I just gained a little respect for Nine Inch Nails today. Apparently they REALLY dislike record labels and actively tell their listeners to steal their music rather than help the record company make money by paying for an overpriced album.

Anyhoots, the news, they have released an album that you can download online for free to show that they really mean it. It has 36 tracks with different art for every song and they let you download it in Flac, Mp3, whatever pleases you. This is really liberal for modern music and I think it shows that they aren't about the money like other bands, they just want to create art.

Here is the Wiki on it if you want more info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghosts_I-IV

Here is where you can download it if you don't use torrents:

http://ghosts.nin.com/main/order_options

I am going to get the first couple of songs and give them a listen. If I like it, I will pay for the better deal. Too bad live doesn't have the kind of Fan base to do something like this.

EDIT: I loved what I heard and bought the $5 flac version of Ghost I-IV. The quality is amazing.

I am a HUGE fan of NIN and Trent. There is no comparison between what NIN offers its fans and what FOL does. And, yes. I am a member of SOY/FOL and The Spiral. Trent is and will always follow his own lead, not marketing or record labels. Just one of the many many reasons I love and admire his work.

I like it when Trent sticks a finger to the face of these greedy record companies. thumbsup.gif

Anyway, there are a ton of other NiN stuff to download here... in case you still don't know. wink.gif

Once again, Trent is nuts... He just released another full album and he doesn't even give the option to pay now!! It is called The Slip. I have given it a listen through and while I personally HATE Trent's voice some of the songs have grown on me. The last half of the album in particular is amazing. And YES there are vocals in this album, it is just like any other music album in that sense. I suggest going to Nine Inch Nails and giving it a listen though! Even if you don't like it, you should still support this form of musical expression b/c I feel it is the future.

A fair article to read if you are interested. I LOVE Lights in the Sky.

Nuts or not...he produces the music he wants on his terms and keeps his fans and the rising costs of music. I DLed The Slip but have not had the chance to give a good listen to without disruption but what i have heard so far is great.

The benefits of being a NIN fan are amazing......access the music in which Trent enoucrages fans creativity in remixing what he has created, FREE new music, access to pre sale tix that are often hard to come by.

I  NIN!

I'll check that out as I've nothing to lose other than an hour or so of my time. I was a HUUUUGE NIN fan in the 90s, but to be honest I find most of the stuff he's done after The Fragile to be absolute pants. He hasn't progressed or stretched himself artistically and has sadly turned into a pastiche of himself for me. I think it's because I've grown up and moved on rather than any fault of the music as he quite obviously has legions of rabid fans out there. He knows his niche that's for sure.

Though having said this, I admire his stance on the corporate music business and his commitment to his fans.

With Teeth wasn't really that good. But have you listened to Year Zero? I'd say that's the second best album he's done behind The Downward Spiral. Absolute brilliance.

I still haven't listened to Ghosts or the latest one, but I heard the latest one is really really good as well.
