Because the bridge I hear in this song is pretty fucking good. Better than any bridge in any Live song since TDTH at least. I

This song has a bridge? I thought a bridge was the section of the song that takes the lyrics back to the chorus. While the Yeah x4 part does do that he only does it once and I thought you had to have a bridge before every chorus if you were going to have one. Before the first chorus there is no bridge... it just kinda jumps in.

Example:

Lyrics:

naked lovers feel the blood beneath their veins
electric nerves communicate
with tiny explosions through our brains
who is this energy that never left or came?
give rise to passion the only glory
of this human story

Bridge:

I give my heart and soul to the one

Chorus:

we spend all of our lives goin' out of our minds
looking back to our birth, forward to our demise
even scientists say, everything is just light
not created, destroyed but eternally bright
masters in everytime lord in everyplace
those who stood up for love down in spite of the hate
in spite of the hate

This song isn't going to get promoted by live... you can't have a single from a movie soundtrack without album backing... unless it was some epic movie like Titanic or something.

They have been plenty of singles off of movie soundtracks. Live could also release the song on its DVD/CD andas well on the Zack and Miri soundtrack and promote it that way.

The song should be a single, whether it will be is another matter entirely.

Not contributing to the flame-war at all... just want to clarify.

What you're talking about (in the example above) is a pre-chorus. Bridges are quite different thematically and usually don't repeat more than once in a song. That said, there are a number of ways bridges can be manipulated formally and used in different ways and there is no single way to define it. The easiest way to identify a bridge is to listen for contrasting musical material (most of the time in a different key or different chord progression) that reflects on what's come before, and will lead back into a chorus (usually). However, in the case of Hold Me Up, it actually leads into a guitar solo. There is no singular formula. It also usually features a different vocal melody from a verse or chorus.

The bridge in Hold Me Up starts at 1:46 "Images we cannot leave behind"

I'd agree with this. Look at Lenny Kravitz's cover of "American Woman" from the Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me film. Huge tune. Never officially released on a Lenny Kravitz record beyond a bonus track on a later edition of a record.

Alright thanks, Just wanted to better understand what a bridge was. That was a detailed enough post.

If no one else has said it, what a provocative title for the thread!

Some of you guys are a riot. You go around calling people "fan boys" and then get all excited about an old so so song that everyone already has heard and call it the next great single. It might have been a sub par single 12 years ago with the momentum of TC, but not today.

It's not great - It doesn't suck. It's an alright song with a bridge that doesn't flow, just like I said the first time.

In fact, if I recall correctly, there was a thread here a while back asking what the best unreleased Live song was and I don't even remember anyone even mentioning it in the conversation. Now it's the shit.

If you disagree with my opinion more power to you - I don't care. Your disagreement, however, doesn't make your opinion correct. It just lumps it with mine. Some people here don't realize this or you just like to act like your stance is factual in your argument to try and prove others wrong. You should be presidential candidates! Many people would fall for it.

Special thanks to everyone who incorrectly clarified what a bridge is or questioned my knowledge - you have no idea. Also thanks to the one who set it straight. victory.gif

Agreed. The song is cool but to call it a potential single is fucking laughable.

It is a potential single, period. Not excited about it at all, unlike Hoodstock while watching his Richard Simmons video collection. It's a better than average Live tune and better than any song they've released in over 10 years.

As for you Hoodstock? You know nothing about music. You call out an entire post about how our opinions mean nothing, yet excentuate yours like it is the word of Jesus. Like you know something and we don't....funny thing is, that's precisely what I find hilarious. You've proven you know nothing about music, that's FACT. Ignore it all you want.

I paralell your opinion to that of a terrorist. It makes no sense and has absolutely no intrinsic value whatsoever. Your inane ramblings remind me of somebody who is completely off their rocker. The laughable part is that you're convinced that what your saying at any time makes any kind of sense.

Bottom line? My opinion DOES mean more than yours ever will. You're uneducated and a sorry excuse for a human being. I pity you and a society that gains any sort of acceptance for your kind.

SO, while this song is no Lakini's Juice, it would make a decent single. Certainly better than anything since TDC from TDTH, that's all I was saying. Don't continue to use your retardation to turn it into anything but.

Agreed that it'll be the best single since TDC, but it also won't be riding on the coat tails of TC and the whole alt rock scene like even the TDTH singles were. I don't know about radio in other countries, but I can safely say this song won't get anywhere on US charts. It'll do about as well as The River. It's still a ballin song though.

Ballin, haha. lol.gif

Also, you mean "best single since TDC" in terms of the actual song itself right - not chart performance?
