To be honest, I don't really want to meet the band, or any of the celebs I like for the reason of my perception possibly changing towards them.

First post for me - HOWDY ALL!

Anyhow, having meet/seen/partied with the band after concerts before (mid 90's) the rest of the band had always been very accesible and nice.

Ed would usually hole up in the back or be in a private area away from the rest of the fans & band. I've been told by the other band members that "he's shy" so I speculate that has a lot do with it.

If I was him I don't think I'd drop everything, everytime someone wanted my attention. You can't. You'd have no control in your life. Everyone has their moments too where you don't want to be bothered by anyone.

So, Ahole? I don't think so.

My 2 1/2 cents.

QUOTE(Pokey @ Mar 24 2006, 9:34 am) *

Gracey seemed very shy, polite and friendly, but moved on very quickly ... he was the only guy that actually introduced himself to me though which was funny. He kind of walked up behind me and says "Hey I'm Chad Gracey" .. I felt like asking him if he wanted me to sign anything for him.

Ric Flair is a grumpy old man though that is majorly overrated tongue.gif

Carlito, Eugene and Trish, now there are some friendly dudes, even if Carlito kept telling me how awesome he was.

i wasn't there, but would suspect Carlito was doing his 'i'm awesome' bit as a way of staying in character without poorly representing the company.

i interned for wwe back in '99 (attitude era, baby) and The Rock went well beyond the call of duty in regard to fans and everyone else in general. Vince, Stephanie, and Linda were also very nice. Shane was 'Ed-reserved'. :-P

All kidding aside, though, in Ed's defense, many might recall that Throwing Copper's success really brought a lot of unneccessary drama into his life. Some of you probably remember the stories of people wandering into his backyard looking for a fight. I would imagine he put up a huge wall after that (i know i would).

That said, I'll concur that when I met him, he really was aloof. Not mean necessarily... just reserved. Very reserved. Chad Gracey, on the other hand, is legendary for always being the nicest of the bunch. I know the few times I met him, he was just so open and friendly.

In the end, some people (rockstar or not) simply aren't "people persons". No big deal, that's just the way it is.

Carlito was kinda in character/kinda not, I was standing for a picture with him and I complimented him on his match that night (with masters vs hbk and big show) and he went all "hell yes I was awesome tonight wasn't I?" but besides that he was cool, pun intended tongue.gif

QUOTE(SJN1279 @ Mar 24 2006, 2:44 pm) *

Yeah, I'm shy, polite and friendly and would move on pretty quickly too. I think that is why I identified with Chad G. the best.

When did you meet all those wrestlers? I've met Hogan at a book signing. He was busy and intimidating(he's my childhood idol) but was cool just the same. Bobby Heenan and Jimmy Hart were very nice. Virgil threatened to stick his pen in my eye smile.gif

I've met Sherman Helmsley (George Jefferson) and he was very shy but very very cool. Adam West(Batman) was also awesome. However, I was really nervous when I met him and when he asked me what I do for a living, "I replied nothing."

Get the fuck out, you got to meet Adam West? I would kill to meet that guy, he is just the epitome of awesome. haha yeah any time a celebrity has asked me a question that they didn't seem to have to ask I always felt kind of weird. When I told Adam I couldn't make his solo gig because I had work that night he went into asking me what I do and what sort of things I sold etc which was cool but weird.

I met Carlito, Eugene and Trish just walking around the Crown Casino complex after a Raw event in Melbourne last year.
Carlito was standing in the lobby drinking a beer and we chatted for a bit, his accent is cool haha, he's actually not that big, without the afro I was taller than him.

Trish I met in this area past the lobby heading towards the shopping complex that is full of all these fountains and she was super sweet posing for a photo, then she saw a horse and cart pull up outside and I was telling her how they taxi people around the city so she excused herself to run off and pet the horses haha.

I felt really sorry for Eugene .. WWE has obviously told him to stay in character in public when recognised. I saw him coming up the escalators in the food court and these punk ass kids were making him count to 10. So here is this 30 year old man in neat casual dress with his hair tied back looking smart having to stick his thumb in his mouth and count to 10 in the middle of a public place.
Apparently word got out once when he was out of character and Vince came down pretty hard on him.
So when I walked past him I just stopped him calling him by his real name (nick) and let him know there were fans out there that knew that this gimmick was not good enough for him and he was better than that .. to which he seemed really appreciative of and just said thanks and was on his way.

I saw Big Show and Shelton Benjimin as well in the food court having a meal but didn't go up to them, no one wants to be annoyed when they're eating .. Show is fucking HUGE.

I have met Ed on several occasions, the first few times in the 90's he was very brief but cordial. The last time I met him was in July 2001 at this bar called Birds in LA, I approached him and said " hey man I am a huge fan, how are you doing." He asked me my name and gave me a hug believe it or not, he was tipsy. Then told me to get V in sept. Nice guy.

Anyway, name me one big name lead of a rock band that doesn't have attitude?

