I still disagree...how is it so hard to believe that somebody would come out and play a gig in front of 30,000 people, just because they truly believe in a candidate? In the US, whether or not you agree with him, Barack Obama has been surprisingly able to bring out major celebrities (actors, musicians and sports figures) to support him. In Russia it might well be different, but at least here, I spoke to EK backstage at the Las Vegas show, we had a great discussion regarding Obama and why he supports him.

I'm a PR executive for a major film studio and am quite well versed in how people are paid to do things in which they do not believe. At the same time, I have been able to secure major talent to come out to support causes they have never even thought about, but did so because it was good PR for them or they just thought it was a nice thing to do. We did not pay them a dime. People are so sick of Bush here, it has created almost a new feeling of hope and people are much more involved than they were.

Seriously though, if Ed was not willing to come out on his own, or at least for a very small amount, they clearly would have paid to get somebody more well known or more popular.

Maybe it just is US... But I doubt it... Anyway, nice point of view, supported by the facts! Thanks! thumbsup.gif

Thought it would be a great time to bump this thread after Obama accecpted the party nomination tonight!

Obama Rips Bush’s ‘failed policies’

"Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois accepted the Democratic presidential nomination Thursday night, declaring that Sen. John McCain of Arizona, his Republican opponent, was not up to the task of resolving America’s economic and foreign policy problems."

Not that it matters but I'm glad Ed and I agree on this!

Obama sucks. Only in a country dumb enough to "elect" Bush (read: make it close enough that both elections could be stolen) could we be dumb enough to elect Obama. I'm proud to be an American -- should I vote for Barack Hussein Obama, the poster child of affirmative action who is the model bullshitter, or John McCain, the war hero who spent almost six years in a war prison for this country. Gee, let me think.

Last time I checked being a prisoner of war did not automatically qualify you for president. I'm more concerned about the policies they present.

You are entitled to your opinion but my vote will definately contradict it.

P.S. - Bush actually wasn't originally elected by the "dumb" people.

Not really. Your vote will count in Michigan and mine will count in Florida, thus making my vote worth a higher percentage of electoral college votes. banana.gif

bomb.gif I'm well aware of how the system works. I never said they would nullify, I said they wouldn't agree!

I assumed you meant counteract instead of contradict, since I don't really think votes are capable of "contradicting." Whatever, let's elect McCain and get it over with.

McCain might be the most dishonest panderer we've had as a presidential candidate in YEARS.

Obama is an asshole. All those people around him asking for some money, some fucking change, and he is turning his back on them.

They're all full of shit. Obama and McCain are just the tip of the political bullshitting iceberg. If you're voting for a candidate based on who you think is more honest, you shouldn't be voting.

Well absolutely .. most people who are getting swept up in Obamamania cant seem to even tell you anything about his policies or what he stands for, they spit out the bullshit words like Peace, Change, Hope .. true Obama is an excellent public speaker with more charisma than any politician that comes to mind in recent years in the US or otherwise, but its slightly worrying that most people don't seem to really know a thing about him other than he's black.

Not that I have much of a say, not being American and all, but its interesting to keep an eye on it, if any country overseas other than England and China is going to have an effect on Australia its the US ... can't say I'm a massive McCain fan though but .. yeah.

Australia recently shot itself in the foot so to speak, we had our own little Obama in Kevin Rudd pop up at the last election ... he was the voice of hope and change to overthrow John Howard, but since he took office last November I think he's spent more time out of Australia "promoting Australia" to other countries than actually being here and doing shit. He made lots of promises and so far only followed through with one major one which was apologising to the aboriginal community. Not to say the other stuff won't be done but for all the hype it's been a little underwhelming as to what he's actually achieved since.

Nicely said, Pokey. I agree totally -- Obama uses campaign tactics that are eerily similar to those used by Bush, albeit with a positive message. Still, the guy reeks of shit, is known to be dishonest himself, and is going to tax the balls out of me for no good reason. Fuck him.

Very well stated. Resembles the start of Putin's "crowning period" perfectly as well.
