Where did the lyrics like these end up going?

I have to wonder if Ed has a form of drug induced psychosis. The lyrics went from being so great for nearly a decade to all of a sudden being complete garbage. This happened to coincide with what has been described as rampant use of ecstasy and other drugs. I think he went nuts.