[rushfan]Neil Peart, Rush's phenomenal drummer and lyricist, is known to be not very fan-friendly. He hasn't done M&Gs since the 80s. Yet I read an occasional tale by a fan of a chance encounter and they always report that he was very nice. Geddy is said to be kind to fans. But Rush's friendliest band member, by far, is Alex Lifeson.[/rushfan]

As far as Ed or the other band members, I've never seen them in performance, let alone met them. But I would never expect a famous person to be thrilled to meet me, a total stranger. I have met many celebrities, and they are almost always gracious and kind, just like anybody else. But they really don't owe us their friendship. Rush has an old song about this:

LIMELIGHT

Living on a lighted stage
Approaches the unreal
For those who think and feel
In touch with some reality
Beyond the gilded cage.

Cast in this unlikely role,
Ill-equipped to act,
With insufficient tact,
One must put up barriers
To keep oneself intact.

Living in the Limelight,
The universal dream
For those who wish to seem.

Those who wish to be
Must put aside the alienation,
Get on with the fascination,
The real relation,
The underlying theme.

Living in a fisheye lens,
Caught in the camera eye.
I have no heart to lie,
I can't pretend a stranger
Is a long-awaited friend.

All the world's indeed a stage,
And we are merely players,
Performers and portrayers,
Each another's audience
Outside the gilded cage.

One case I find really strange is my own beloved Morrissey. The guy has the reputation for being "the pope of mope" and difficult to work with, likes to live in a darkend room away from the world and stuff, which is all bullshit really. He has some major attitude with music magazines, record companies, heaps of other music artists .. he can come off in interviews as rude and arrogant .. but the one thing that always is a constant with him is reports of fans after meeting him. I find it hard recalling a negative story about him. He seems to treat all of his fans with respect, which is incredible considering he doesn't do things like meet and greets so the only chances of meeting him is literally a chance meeting.
People used to find out where he lived in LA and would go to his house buzzing the gate to talk to him .. I recall one person even having photos of him putting his bin out and then they went over and talked to him (pics included, no bullshit) and he was apparently very shy but extremely polite .. if I had people hanging around outside my house waiting for me to put the bin out they would end up in the bin. He's moved house to another country because the stalking got so bad, but still not one story of him losing his cool or snubbing a fan.

He's said many times he remembers hanging around backstage at Sparks or New York Dolls concerts hoping to talk to Johnny Thunders or the like for an autograph and knows how important hero's are to people and he doesn't want to let anyone down, so it's kind of nice that remembers what it's like to be on the flip side of things.

It was actually one of his songs that came to mind the night I met Ed, whilst it doesn't tie in exactly .. it had that theme of meeting your idol and them not being exactly what you imagined (or in the songs case, a fraud) but even though I didn't think that about Ed .. it just seemed like unlike the rest of the band, Ed seemed to be on a different level. Watching him interact with everyone wasn't the same as the other guys. Pat and Adam and the Chad's talked to me as if they were no better than me. Ed seemed to have the role of "I'm the rockstar, you're the fan", whether he was playing that role or it's just the way it seems, I don't know.

For the York Fair LiVE show in 04, there were about 17 fans from here that were meeting Friday night before the show. 2 from Holland, one from Oregon smile.gif, one from Ohio, Alabama, West Virgina and the rest were PAsters. Adam heard about our meet up, chookapalooza, and put together an impromtu acoustic show at the Study Hall bar in York. After he met the fans and signed cds and various body parts....LISA, HEATHER!!!!!!! Adam was honest, true and great. He didnt have to do a show the night before the LiVE show. I was most impressed.

After the York show, I was so fortunate to hang with guys and other fans and family members of the band. It was a priviledge to be there. I was able to meet the gracey and we had a great conversation regarding Portland, his home at one time. He was nice, funny and down to earth. And seemed to be impressed with the fact that I and the other fans had traveled so far to see them. A bit later, I asked to have my picture taken with him and he was kind enough to do so.

Well, after a few drinks, I introduced myself to the ed and told him how I loved my first show. He shook my hand and said thanks. Neither conmversation with chad g and ed were long or in depth but what do you expect after a kick ass show and at a party where old friends and family were hanging out!?!?!??!!

I met Ed the 2nd time I saw Live, in 2001. I was at the front of the stage and during a couple songs I was TOTALLY convinced he was looking at me. After the show I shook his hand and he gave me a big smile and said he'd seen me during the performance and that I looked like I was having a good time. (I am pretty noticeable because I have pink hair.) Looking back, that may have been kind of creepy, since I was only 16, but whatever.

That was the only time I got to meet Ed. At the other shows I've been to I've met the other guys, and everyone, particularly Adam and Pat, have been super nice and really fun to chat with. Adam is kind of like a nicer, cuter, but slightly less talented version of his brother.

Let me just say that since I met Live, I've met alot of other bands.

And let me just say that I never felt like I was bothering any other musician in any other band like I got the feeling I 'bothered' Ed. Take that for what you will.

There are guys in other bands that actually learn your name after meeting them a few times.
And wave to you/acknowledge you from the stage 'cause they recognize you from show to show.
And will talk for like an hour in the freezing cold and not once show you they're 'bored'
AND will run up to you after a show and scoop you and your friend up in a big hug in the middle of a club.

Sorry to say, that other than Adam...none of those stories refer to a member of Live.
