My favorite albums of all time are Tool's Lateralus, and NIN's The Fragile.

Uh, those are some great choices. nod.gif rockin.gif

Like I Do wasn't released because Heaven was a hit in the Hot A/C format. Alternative radio stopped playing LIVE after the Dolphin's Cry. They had to follow-up Heaven with a single in the market that was actually playing their songs. That is why the band released "The River" and next up will be "Mystery." They are finding a new audience in a new format because alternative radio changed and shunned a band that was part of its revolution in the mid-90's.

Yeah, maybe your right. But like someone stated earlier, don't you think alternative radio stopped playing them because their style of music changed as well. It wasn' alternative anymore. At least the songs they chose as singles weren't. They had rocking songs on BOP like She, Like I do, and Sanctity of Dreams. Even though I never ever understand why they didn't release the longer and much better version of She. What's with that? But again, from what I heard on the samples it sounds pretty good. And I'm judging it as a separate piece of work, not comparing it to TC or SS.

I agree, LIVE's music has changed. However, I'd say that alternative radio has changed as well. If "Selling The Drama" or "The Dolphin's Cry" were released today, it would go to the same type of Hot A/C formats. Maybe a few alternative stations would play it, but the audience would be more Hot A/C.

Why does everybody care about McPheezepants opinions on music? Why? I still say the best album of all-time is The Distance to Here. HELLA

QUOTE(Pokey @ Mar 23 2006, 9:48 am) *

I think Live could get back into that circuit if they tried, The Dolphin's Cry isn't very alternative radio so of course it's going to get shunned, but the reason alt radio don't play Live is cos Live aren't making music fit for it, if they did then they could find their way back on there .. but, they won't .. or can't .. I dunno.

If they tried to make an alternative record just for the sake of making one, they'd be selling out. They are happy with the music they are making, its obvious from their recent concert performances, and that should be enough. LIVE was never a hard-rocking band, they were always more Hot A/C than rock in my opinion.

They'd probably fit into the aternative scene a lot easier if Ed wasn't writing all the material on his own.

You're right, The Distance to Here is more of a musical masterpiece than any other album that has ever been created. It's more creative, takes more skill to play, and is more cohesive than any other album that anyone has ever created. Ever. I've listened to all of them, and I'm telling you that this one is the best. By far. I've listened to every album that has ever been released, and The Distance to Here surpasses all of them in every musical aspect. Yes.

I think I'm just going to have to accept that they will never make another Throwing Copper.

I won't stop loving their old stuff, but the fact of the matter is, the only reason I even liked V was because I was listening to it nonstop right after 9/11 (I was in NYC at the time and my school was 4 blocks from the WTC), so it reminds me of solidarity and the quest for peace and righteousness... or something. I don't think my opinion of it would have been as favourable if I'd listened to it in different circumstances.

And why should they? There are too many bands out there who make duplicates of their successful albums - what's the point? It's like da Vinci creating the Mona Lisa, Mona Donna, and the Mona Suzie - what's the point? There is no point.

Create something new and learn from what you've done in the past. Create something new and exciting - it's boring as hell if you do the same thing over and over and over. Doesn't really quench the artistic spirit either.

The new album is a stunner - brilliant from start to finish. If it ever is released domestically then y'all will hear it. It's not Copper, it's not Distance, but it contains elements of both (plus Jewelry) and is one of their finest to date.

Do you still wear the same type of clothes that you did in 1993 or listen to the same bands?

What I meant by that was that they are not going to make another album that was AS GOOD AS Throwing Copper. Perhaps I should have added those extra words to make it completely clear that I didn't want them to just rerelease Throwing Copper with a different cover.

If you like the new "direction" Live has taken, hey, awesome! I'm glad you like it. I, however, really... don't. It is possible to be new and creative and different and not SUCK, but I don't think Live has taken that route. Just me, though.
