Guys lemme tell you they will hardly ever have an album of covers. You know, the legal issues like copyrights etc etc

they were allowed to record Johnny Cash stuff. so I don't think it's impossible to get some copyrights etc ?

Of course. IT is all the matter of money you pay to buy the right to cover. Well, at least one of the best Russian bands, who covers a lot of totally different songs, decided not to release the album of covers as it will cost a heap and also cause other troubles.

They were probably able to get the rights to do I Walk the Line because the people who did the tribute album payed for them, plus it was a tribute album, so they probably got a reduced rate. For Awake, LIVE just had to pay a smaller fee to use the recording to the Legend of Sun Records people.

Getting the rights to include a Beatles song on an album are significantly more, and given their commercial success at the moment, I can hardly see them forking over 50-100k to Yoko and Co for the rights to Helter Skelter.

Live wouldn't, but maybe Daughtry would. It would be cool if Daughtry would release the song as a single and use Ed on guest vocals. Not likely, but a cool prospect.

I've seen this one but I don't think the quality here is much better, and it's not the full song:

This was the one I was looking for, Thanks.

It really does have better audio, It's a shame it isn't complete. At least someone got the whole thing anyways. It sounds better than the best Running to Stand Still we have tongue.gif

Now a studio version of Running to Stand Still would be amazing.

I don't care who wrote it. Ed's voice is amazing when he sings that song.

*sighs*

I thought Michael Jackson owned the rights to the Beatles songs.

How are they able to sing a song in concert if they don't have the rights to it?

I actually always wondered that. Can artists cover any song they want in concert, or are their restrictions? Can anyone shed light on that?

Ok, why not. You have to right to read a book and read aloud parts of it to your friends, although the book has its ©. You can easily have a cd of a famous artist playing at a party for loads of people, although it has a ©. So why not play a song not belonging to you, if you hardly get any profit from it separately?
