I do, however, unfortunately, I don't really have the studio edit of New City. Or do I? wink.gif

or Lift me up!

lol.gif but I'm wondering by all these talking of all gthose unreleased songs we dont't have: which songs are recorded in studio at all? Some songs we only know of, because they were played in concert. But does anybody know for sure Live ever recorded New City? or that Photograph was ever a studio song? No, we can only guess.

Good news I can tell you is that Lift me Up does exist in good quality version, but the band don't want to release it ....yet? 2 makers of Mallrat, a movie, wanted to use that song in another movie, but Live repeated that they want to use that in the future (in 2000 they said it could be part of a future greatest hits). But even in recent times, when Live was asked again to used that good quality version of the song, the band declined to let it go once again. Even six years after Mallrats, they were still waiting for what their reps called "the right moment" to release it as a single. How crazy is that? nervous.gif (you can read more about this story, written by Swami on his livediscography.com).

Do other bands have this many unreleased songs and covers?? If you don't count the songs on the 7 major albums there are still so many! There has to be over 30 including improvs and covers.

I think some bands have this many unreleased songs if not even more. As for what was studio recorded and what was not, I'm pretty positive that most of these songs were indeed recorded properly, especially the TDTH songs.

And Nick, yeah, we have a good thread going here without any arguing. Good thing we got rid of Existentialist and Liverocks! banana.gif

yeah most rock bands have this many unreleased songs....Pearl Jam has a ton. Their last album, there were reports that something like 35-36 songs were recorded while only 14 made the album. Of all the bands I collect for though, Live is the most mysterious spanning the length of their career. Other bands may have one or two mysterious recording sessions but overall they release songs that are KNOWN to be recorded. Red Hot Chili Peppers recorded over 10 tracks in a recording session that resulted in Fortune Faded and Save the Population being included on their greatest hits album. The remaining songs from this session remain a mystery.

I think the thing that makes Live's songs so desirable is the lack of b-sides included on singles. That's where I get the bulk of non-album songs in my collection, but the only Live song that is an actual b-side is Vine Street. I know I would rather have had one of the several songs recorded in the TDTH era than the remixes of Sun.

Many bands have unreleased songs that are part of a recording session. STP has a bunch and they're mostly slow and dull.

With Live there's really no point in buying their singles. With the exception of Vine Street and the Love My Way cover everything else is live performances of released songs or radio edits.

Sometimes when you hear unreleased songs, however, there is a reason they are unreleased ... they're just not that good.

Songs like Cheetah, Don't Wait, and Vine Street are awesome though.

Lol... I'ma leave this one alone...

I actually have the Swedish single with Vine street and Sun looped on it. It is one of the better parts of my tiny collection. I would have to say Lift Me Up and Susquehanna are comparable to TC tracks anyday and that Imagine cover should have been where I walk the Line was on Awake.

By the way, the Imagine cover released by Live is not their best recorded version of that song!

And so were We Deal in Dreams and Vine Street. I fully understand your point. But, there are two songs that appeared on the Four Songs EP that never made their way to Mental Jewelry. I was just making the point of known recordings from an album era that never made it to the actual album. Figured I would do that here as opposed to making a 25th thread on basically the same topic. guitar.gif

I would say if you are a fan, buy everything the band releases. That is MO as you can easily guess.

Except for STP's Learning to Drive...that is a great song.

Nah. I only buy stuff from my fav bands that is worth my money. Not all the stuff they decide to put out there. Pearl Jam is my favorite band and I don't have their greatest hits because I already have everything on the disc. But that was record company decision, so I don't blame the band.

You mean Rearviewmirror? You also got the remixes that are there?

well as said in bsidenation's post, i think it's a little odd to say that you should buy everything the band releases if you are a fan of the band. Unless you are a real collector, that makes things different (e.g. Swami with his livediscography). But there's a difference between collecting things and being a big fan. I consider myself as a big fan, but maybe I wouldn't have bought Awake if it didn't contain all the videos. No doubt about buying all the new studio albums of course, with new work, I always buy original.
