QUOTE(Badman @ Oct 5 2008, 12:02 pm) *

What does that say about a band when all their success is behind them? I'd find it really depressing if I were a band with a greatests hits cd released. I can only think of 3 bands that did decently for new stuff after the greatest hits.

Oh yeah, the new metallica album sucks to top it off. If you don't believe me, listen to the unforgiven, Unforgiven II and then Unforgiven III and you tell me what I should expect.

The Unforgiven I and especially The Unfogiven II sound way more popp-ish yeah (just like the whole Load and Re-Load era). Does less-poppish make it harder for you to find a song 'good' then? nervous.gif
anyway, I'm not a real Metallica fan, but know all their stuff quite well, and all I say is that changing their producer worked well and their new album is the best in 15 years. Simple as that.

In a way yes? cool.gif

I like a balance. For me, Metallica started with Master of Puppets and half of the songs were good.
Every song on And justice for all was good and Black every song was GREAT. They supposedly became more poppy with black but it made it more accessible to me who was used to GnR at the time.

Then came Load which had like 2 good songs... no.gif

Live started off with a balance, somewhere between rock and pop but now all we have is pop as we all complain about the lack of balance the band has. What could be said about both bands is that they lack inspiration. I think they need to get high or go to india or something... well... maybe Metallica shouldn't go to India lol

i really dig metallicas new cd. I never was a fan of theirs and certainly not of thrash metal, but something possessed me to buy the album and ive been pissing off all my neighbours since then. And its also comforting to see that a band can reclaim some respect form an embittered fanbase some 20 yrs after alienating people. If metallica can recover from the tragedy that was st. anger, then live can also recover from V

No doubt about it, Live can recover. They just need to release all their outtakes and call it a new album! banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif

I don't doubt that Chad's intentions are good, and perhaps his efforts are contributing to the local scene there in Lancaster which I wasn't aware of, but still, it's frustrating that they put such little effort into Live anymore.

I completely agree with you that the band began to go to hell when Ed moved to California, and maybe the rest of the guys realize that without his devotion to the band, there's no point in devoting themselves. It's a shame, really. For such honest and nice people, they really were pretty badly corrupted in a strange way by the money and fame.

Ah come on. They were popular back in 1994. Do you mean they are corrupted nowadays? Hardly.

Muahahha when I saw this title I LMFAO for a good 5 minute break. I am sorry to say you are right. The album is purely horrible.

Thank god there are dozens of great new albums this year by other artists.

haha it's really stupid to call metallica's new album horrible.

you can like Metallica (or metal in general), or you can dislike it. But you don't know much about music if you think their recent album is bad compared to their previous 3 studio albums.
And judging the quality of a song on its title? lol.gif wtf? even more stupid.

Used to respect you. Right up to this very moment.

You do not know what I am talking about and still you laugh at my words.

Fuck you.

I know half of Metallica's albums by heart. And let me tell you to fuck right off before you try and prove something to me, as you can hardly get the point of the very discussion.

I think you have a point there: a strong producer! I know that people go like: "it only effects their sound a little, it's them making the music, not the producer!" when you talk about it. But I think a GOOD and STRONg producer can really play a role when producing bands that lost theirselves or lost their roots (I'm not stating that Live has lost it, but allright). A producer that kicks bandmembers ass and says: "stay focussed! Look at this! Don't stop till it's perfect", can make a difference. For example, Rick Rubin forced Metallica by recording the recent album to listen to their first 4 albums. The result was their best album (in my opinion) in the last 15-20 years. But ofcourse, it's the bands descision to choose a producer that really effects the record, or just walks in now and than and just produces it a little.

So, go into the studio and listen to your 4 albums made in 1991-1999 including b-sides!

Well, I've always been a big advocate of trying to get Jerry Harrison back together with Live, but I've heard rumors that him and Ed didn't get along so well.

I had begun to wonder if maybe it was some kind of fluke that Jerry Harrison produced Live's best albums, but that changed after I listened to The Pink Spider's Teenage Graffiti. Jerry produced one song on that record that I thought was easily the best song on there ("Hey Jane").

To be fair, I think Chad Gracey was the first to move away from the rest of the band.

I think Ed is/was very devoted to the band, so much say that if you look at the credits on all the recent albums its indicated Ed has written the music and the lyrics (there are a couple standout songs that include credit to other band members), the earliest albums credited the entire band for at least the music. Maybe, the problem is the rest of the band isn't able to provide enough input or maybe doesn't care to?

yeah, Harrison as producer for the next record would be my first choice too, but as you stated, it's doubtfull that he will ever return, after doing 3 of their first 4 releases, and than didn't return for 3 releases. if they wanted him back, I think he would have done one of the latest records already. By that: does the man still produce bands at all?
