It's too bad that it took a need for me to chime in on this thread to finally get me to register for my favorite band's message board. shrug.gif

I read that Chris did indeed mention Live in his pre-interview, but the producers of Idol cut that part, so it appeared as if he took the credit for originality. For the record, I hate Idol but Chris caught my attention when I read on this board that Live was his favorite band. I did a little research on the dude, and for any of you who doubt his originality, check out his music at his band's website. I've actually really gotten into their music, and it gives me a little of what has been missing from Live lately.

Since I'm not following the Idol contest I can't judge that "scandal", but the band sounds not bad at all.

I think that Chris did an excellent job on the song, of course it sounded like Live's version, it's his favorite band. He must have been so excited to find out he could do that song. I'm sure he mentioned it to Barry Manilow because Barry even said he didn't know the version Chris was singing. The judges didn't give him a chance to say anything when he was up on stage. Chris didn't take credit for the song, the judges were the ones saying it. When he referenced the Red Hot Chilli Peppers song last week, it was in the pre-performance interview, not when he was on-stage. I think it is good publicity for Live because it's getting in the press that it was Live's song he sang, and did VERY WELL. Maybe someone at American Idol found out thet Ed was telling people at his concerts to boycott American Idol and that it is the downfall of American society (I know because I was at the concert in Hartford when he said it). I wonder how Ed would feel knowing that the biggest star on the show is an ED and Live fan like the rest of us, and can help the new album get better sales?

I just don't want to assume that he did not credit LIVE. American Idol edits those interviews and their is no reason to believe he didn't mention them. I do think he did a good job with the song. I just cannot believe the amount of press this is getting.

Yeah I heard about this today on Opie and Anthony on XM Satellite Radio...they actually did a whole bit on it and played the whole +Live+ version which I thought was kick ass since it is my favorite radio show. The guys on the show were saying its not Chris' fault which I didn't watch Idol but it sounds like it shouldn't be. He never claimed it to be his own only the judges did.

Opie and Anthony both said the Live version was good but they liked Chris' better because it was just a little more rocking. While the 3rd mic guy comedian Jim Norton who is a huge Johnny Cash fan really liked the Live version of the song. So the boys getting some publicity from this which of course doesn't hurt at all.

He was being lauded for his creativity, which only means that the judges had no clue about Live's version. Should Chris have stopped them from praising him to tell them that Live did it first? That would have been a great idea, seeing that he is in a singing competition and the judges are loving him. Duh.

Personally I think that Chris's version was an embarrassment. It was definitely his worst performance all season. But he's always reminded me of Ed and I personally hope that if they do a '90s rock theme, he'll perform a Live song. I would love to hear him covering Live.

YES, I watch American Idol. I KNOW, I'M A LOSER. But it's the only "reality" TV show I watch or have ever watched. So there tongue.gif

Now what would be really cool is if Chris covered Lakini's Juice. Of course Simon would probably think it was also original and crown him the winner right there.

The Associated Press picked up a story on the situation:

American Idol” chat rooms are buzzing over a controversy surrounding Chris Daughtry’s version of “I Walk the Line.”

Judges praised Daughtry for making the song his own when he sang it on the last episode. But some fans say the version was not his own, but ripped off from a version done by the band Live in 2001.

One fan posted a message saying “I just want to punch him in his bald head.”

Another message reads “This guy is a rip off. Judges are plain dumb.”

And a third message reads “Live singer Ed Kowalczyk called and said that he would like his vocal style” back.

Before I chime in I wanna say Hi! I used to be a member of this board loooong time ago, but I've been missing being in the loop about Live stuff, so I'm back innocent.gif

Anyway, I had no idea Chris was a Live fan. He's been my favorite Idol contestent, and I'm thinking it might be because he reminds me soooo much of Ed lol. When he sang I Walk the Line, I told my mother "Hey! That's Live's version!" Wish I had known earlier that he was indeed singing their version and had originally given them credit. Thanks for the inside scoop thumbsup.gif
