised if she cried for hours over this. Oh well.

I learned how to play drums based off of Gracey's awesome drumming, so I had to comment on this post.

1. The fill at 2:27 is VERY Gracey, as is the fill at 2:50 and 3:10. The first half of the song is very Mullen-ish, I agree (tom riding, etc), but in the last half Gracey basically "opens" up in true Gracey form before going back to the Mullen-ish ending.

2. I agree that the toms aren't brighter, but I think that's because he's using the tom to the left of his snare to "ride" for the intro and end, rather than the high tom above his snare. This could also be something that the producer did on purpose and I'm also curious as to who produced it. I know that Taylor's company produced the DVD... maybe they did the CD too.

3. I agree about Taylor and Gracey's parts not being very together. Maybe that was part of the design of the song? It's a straight up pop-rock song with "single" written all over it.

4. It seems that Gracey does a lot of bass drum fills, especially in the second verse, which I really like.

I do like the song. smile.gif
