Can't wait to add this to my Rarities CD. I just couldn't bring myself to put the poor quality one we have now on there. Now I only have Susquehanna to pine for.

I like the poor versions of Lift/Hold Me Up, they're good. The TC demo is really good, and then the crappy live recording I still really like. The crackly, poor sound adds to the character of it. Like it's a real discovery, this little unreleased gem!

The one from the TC demo is so good though... I think it is perfect.

Finally - good news. Thanks for the update!

For those that haven't seen them here's the lyrics (according to this site):

Hold me up in the palm of your hand
Lying to you is a river of sin
Your metaphores, your silent calls
Your feelings are too real
Let them spew, a fall from grace
Would do us good today

I'll lift you up, we can't live or cry
Hey, I'm in love, I'll take you up again
Oh, oh...

All that to you in a church by the sea
We're late, but not in the same way
We're older today

I'll lift you up, we can't live or cry
Hey, I'm in love, I'll take you up again
Your eyes have too many colours and (I can't only?) try
Your energy could be runnin' low, now
Juice is dry
Oh, oh...

Images we cannot leave behind
Like two rivers' eyes we roll back
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!

Lift me up
In the palm of your hand
Lying to you is a river of sin, oh...
Your metaphores, your silent calls
Your feelings are too real, oh...
Let them spew and fall from grace
With your love you had today, oh, oh hey...

I do have to say in regards to the talk in this thread that this is some magically with held single from SS that I don't think this song would have ever been a true single (unless there is a different version than what I have). It's a very good song and I can see how portions of it could be used in a powerful way in a movie, but from start to finish it's not a single. The refrain is solid but the guitars and cord progression are average and the bridge (in my opinion) doesn't seem to flow with the rest of the song and actually detracts from it.

If the bridge is altered, however, it could be a different story.

This is great news, it's about time.

I wonder though, did the band have to give consent or was it just the label that needed to give it? I would hope they finally just realized that no one else is knocking on the door, this is a cool way to get some promotion.

Anyway, after 13 friggin' years the excuses were getting pretty thin. The only theoretical excuse they could have used this time around was that they were going to use it as the anchor for a bonus disc for a Throwing Copper 15th Anniversary edition next year. (Hey that would be cool if they did that to, don't forget Susquehanna, Photograph, etc).

Knowing the fans luck with this song, something will happen and the song will get nixed from the soundtrack.

QUOTE
I’m still a big fan of Live, but I have to admit, there’s an intensity to the song that doesn’t seem to exist in any of the band’s recent material.

WOW, this statement perfectly sums up Live's studio records these days. Who knows, maybe this will light a fire under them.

I just checked on friendsoflive.com's forum to see what ppl over there were saying about this.....the only response was that a couple of them couldn't wait to hear the song. Can't wait to hear the song? What kind of fan doesn't have hold me up?

If we're talking about the well circulated mp3 version....I would interpret it as "hear" the song not like you're a foot or two underwater...or like Ed is gurgling..or both smile.gif

A good clear and well mixed track will be almost like hearing it for the first time to me (except knowing already that I really like it).

Heck, even the short Mallrats clip from the DVD sounds like it's coming from an audiophile system comparatively speaking.....

Ok, my memory of the clips sound quality seems better than what it actually is. However, I think the vocal is still much clearer:

11 second clip

Unlike the crappy low quality mp3 floating around, I encoded this one at the lame best -b 320 bitrate.

The crashing sound at the beginning of the clip makes a lot more sense visually smile.gif I thought about youtubing the clip but didn't have time tonight, maybe tomrrow.

Anyway, it might just be how distorted the original mp3 is, but this clip actually sounds like a slightly different take.

Swami learned before that Kevin had lost the tape which had Hold Me Up. Kevin obviously has the song now. Swami should get in touch again.

thank you very much for uploading this for us. I agree with you that this recording clip isn't as clear as everyone always stated that the clip in Mallrats was, but guess that also has to do with you recording it from the movie or dvd. But you don't have to listen very good to hear that the 'under water sound' in Ed's voice is deff. gone! So I guess we'll here a decent difference in the version used in Porno.

Not to be inflammatory, but again, I totally disagree with you. It just seems that every single thing you say makes me laugh out loud. You talk like a guy who thinks he knows what he's talking about, but it's completely obvious you haven't a clue. My guess is that you never actually completed grade nine.

First off, name one single LIVE song where the chord progression and guitars are anywhere near ABOVE average? Just one song, PLEASE. Because there are none. The guitar work is average everywhere you look, on any level, on any song.

Second, do you have any clue what a bridge is? Do you know where it is in this song? Because the bridge I hear in this song is pretty fucking good. Better than any bridge in any Live song since TDTH at least. It's classic Live with Ed screaming "yeah yeah yeah yeah" Followed by some decent guitar work, leading beautifully back into the chorus. Saying this detracts from the song just makes me laugh out loud, again.

You are entitled to your opinions, but then again, so is just about everyone. The thing is, some people simply make no sense whatsoever and to me, you are one of those people. I sincerely feel sorry for your children if you ever have any. It's a laughing shame that people like you are actually allowed to vote. So many of you leads to an utter moronic idiot like Bush being elected.

This is a great song that REEKS of single potential.
